The bucket CANNOT be much bigger at all here. It depends on the material you're moving. If it's coal or something else light you could increase bucket size. If you're moving rocky material the weight of even this size bucket very large. Breaking out a larger bucket in a pile like this might be too much for even the 994. The machine is big but it's as light as it can be to save on wear and tear of the drive train and conserve fuel. It's efficient. The hydraulics and cooling system etc are optimized. Bigger buckets just for the sake of bigger might cause tipping, poor steering, excessive front tire wear, steering train wear, hydraulic heat buildup, engine stress. The engineers know exactly what they are doing here.
If the engineers know EXACTLY what they're doing, there will never be a need to improve. Lets just say they did their best under the circumstances and relative budget restrictions. A machine that large should have a greater load capacity.
No Neil the machine isn't as "light as it can be". Do you even understand the physics of how these machines work? There built heavy for a damned good reason and that weight helps gain needed traction on all 4 tires that are working to drive the bucket into the pile and help fill it. Reducing weight would be exactly the opposite of what you want. Don't try to compare fuel efficiency with how modern cars are built, light weight does nothing but make earth moving equipment far less efficient. Fuel efficiency for earth moving equipment is calculated on tons per hr moved per gallon used not how much the machine weighs and the distance it travels. Wheel spin alone while trying to load the bucket is a major operating cost when each tire is $20k-$30k+++. So lightening the machine would also increase that. If the engineer's did there job the whole drive train is more than capable of handling the machine weight plus a fully loaded bucket for multiple years. Cat has a well proven service life for each component and most well run mines swap out those components at the recommended service intervals. When a core charge for an engine is over $100k it pays to do so. The machine is designed to have a safety margin on it's balance with a fully loaded bucket. Loaders and the hydraulic rams, pumps, valves etc are built within that designed tonnage range. If you managed to completely fill a coal bucket on this machine with rock the hydraulic system would just bypass and refuse to lift it because the weight would be far outside those design limits.
I too have many hours in big loaders ,the material you're loading has a lot to do with bucket size and design a smaller spade nose bucket is for hard or heavy material while a coal bucket used for loading coal will be bigger by far if that's all it going to be used for I believe all most double the cubic yds as for a dirt or rock bucket ,coal being less dense!
I ran a 992 for calmet for several years digging 200-foot Bank.as far as loading trucks, I probably could have done it in 27 seconds...no offense. But that's not the point I know. You can't beat the production value of a big cat loader. I love em.good video.
Well it is about time.Power to weight, cycle time of a skid steer and a ride that looks like it will not shorten your back by 2"per shift. How's the stereo ? I think I like this.Time will tell us all.Well done Cat!
Hi Caterpillar, can you guys confirm if you plan to eventually offer a future large wheel loader that will be capable of loading 400-ton haul class trucks?
+rafael souza pedrosa maybe you need to learn something a bit about mining machines. Bucket looks small, but it is big. It is small in comparison to machine that is necessary to move that amount of dirt. LeTourneau have bigger buckets, and it is much bigger machine. If You will look at the draglines, the bucket compared to machine is ridiculously small, still that was biggest machines to move dirt ever created.
+jestestuman There is also a ratio, depending on what material the loader is working in you will want to adjust the bucket size. You only have so much hydraulic power and if you're moving heavy material you want a smaller bucket for maximum efficiency.
Coal buckets bigger depends on what it's loading. Like the 793 c or d can get 150 tons of coal fully loaded but with rock and dirt 240 on up in tons. Coal. is lighter and 994 comes with a 75 cubic yard bucket for light material
Lets see how they shape up to the WA 1200. They will be tested to the core in the Iron ore. That 793F should of taken 4 passes for 250 tonnes. The bucket is still too small by the looks of it.
Hey mate, they've always only used the 3516 in a 994 as a counterweight as they're heavily derated from factory running about 13psi boost instead of 26psi you would get in a 793 or 789 so putting a c175 would be a waste of money. But the 3516 in these are common rail
Hello Vinod, thank you for your interest! Your Cat dealer can help you with pricing and availability. You can find your local dealer on our website here: www.cat.com/en_US/support/dealer-locator.html? - Fab
I think the bucket it suitable enought for it size, engine power, because as we see, she can lift the bucket up to full height syncronise with the time she turn and move forward to the dumb the dirt, if you wanna ask for bigger bucket for bigger load she can carry, you need to double the engine power, double the hoist hidrolik cylinder and add more weight for balance the machine, simply add more money.... of course you can simply swap the bucket, however the dumb proses get more slow, and you lost alot of your money on fuel and wasting time to fulfill the bucket and lift the overweight dirt to dumping height even more that the ton dirt you can dump
Doesn't seem to have a lot of digging power considering it's size as this is only loose spoil, I would like to see it in an actual quarry doing some real work.
Is this new model now bigger than the big LeTourneau? The old 994 wasn't. I won't get into which is more reliable, productive, or easier to operate. No matter how big it is, a shop queen is worthless.
Regarding the service point keypad with EU icons as you said not everyone knows fuel tractor trailers utilize a spring loaded 6 sided rotating identity bracket that the driver rotates to the proper product as he is loading the tanks so he doesn't drop them into the wrong tanks at the delivery point. Now add one to each side of the keypad vertically in let's say 6 languages so the operator rotates them to his language then knows without any doubt what each button on the keypad is for. Just was thinking how to resolve the operators that don't know the EU symbols. A simple device that can be added by drilling a couple of holes alongside the keypad the mounting the brackets then installing the spring loaded rotating language keypad button indentifier. Doesn't cost a lot, no electronic mods AKA like me Old school just a simple mod to solve what can drive operators nut " what the hell does that symbol mean/do? First time I ran a modern electronic excavator those symbols cost me over a half hour as I was by myself out of cell phone range! Granted it might seem like a trivial item but I'll bet no one wants to see a machine like that sitting for even 10 minutes while the operator tries to figure it out or is being taught the rotating identity bars means he doesn't have to stand there desperately trying to remember what the guy who told him what they mean simple no power required and it works.
Georgia Duckworth He forgot to tell you that was for the fastest scoop and load. How about the other multiple scoops. If you need more than 3 scoops to fill a truck you are killing your productivity as a manager of your equipment and personal considering neither are cheap!
For Christ sake stop it, spinning tires wasting fuel and time, digging unnecessary holes in the pit is inefficient and stupid, spilling ton of product onto the pit floor every cycle making the area bumpy etc plus experts dictate the tons per dump,so no wasted cycles.

That truck was topped up, look at the front wheels.
Actually the 994 was introduced in 1990.The 793 came along in 1991.Finally Caterpillar outs out a larger wheel loader then the Komatsu WA1200-6
Its larger physically but still less capable than the first generation wa1200 and yeah it cant load ultra class
@@S70AMG well it sorta can. It's tricky and a pain in the ass but it is do able. Our 994H sometimes had to load 930s or T282Bs.

The Bucket mechanical engineering is epic design
What kind of air pressure should I run in 980m and should I grease it once a week?
No music now, just engine sound.
They would have to enlarge the bucket by 80 centimeters more ... so the capacity is better and the loader can hold the .. 988f and 994k
Another great Cat Loader how much bigger will they get ? Shame about so could music
Can I use it in my garden
Why are the exhausts just completely open to rain and snow?
Is that red thing a large key to start the loader❓😆😆😆😆
I'd like to see the bucket size difference between the 994K and the 992K.
Hi Caterpillar, can you guys confirm if you plan to eventually offer a future large wheel loader that will be capable of loading 400-ton haul class trucks?
I doubt it. Letourneau now komatsu is the only loader brand that can load up to the 400 ton class

call me crazy, but why is the bucket so small??
Caterpillar best of the best world, from indonesia
the first thing the company I work for would do is double the size of the bucket.
wouldn't it be too heavy when fully charged?
I thought the bucket was on small side ,I don't know to much to say double it but make it bigger which am sure they will have a option or too ??
It all depends on what material is being moved. Some is way heavier than others, wether it’s wet, dry, and how dense. It all depends on the job.
Is that red key on the side of the cab for winding it up?.....lol

I agree the bucket looks way too small for the sheer size of the loader itself.
