Could NOT resist(I too grew up more 60's-70's.) I had a college professor back home, who used to say "when you think you're living in the groove, you may just be stuck in a rut..." Always enjoy...cheers...rr Normandy, Fra.
Thanks for the video. I like to “bevel” my stringing so the narrower side goes into the groove which is filled with glue, and the thicker side stands proud of the groove. That way you are ensured of a “tight” fit in the groove. This is what Steve Latta endorses. You could do this with your Jig where one of the strips that sits on top of the mdf is a bit thinner and causes the plane to bevel your stringing.
Thanks, yes that is a nice idea and variation on the jig! 👍 A friend of mine, and great craftsman, Garrett Hack likes to use homemade scratch stocks that he bevels to cut a beveled groove, then also bevels the line which creates a similar wedged tight fit. It is literally splitting hairs when we get down to the differences in tolerances 😎 Thanks for the idea and watching! 👍
This video details all the information needed to create thin strips. A very educational video. It is 15 minutes of absolutely excellent information crammed into 30 minutes.🙂🙂
Thanks! Yes we record as a livestream and try to edit them back a bit later, but the nature of live-streaming is more like real life, conversational and more than “just the facts” tone of the more common info video.
Thanks for the informative video and doing the stringing with fairly simple tools. As a refinisher I see a lot of nice pieces with inlay. The multiple layered stringing interests me. Getting into box making now to let my creative side out. Can I use the table saw to cut the groove?
Just discovered this site today. I build wooden sailing ship models and have been looking for a way 1/16" strip stock using primarily hand tools. I want to use the scrap material I have on hand instead of buying the expensive strip stock online. I think you may have provided a solution for me. Just subscribed to your channel. Thank you.
Doesn't a scroll saw have a very narrow blade (from teeth to the rear of the blade) you'd need a blade which is reasonably thick, otherwise it will wander. The zero clearance jig he made, stopped the blade from twisting which might be a problem with a scroll saw. Then again you should probably give a go.
Kind of an odd request, but I have become fascinated with making my own cremation urn, for myself. Is this something your channel would be interested in highlighting? I know it’s basically a box, but I’d like to make it with precision. I’m thinking of black walnut. Thanks!
Ud be better off in a folgers coffee container.. plus this dude would take 4 hours to explain how to make one the first 3:59 hours explaining how hilary Clinton was a better choice then trump for president.
Okay, not sure what you mean by waffle or what you’re referring to…way too cryptic to hold my attention! 😎 But seriously, I’m always trying to do my best in the moment and better each time. You should also know that your comments would be more effective and better received if they were delivered with a hint of kindness and not just thinking about what you like and what meets your approval. So I do appreciate you watching all the same.
Hollllly hell i dont even know when the actual inlay strings begin here people. Wish I could give u a timestamp, but the Hilary Clinton supporter never gets to it😂😂.. I think min 17:00 is where some of it begins...
This video was recorded live, not the easiest thing to do. So not in the edited format you must be used to. Your words matter, and are more effective with a little kindness. And I have no idea what your “Hilary Clinton” comment is in reference to…
Well fair enough i was, am a little cranky today and just your demeanor and talk screams hillary/Bernie sanders /joe biden type of people. Tell me im wrong but u are full on democratic like no other..Like everything is just so full of rainbows and fairy dust. Man that would be an awesome world to live in. Apparently it exists ...
Well that just proves how wrong impressions can be…I am actually opposite in my political positions to those two. Why don’t you think someone conservative, believing in freedom and personal responsibility, can have a “joyful” demeanor? And why so judgmental toward someone you don’t really know? Personal character and “fruits of the spirit” are way more important in my book than personal politics.
Point taken 😎, and I appreciate it and you. Thank you. I will think about that and try to leave more gaps in my explanations. And thanks for watching.👍
Yes , and his comments are filled with expert tips . Knowledge taken from decades of trial and error, free to us . Presented in a casual ,thoughtful and humble manner . Maybe you could watch again and listen for those things .
This is even better the second time you watch. Glitch-free! Thanks, Kris.
Thanks for hanging in there with us Bruce! 👍

Haha, yeah, that sounds like something from those groovy days! 😎
I thoroughly enjoyed watching your instruction. I learned a lot!!
Thank you! 👍
This is one of the best videos on string inlays.

String Theory - the physics of woodworking :)
What a glorious channel. Gleefully subscribed! Best wishes from Warsaw, Poland 👋👋
Yes, and thank you! It was great to have you watching last night as well 👍😎

@@EpicWoodworking I actually took Garrett’s class on making scratch stock. I never was any good at it.
Awesome, as always. Thank you, Tom
Our pleasure Dmitri, thanks for watching! 👍😎

Our pleasure Pierre! 👍
I really enjoy the easy way you explain things so acurately, ( but really wish it was in metric measures !! ) You are an excellent 👌👌teacher !
Some things I can’t change 😎 Thank you! 👍
great video! really cool process!
Thank you! 👍
Great stuff

We appreciate you, thank you! 👍😎
Even better watching for the second time
Awesome, thanks for hanging in there through our “technical difficulties” 😎
Great info
Thanks for watching!

When did Christopher Walken start doing TH-cam videos about woodworking?
I don’t even know what to say to that except, I got a fever for more cowbell!
Way too much waffle to hold my attention!

talks far too much.
Comments far too briefly and negatively.
