CAR FACTORY: 2015 Smart Fortwo

Highly efficient assembly and logistics processes and suppliers directly located on the plant's premises as system partners: the smart plant in Hambach, France, has stood for the success story of an innovative, particularly lean production concept since the decision was made in 1994 to build the plant. In its domain, it has set standards in the automotive industry and continues to do so. Around 1.6 million smart fortwo vehicles have rolled off the plant's production line until today. With investments of around 200 million euros for the production of the new generation of the two-seater, the plant has continued to develop the original production concept with state-of-the-art technologies and further increased production flexibility.

Although I'll probably never buy one of these, I have to say this is the best assembly line video I've ever seen. No annoying background music, just 100% original sounds from the plant.

There is another video on TH-cam of the same production line circa 2000. It is noticeable that in 2015 there are less workers and more automation.

I would buy one if it was AWD and had the 1.0 liter 3 cylinder Ford Eco Boost engine in it. That Ford engine is so impressive. 55 MPG's would most likely be achievable. I would probably hope for 6" inches more of trunk space.

+ben venis In Europe maybe where a gallon of fuel is more than a U.S. gallon. the smarts cars in the U.S. only get 35mpg. No one gets better than 40mpg when driving it like a normal car. Plus the Smart engine has no power. Ford Fiesta with its 1.0 is heavier and still has better power and fuel ecomomy from the same size engine.
