Welcome back to the channel! It's great to have you here again. I was worried but am now looking forward to more vids. I recently returned from an exciting 32-day journey that was inspired by your previous adventures. My spouse and I embarked on a month-long car camping expedition with our trusty Model Y, and it was quite the adventure. Our journey began in the Twin Cities and took us to some incredible destinations. We made our way up to the remote Northwest Angle, Jasper, ventured out to Victoria Island, and then headed south down Highway 101 in the USA, making a few detours to visit family. From there, we continued our journey to Los Angeles, following the iconic Route 66 east, and, once again, making stops to catch up with loved ones before heading back to the Twin Cities. Over 7000 miles. While we were well-prepared for our trip with a Tesla CCS adapter and a NEMA 14-15 extension, surprisingly, we never actually had to use them. Throughout our adventure, we predominantly stayed in state, provincial, and national parks, and RV parks, which provided us with the necessary charging infrastructure. Although we had a Yakima EXO system at our disposal, we ultimately decided not to use it for this particular journey. However, we encountered a couple of minor challenges along the way. The most significant issue was the unexpected development of a leak in my spouse's mattress, which became a bit of a nuisance during the last five nights of our trip. Unfortunately, we could not find a solution to patch it up, but we persevered and continued to enjoy the journey to the fullest. Thanks for inspiring a couple of senior citizens.
Hi Ellery - Wow! That's quite a trip! I'm jealous and wish I would have visited some of those places 😀 Glad it went mostly smooth and sounds like the Supercharger network wasn't an issue either. Sounds like an amazing trip. Speaking of the Twin Cities, I'm just leaving today from there to head south for the winter. Had a great Summer/Fall here, but that first snow last night means it's time to get out of town and onto warmer climates 🥶
22:22 LOL!! Finally got my Model Y LR after waiting for the build two months ago. I went to the same supercharger when I went to Lake Tahoe almost 2 months ago. Had an excellent experience camping after watching a bunch of your videos for guidance. Thanks Bryan! Can confirm the superchargers were all working when I went - every single stall was taken during the Labor Day weekend
Our mutual love for mountain dew brings me joy. :) I camped last weekend, actually got to use my TT-30 adapter for the first time in 2 years. lol. was awesome.
Happy Holidays! Revamping the channel a bit in 2024 so have been working on that. Will be finishing up the remaining videos I had for the year starting tomorrow 👍🏻
Yeah, it was a bummer as that was going to be the highlight of my trip, but I plan to head back at some point later in 2024 😀 I'm going to also make sure I have plenty of time so I'm not rushing and can spend a few days at least in each location. Still had a fun time, though. Appreciate you watching!
I only recommend Tesla’s as an electric vehicle only due to the vehicles being awesome themselves and the charging infrastructure is by far the best! EA and everyone else I’ve had soo many issues that I consider them not even there at this point. Only a few ChargePoint locations that actually worked and majority of them the top clips are broken preventing a charge. Defiantly a shame that I bought the Tesla CCS adapter for $250 and not get to use it once but I guess live and learn. Defiantly hard to travel in Vermont with very few superchargers in the state but eventually more will start popping up. Great video as always and Lake Tahoe looks amazing! 😊
Great video. We were getting ready to schedule a trip to Mammoth Lakes. There is a web site where you can check the status of Tioga Pass through Yosemite. The pass is scheduled to be open summer months through end of October BUT subject to close at any time due to snow or the anticipation of heavy snow. Here in October we were considering staying at Mammoth Lakes coming from the SF Bay Area. We checked and web site stated Tioga Pass was closed as the forecast was for snow. We then decided best to stay west side of Yosemite so we are staying in Oakhurst, which also has superchargers.
All great tips 👍 I didn’t realize how much snow they get and of course last winter was historic so I should have looked closer and will bookmark that Tioga website for future reference. Thank you 😊 Hope you have a blast in Yosemite!
Hi Bryan, great video. I've really enjoyed following along on this series! Bummer about Yosemite! I'm on the east coast and I must say, it seems like everything other than Tesla Supercharging stations are hit-or-miss. Even the ChargePoint and Volta Level 2 stations are unreliable. Hopefully over time it all becomes better!
Thanks! Yep, it's a mess out there outside of the Supercharger network. My guess is we'll see Tesla dominate the market for the next few years in the US until some new options pop up. I still think Apple will be a major player at some point as well not only with a car, but also charging infrastructure. Appreciate you watching 👍🏻
I have been producing content on the GM, Pilot, EVgo build out at Pilot / Flying J locations. I had never really stopped at them before this and am hearing their showers are a very clean and roomy option for road trippers who glamp. U ever shower at a Pilot / Flying J before instead of Anytime Fitness? When I go on road trips, bananas for me too are great road grub. Healthy and they come in their own continent packaging. ;-) Really looking forward to SC opening next year. We own two non-Tesla's that will both be open to them. Game changer! Thx for the vid. I enjoyed watching.
I never have, but thought about it as a backup a few times. I know it's usually around $15 for a shower, but luckily there's been an Anytime Fitness pretty close to everywhere I've been and I only pay $35/mo for it. I definitely would though in a pinch. From what I've seen large truck stop showers are usually very clean.
I charge my MY at an EA charger and literally EACH WEEK 1-2/4 available charger stations are out of order. I wish I had a supercharger close to my area in Coral Springs
Hey Bryan, nice video around Tahoe, thanks. If you go down 395 to Lee Vining on the eastern edge of Yosemite, stop in at the Mobil gas and cafe shop (skip the gas!) called Tioga Toomey's Whoa Nellie Deli and get some awesome eats. Matt Toomey has moved to Mammoth Lakes and opened his own restaurant in The Village at Mammoth. The fare at the Whoa Nellie Deli in Lee Vining will stay the same as Toomey's original offerings. Check it out!
Bryan, thanks for all the great videos. I’ve enjoyed following your travels for a while. I trust you have great plans ahead. Your posts seem to have become less frequent, I’m hoping this is by design and that all is ok.
Glad you like them, Al! Revamping the channel a bit in 2024 so have been working on that the last couple months. Will be finishing up the remaining videos I had for the year starting tomorrow 👍🏻 Thanks so much for all the support and Happy Holidays 😀
Happy holidays! Had to look at the direction of the channel and where I wanted to go with it. I've been working behind the scenes and will be finishing up a few videos as part of the last series before switching things up a bit.
Oh cool 👍🏻 Glad my videos have been helpful 😀 My tint is 30% ceramic, but for AZ I imagine you could go darker. I only did the two front windows as well as the rear windows were already factory darkened and it's usually just me on trips.
Lol! Your roadtrip food is almost exactly the same as mine. Ahhh....Reese's 😍 I still highly encourage you to do an Idaho (Boise-Stanley) trip. At this point, it would be a lot of campground charging.....but SO worth it!! If you ever want a travel buddy-hmu! I really appreciate your videos. I've learned a lot from you.
Thanks Julie! Yeah, I've got to clean up my diet a bit when I'm on the road, but it's soooo much harder. I was actually super impressed with Idaho and do plan to go back during the summer next year and am always up for a camping partner 😀 I'll keep you posted when I know what month for sure I'll be out there. Glad you're enjoying the videos!
I check the EA station near me every so often. I felt so bad. 4 stalls. 2 are just blacked out with no power to them. 1 says unavailable. The one that was working was de-rated, had a Lightning charging, and had a EQS and a Lucid waiting to charge. I felt so bad for them.
Yep, it's a mess out there unfortunately. Hopefully some new companies jump into the industry and actually care about offering good service and making money. Obviously Tesla opening their network over the next couple years will help tremendously, but still need more options.
I was at a resort in VT this Summer and noticed a Rivian charging at an L2 Tesla charger. The driver had a converter and stated that he couldn’t rely upon EA so the Tesla network helped him a lot. He lived in RI, so not too far away but not sure he could make it easily to VT with EA or others. I’ve found Chargepoint to be pretty good and have used my CCS adaptor a few times but the Tesla charging network is still unparalleled at this time in the U.S.
Yeah, ChargePoint definitely seems to be a bit better and they seem serious about offering a good experience. They currently just lack the volume of DC fast chargers, but now that they're switching to NACS, I imagine they will expand quickly in 2024 too. This is currently why I won't buy another EV besides Tesla. I hope to though later in 24 or early 25 when other manufacturers start offering the NACS versions. EA is a complete joke and cannot be relied on. I wouldn't be surprised to see Apple jump into the game in the next few years too (car + charging infrastructure.) Things should improve drastically in the next 2-3 years. We're still in the infancy of this electric vehicle revolution.
You'll have to plan another trip to Yosemite, if you haven't gone back through already. I went through the East entrance and it was breathtaking! Have you been to the 50,000th supercharger (ultra red) in Roseville, CA? Just because I'll use ay excuse for a road trip, I just did a quick 2.5 day trip down the OR and CA coast and over to the supercharger and home. One day, I'll run into you at a supercharger and say hello. Ha!
Yep, I definitely plan to go back in the late summer next year. Haven’t been to that Supercharger yet, but will for sure be doing a California trip next summer. I’ll see ya on the road at some point 😀
Yeah, I didn't show that in the video, but tried that too (on the black part underneath.) Still didn't work, unfortunately. I've used them many times successfully before, but I find that at least half the time they don't work and almost always have some sort of issue. It was acknowledging a payment as the phone would buzz and I would hear a payment acknowledgment, but regardless wouldn't work.
I have, but unfortunately it won't work weight wise with the Model Y as you only have around 70 lbs to play with once the EXO Gearlocker box is on. The Model Y has a 160 lbs weight limit for vertical weight like bike racks or cargo boxes which is less than the 350 tongue weight used for towing. Once I put any gear inside the box it can't weigh more than 70 lbs. I looked into doing that very thing for the bikes, but would need to be a different vehicle. The Cybertruck should easily be able to handle it which will be nice as you could still swing everything out of the way when you need to open the tailgate.
Well, I'm waiting till the event on the 30th to hear about range, specifically towing range. I had planned to tow a travel trailer, but if it doesn't have the 500+ mile range announced back in 2019, I'm going to cancel my order. That's really the only reason I want it as it would be the only truck EV with enough range to actually travel with a trailer. I personally think it's terribly ugly, but its announced performance specs along with its also announced 500+ miles range meant for an EV it should have around 200-250 miles of towing. The leaks so far suggest it's only going to have around 300 miles range similar to the Model Y which means like every other EV truck out there it will barely get 100 miles range towing which is not even an option if you're looking to travel long distances. If that's the case I'll just cancel. Fingers crossed though it has close to what was said back in 2019 🤞🏻Knowing Elon though, I'm not holding my breath.
Nope, although I wish I would have done partial on the front as it would help with getting bugs off. Otherwise I think it’s overpriced unless you can install it yourself. On my next vehicle I’ll just do a full graphic wrap.
Haven't been to either during the winter, but I hear both are amazing. Although I'm originally from MN, I try to spend the winter months as far away from snow as possible 😜 The occasional ski trip is always fun though.
Hi Bryan, love your videos. I have been considering stealth camping in my Subaru, but I just have a fear that it is dangerous. Have you ever run into anything sketchy while stealth camping and do you do anything to mitigate these risks?
Thanks so much! I've only had a couple times where I didn't feel comfortable in a location and my only suggestion is to listen to your intuition and move if that happens. If you have good window covers where it's not obvious anyone is inside, you shouldn't have an issue. With my Tesla I can use the camera system to easily see outside at any time which is nice cause then I can move if there's someone walking around outside, but that's only happened once or twice and I simply moved. I tend to pick nicer hotel parking lots in good areas which seems to help 👍🏻
First I want to say that I think the move to open the Tesla network to other brands is a good idea to spark the EV revolution. However , in the shorter term , until the network expands, we Tesla drivers may find our favorite reliable charging spots clogged with Bolts, Rivians, Mach-E's, and Lightnings. Grin and bear it and remember it's for the good of us all..no really , what's a little extra waiting in the grand scheme? Be thankful that Tesla saw the wisdom in building out a network for their cars that relieved range anxiety for prospective Tesla owners and became a model for the rest of them, if only they will notice and do better.
We’ll see how that all shakes out, but Elon firing the entire Supercharger team a couple months ago doesn’t help anyone except his ego. This is especially true during a time when that team was directly working with teams from all those other car companies to move to Tesla’s NACS. I personally think it was a bad idea for Tesla and its customers as it gave up the number one advantage and reason people chose a Tesla. With that said I can see how it can make the transition overall quicker for the industry, but Elon’s rash decision making combined with no standard on where to put the charging port is a recipe for disaster. We’ll see though. Appreciate the comment 👍
@@bryanhauer I was trying to be mostly positive and generous in my comment but I also agree that the firing of the Charger team is a WTF moment and bad timing as well . I also foresee some possibility for Tesla owner resentment in the future if the network doesn't expand and all the other brands begin to load up the charger slots. Reliable chargers are one of the bright spots in Tesla ownership right after great tech and definitely way out in front of customer service which rates a zero for me. Not talking after purchase , but before and during purchase.
Yep agree 👍 Hoping some adults over at Tesla can smooth things out and keep the growth of Superchargers on track. Like I said, I’m hopeful that opening things up will lead to a faster transition for the industry, but just want them to really think things through. Many times Elon backtracks on his harsh, impulsive decisions so I’m optimistic he’ll do the same here and bring most of the team back.
A sandwich for 18$? Jeeezzzzz And Electrify America is terrible. Here in Europe charging network outside network is pretty good. Not as perfect as SuCs but really good.
Hey Uwe! Yes, charging networks are much more reliable in Europe. Here in the US, all other EV manufacturers have now decided to rely on Tesla's network starting in 2024 since that's the only one that works consistently. Hope you're well, my friend 😀 I'll be back in Europe for the month of April traveling all around for 3 weeks.
Hi Bryan, I really enjoy your videos and have been watching for awhile. My daughter and I were in Yosemite in July and several roads were still closed due to excessive snowfall, but it was beautiful in the Valley. This was our first trip to Yosemite and the hiking was amazing!
That's awesome! Wow! They still had road issues in July? Yikes! Glad you got to see some of it though. I look forward to going back likely in the late summer next year to do some hiking as it's at the top of my list to visit in the states. Thanks so much for watching 😀

looks like you need a new video! Debating going to Tahoe or Big Bear this winter season
Not talking after purchase , but before and during
purchase.
Jeeezzzzz
And Electrify America is terrible.
@@bryanhauer yeah I am doing great! looks öike you do too
Hi Bryan, I really enjoy your videos and have been watching for awhile.
I am glad i bought the Tesla
