Thanks so much for doing all these videos on the AC30 models! Such an amazing service--helping clarify a lot of information online. What are the design issues you typically find with the AC15C1--I recall reading somewhere you wrote that it's voiced overly bright. Any chance you'll be working on an AC15C1 video in the near future? thanks! Loving these vids.

I did one fairly recently - let me see if I have a video on that I haven't uploaded.
The AC15C is pretty much the same as the AC30C just with different transformers and two fewer EL84s. The only issue unique to that model are some heater traces routed too close to filter cap connections. I'll find that video or photos and put something up. I know it's somewhere on my facebook.com/PsionicAudio page.

Isn't a choke essentially just a doughnut of steel? How does that fail? I would expect it to just not do the job as intended.

Coil of wire, rated for X current. If an amp draws more current than that rating, bad things can happen. Dumbed down explanation but accurate enough for a reply here.

@@PsionicAudio I guess if you are counting on the choke to affect current draw etc within the circuit itself I can see that. Most of my experience with chokes is low current control stuff and they are just eliminating control noise.

This crap, right here in this picture, is why I dump on people praising the songs of the crap that Fender and Vox and Marshall and God only knows who else, are building and passing it off as amplifiers. That isn't an amplifier -- that's a computer that makes noises. SHAME on these manufacturers for "building" this nonsense. And that, from a player of 59 years, in case anyone wants to buck me ... Leo Fender and the guys who started VOX would be howling insults at you.

With respect, there is nothing digital here. The tubes are on separate boards not shown in this video (see the next one coming soon). It uses opamps for an effects loop, reverb, and tremolo, but they are very transparent (completely once I slightly modify the circuit) and completely analog.
I somewhat agree with you when it comes to digital modeling circuits, but that's not what this is.
It's a high quality thick double sided through hole plated PCB, with good quality components. Much better in fact that anything Fender makes these days, and better than most of what Marshall makes.
Every method of making an amp has strengths and weaknesses. A JMI tagboard build is only as good as the builder. Very prone to lead dress issues and fragile connections.
I work on just about everything ever made from '46 to today. Nothing is perfect. Some things are deeply flawed.
For the price, this is very good. I'm going to make it better.
But nothing in here is a "computer."
There are a LOT of amps made in the past twenty years where I do agree with you. And if I do a video on one, I'll be pointing that stuff out.

THAT’s how you do an educated answer.
