Can't believe i missed this one until now. Vickers sense of humour always cracks me up (the "what do you think is going to happen?" line as Fred heads to the washroom). A great little bit of levity before continuing with the dread.
I really like M. D. Vickers stories. Not the usual ghost/monster (Skinwalkers? Yawn...) stuff, but rather normal, everyday situations that turn bad real fast. Reminds me of Bentley Little. I also like that they are short stories rather than an hour or longer. I listen to horror stories in bed until i doze of, so i rather listen to two or three 10-minute stories than listening to a 2-hour story and falling asleep before the ending.
@Jeffrey Baker Ibanez RG Prestige RG5170B. Traded my Peavey T90 straight across for it. I liked the T90 but it was a bit neck heavy. I love this Ibanez though. Smooth.
blackwood? u think so?? 🤔🤔🤔 i didnt cop dat at all tbh, vickers is surprisingly crass in alot of his language here, moreso den blackwood would EVER b. also tha defining characteristic of blackwoods style of horror is his preoccupation wit tha power n mystery of nature/tha natural world & its pagan connotations, & im sorry, but a concrete bunker in a gulf course is NOT a element of nature lmao. its more absurdly/surrealistically horrific den blackwoof, kafkaesque in a word, & i was as such reminded more of tha short story "descending" by thomas disch, in which a dude spontaneously gits trapped on a series of eternally descending escalaters & it plays out as monstrously as u would imagine
M.D. Vickers is great! Your narrations are utterly amazing. I started listening last December, and have listened to about 330 of your recordings so far (all are excellent). I thought you had around 520 videos, then I saw there were 837!! I have some work to do!!
Great story. Nice pun with the bunker in the background image of the video. 😁 I'm pretty sure though that Vickers meant a sand bunker. 😉 Have a great weekend!
“ ..Amorphous shadows seemed to lurk in the darker recesses of the weed-choked hollow and to flit as in some blasphemous ceremonial procession past the portals of the mouldering tombs in the hillside; shadows which could not have been cast by that pallid, peering crescent moon. “ Keep up the good work fella and lass and stay safe!
Wicked golf tale! Nice 👍. Grew up playing this par five that slanted hard to the right off the tee. And if u hit it down there, you usually would be playing ping pong in the trees. Right was dead. But my dad always said, “oh, no! Right into bogey gulch!” I don’t know where he got it, but everyone thought it was funny.
I’m imagining PG Wodehouse’s “Oldest Member” cornering a young golfer and regaling him with this tale of people who really shouldn’t be allowed to play golf, the horrible end of one of them merely being “just desserts”!
Apparently it takes people with red hair considerably longer to "go gray" then everyone else. And even then it just sort of fades into a straw color. M D Vickers is so interesting. I get immersed in what feels like a very early 20th century story, and then he mentions Karaoke!
During his pondering about travelling to the future he makes a mistake. You could very well travel into the future (living is one form of that, as is sleeping or falling into a coma to later awake), he makes the assumption you would come back, but that would be travelling back in time.
Oooh, that's clever. This story follows the grand of tradition in weird fiction of a story told within a story. Often, the only purpose that the outer narrative servers is in establishing a character and demonstrating the emotional toll that the inner taken has taken on him. (...and the narrator is always a him for some reason.) That character establishment is happening here also, but there's a deeper layer. On its surface, there is no connection between the outer narrative's dialog about time travel and predestination -- but Vickers would not have included it had there been no connection, we are all thinking. The predestination conversation lays out the rules for a hidden story with events that are only implied and never portrayed.
Wish it had ended with the guy getting a drink purchased by another and a note telling him to go easy on the sauce and hole 13 did exist for one year....in 1901. 🤨
Hi Rick! Fred was fine the day after. A few Alka-seltzers and a good snooze in his favourite armchair sorted him out. He normally doesn't drink that much...just one of those nights I guess 😁👍
I reality, you can theoretically travel into the future*. You will just never get back to the past. Travels into the past are impossible. *You just have to hang out near a black hole and let the rest of the universe happen sped-up compared to you. That's how you can travel a couple thousand years into the future within a few weeks. Have fun.

How wonderful, a new M.D. Vickers. I can listen to his unique quirky tales on here again and again. Thank you for the introduction to his work, Ian.
👍👍
This writer has really impressed me! I was wondering if you could direct me to any other of his stories!?! Don’t worry if you’re busy!☮️💜☯️
@@mariameere5807 thankyou. They should all be on here if you type in M D Vickers 😁👍
@@markvickers2607thank you 🙏
This channel is brilliant. So well produced and a lilting narration.
It's like 'Room 13' by M.R. James, but with an extra dose of his much-hated golf! Great story and reading, Ian!
HorrorBabble is one of the best narrators.

Today couldn't get any better, got home with my new guitar and now a story from M. D. Vickers!
NEW GUITAR!!!! 👍🏼 ❤️
What kind of guitar?

@opalfish sparklequasar I've barely put it down except for work and sleep since I've gotten it lol.
This probably my favorite by Mr. Vickers. This definitely has an Algernon Blackwood feel to it. Well done and thank you!
It absolutely feels like Blackwood, I thought the same thing. So well written!

I have the stomach flu and listening to your voice read MD Vickers makes it not so bad. Very soothing in a horrid way 😊 thank you!
Just on time we have evening and cold rainy weather perfect for stories 😁❤🖤👋‼
Future vision does exist. Heard the intro and said, "someone gets eaten by a bunker."
Well, I'll do the drinking now and listen on my walk home from the pub.
I could just cope with a pint of Guinness 😂❤️
For whatever foolish reason, I decided to do dry January. It’s like crawling thru the desert. Hell, I’m drinking in my profile pic.
Once again you prove why you're the best.Thank you very much.
Thanks, stranger little tale, just right to unwind to...And as always thanks to everyone involved...
I like that the image is an old military bunker.
I tried playing golf when I was young. Glad I gave it up.

13 holes is a baker's dozen, of holes. ⛳
This was an outstanding old English tale today. I thoroughly liked the way it was written and narrated. Thank you. Have a splendid Sunday 💖 🌟
Brilliantly written, brilliantly narrated, thoroughly enjoyed. Thank you sir.
Traveling into the future is very easy. It's returning that is the problem.
That was a great time travel story time travel stories are my favorites
another wonderful narration, Ian. Thank you so much.
What an incredible story, and beautifully narrated

In any other era, I would legally owe you guys hundreds of dollars in entertainment by now.
I still feel like I morally do lol
this doesnt make much sense because you live in a time where you pay for literally every single little thing
A Great story and a great narration. Another end of day enjoyed! Thank you!

Great narration Ian 👏🏿 enjoyed it as usual 😍
That Guinness is some kick ass stuff.
Nice visual pun with the 'bunker'.
So...time travel "impossible" but man eating bunkers? Totally. Lol.
Anno, right? 😂
I could envision this kind of conversation between Heisenberg Shrodinger and Murray Gel_ Mann
But which one of them would be the golfer?
@@miarencrowsdaughter6434 Shrodinger because he's there but he's not there😆

Reminds me of the old German tale of the town, that at the end of the day goes away, as do you if still there.
I don't think I've heard so much drink consumed since I read the Brentford Trilogy..
Oh, Hell, yah! ✊🏼
Didn't think air con,was around the time, apparently it was. Certainly not many in Australia at that time.
Loved it! Thank you!
I take it that M.D.Vickers is a fan of M.R.James ghost stories , Number 13 for instance.
Definitely 😁👍
great story! loved every little bit
Parallel dimensions not time travel, but it was a really good story.
Excellent, as ever Xxx 🙏🏼 ❤️

predeterminism is indeed a scary concept...

Fitting that this conversation was had in a pub. A total lack of comprehension regarding determinism is about par for the course.
You time ignorent person, Warren is in a nonexistent bunker!
Kudos
You Bastards! YOU KILLED WARREN!
No time travel paradoxes in a multiverse
One of the macabre ways to go. Ihhhh...😬
In golf a "bunker" is a pit of sand where your balls can get trapped, I was wondering about the background picture for quite a while.
❤️❤️❤️❤️
Is there a sequel?
Never say never...😁👍
Such interesting ideas about time travel.
Poor Warren
Yas ya fckn dancer
I knew this one would be great, just for the fact I can't stand ⛳😵💫😵💫😵💫
I disappeared into the 13th hole once, that’s the last time I date a University of Texas girl.
I'm sure Vickers wrote it that way, but proper King's English is "myriad holes," not "myriad of holes."
I reality, you can theoretically travel into the future*. You will just never get back to the past.

Just skip the first 15 minutes they're just drinking and eating. Extremely limited ghost storytelling.
