A great recording. I've been following Saxon since 84. I love this. Levi must be one of the best MC to have graced the face of the planet.

There was a MC called Mariposa same time Levi started the fast talking style... Mariposa was Multi talented MC he could Sing Rap and fast a talk a riddim from start to finish he was in demand I remember he chatted on Saxon for short time...round about 1982...He originally chatted on Virgo Sound System from Peckham back in the day...if you're still out there somewhere Massive shout out to Mariposa.✊

Respect to Johnny Ringo the late DJ that made me want to be a DJ in the late 70's and early 80's. One of the most if not the best intelligent Dj to come out of Jamaica lyrically. RIP the man with the Golden Pistol 🇯🇲🇬🇾

Nobody in comments so far has mentioned the Third World 2nd round when Charlie Chaplin calls Papa Levi...Mama Levi. I am a Saxon fan from way back but the clash was a draw in my opinion. Everybody please try to somehow listen to Third World's 2nd round....Chaplin/ Ringo mash up the dance.

If you can find a recording of the very later stages of this dance you will here Levi reply to chaplin and chat a lyric that mash up the place.

@@glynegreaves9839 I am a Papa Levi fan from way back and have listened to him live on Saxon in my teens but I have to be objective and non biased. To date I have not heard the Saxon portion of this dance where Levi calls out Chaplin by name but he did call out Toyan. JA DJs respected Saxon DJs from way back, even people like LL Cool J/ Bobby Brown used to listen to Saxon cassettes back in the day. Lieutenant Stitche hailed up Levi in a NY dance when he was killing Downbeat in 87. I sneaked out of my parents house while still at school to listen to Saxon v Ghetto Tone where Levi clashed Lesley Lyrics which was a draw in my opinion.

This is a classic tape Phillip Levi was in his prime lyrically and there is no way Toyan Lee Van Cliff Alton irie and Charlie Chaplin could compete with him that's why Levi praised Ringo and gave him 100% respect if you listen the tape both sides its evident that Levi chats the better lyrics. Only Ringo could match Levi on that particular night. People who study this genre will know that Levi comes from the same lineage as the late great General Echo Ringo PapaSan Papa Levi Lone Ranger Peter Metro all come from that lineage also I would put the late great Jim Kelly is that stable as well. All of them had great tone of voices and melody could ride the ridim and had high grade lyrics which were clear and precise.Ringos lyrics about Ganga man dem ah money man is awesome listen it completely and he is actually telling a story and painting a picture only the best djs can do this it takes thought and a art which only the few are capable of doing. English djs were very good in the 80s and very talented,
