    Tigercat is *that guy* when it comes to heavy equipment. Years ago when my family was still logging, I was told we owned more Tigercat equipment than anyone in North America (early 2000s). Don't know if that was true but we had.. 50-60 pieces? We were invited to tour the factory in Brantford and were taken to dinner by the owner and CEO and their wives. The next day we were shown the sights in Toronto and taken to Niagara Falls. Great memories of that trip.
    Edit: We're from south Georgia

    Over engineered is a real problem too. Adding cost and weight.
    Not everybody needs super tough equipment. Light duty has its place.

    At 0:48 “hey look, it sounds just like a Chevy Silverado inside.” Nothing drives me crazy like plastic panels squeaking and rattling around as you drive over any surface that isn’t a pool table. 😆

    More sustainable long term too. Steel might not be the most clean thing to mine and process at first, but the tigercat can be reccylced far more efficiently then the other dozer and get a lot more life out of its material

      The Tigercat also had plastic panels if you watch the video, he just didn't show them other than in a low down view.

      In many things you get what you pay for. Even if the upfront cost of the lower quality machine is less, if you spend 2 or 3 times more on repairing that machine within a given time period you quickly will realize you ended up paying more for less

    • @tfodthogtmfof7644

      The plastic bits require molds made so up front cost is higher but per unit cost is lower. So the break even depends upon quantity made for the manufacturer. The end consumer has different math, cost of equipment divided by years of expected service life. Are you having to buy a new one every 20 years or every 5?

    • @DodgeRamCan
      @DodgeRamCan ปีที่แล้ว +19

      The main cost factor for me would be as a consumer. If I was a small operation, buy once cry once. If I was build highways and needed 20 dozers for 5 year and then they go to auction. Give me the cheapest that will get the job done

  • @thewitness9305
    @thewitness9305 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    @Edison Motors Those are limb risers (or sweeps) not ROPS, the curbed bars from the front of the hood to the cab. Mostly on forestry more than plain construction machines they keep the limbs from tearing off the intakes, exhaust, busting any windows and keeping the operator safe (think open cab machines). I realize the tigercat doesn't have the intake or exhaust like CAT and Deere exiting through the hood, so these are more for cab, operator and window protection. I'd bet money that doosan has ROPS they are just built into the cab. With that being said i wouldn't want to trust doosan's ROPS because everything else looks so flimsy. Tiger cat's stuff is neat! As a former logger, I'd like to try it to the comparable Deere and Cat stuff. Cool video man!

    Well if you're letting an uneducated "beancounter" go to the shows (because it's a paid vacation if you ONLY travel once a year) and he's selecting what to buy based on a "value proposition" that HE DOESN'T REALLY UNDERSTAND, he's gonna pick the one that looks / costs more like what he's used to ... cars. But cars have an "aesthetic" component that really doesn't need to be there except ... people. Dozers shouldn't have an "aesthetic" component. I've actually seen this in fleet management in my career (not heavy equipment, day cabs - but I'll bet it's the same).

    Honestly I hate the "clean" look of an all snap-together plastic interior. It looks flimsy, it looks cheap, and it does not look like something I want anything to do with. Exposed nuts and bolts look fine, can be made to look good, make it easier to service, and are orders of magnitude stronger than plastic clips.
