I seen the Outlaws in 2000s right before Hughie Thomason passed away .Seen them in this little old theater in Covington Ky talked with band at their bus afterwards one of the best concerts ever .
Outlaws is an American Southern rock band from Tampa, Florida. Formed in 1967 by guitarists/vocalists Frank Guidry, Hughie Thomasson, Herbie Pino and Hobie O'Brien. Drummer David Dix and bassist Phil Holmberg joined the band as well. They are best known for their 1975 hit "There Goes Another Love Song" and extended guitar jam "Green Grass and High Tides" from their 1975 debut album, plus their 1980 cover of the Stan Jones classic " Riders in the Sky".
I went to the famous "Day On The Green" in Oakland, CA in 1977 which featured Peter Frampton, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Santana and Outllaws. Yes Skynyrd killed with Free Bird...but these guys were awesome too as the opener! They also killed on this song!
@@somersetcace1 I came out out of it pretty good, as I was 18 and was already fairly tan from spending a LOT of time at our pool and the beach. My 19 year old brother Steve wasn't as lucky as me...he was light skinned and spent most of his time indoors watching Star Trek! lol
Sweet! I missed that one but I did make it to Led Zeppelin's Day On The Green that year (the first of 2 shows, on Saturday). Judas Priest and Rick Derringer opened for them. Saw Santana at Berkley's Greek Theater and finally got to see Frampton play in the mid-1980s at a rock club (he was only 10 feet away!). Missed original Skynyrd but I was there at the awesome 1987 reunion with Ronnie's kid brother singing. Never got to see the Outlaws in person.
This is the style of music I grew up with in the 70s. Country rock and the Outlaws were some of the best. There'd be a pig roasting in the ground, a free beer truck with taps on the side, everyone in cut offs, guys bare chested, girls in halter tops. Old school mj fragrance in the air (we looked down on skunk weed). It was a great time. ❤ You would've been welcome. 😊
What do you get when very talented guys play lead guitar, two on a Gibson Less Paul and the main lead on a Fender Stratocaster with a Bass player and Drummer.....these guys, The Outlaws. You should see them live with all four standing side by side it's awesome.
Well now, I forgot I suggested this back when you did The Marshal Tucker Band. These guys were called "The Guitar Army" for good reasons as you now know. I saw them with the Tucker band back in the Good Ol Days. Thanks again for another great band added to you awesome Playlist.
Every player sang lead and harmony vocals except for the drummer. It's Hughie Thomasson on lead vocals here and he also takes the first (Strat) leads. Billy Jones takes the second (Les Paul) leads, Henry Paul on rhythm guitar, Frank O'Keefe is the bass player, Monte Yoho on drums. Rest In Peace Frank, Billy, and Hughie.
You should check out Hurry Sundown by the Outlaws its a great tune. This band was know as The Fla guitar army. for its 3 guitar line up . They came out before Molly Hatchet and Lynyrd Skynyrd .
i read it's about the relation between musicians and people, so it's like a diary of a day where people are assembled for the show, and he says they (musicians) are not queens and kings. So in a way he's talking to the public as he sings
The first rock concert my parents ever let me go to when I was a young teenager was The Outlaws opening for Black Sabbath on their Heaven and Hell tour. Musta been 1981 or thereabouts. My buddies and I found seats right up front center stage. Imaging that twin guitar jam extravaganza from this song tearing up the fretboards ten feet in front of you. Fire! The Outlaws kept the rock in country rock. Funny though, nobody ever yells out "Green Grass & High Tides" at a band the way they yell out "Freebird"... I suppose that might be a good thing though. Heh.
Two world class guitarists in Hughie Thomason and Billy Jones rip to both. Hughes and Billy along with Henry Paul (Blackhawk) provided ououtstanding vocal work. All their albums are terrific, but "Playin' To Win" is 2 steps ahead of all southern rock bands IMHO, yes including Skynard.
Wow! Love them. Haven't heard this in a long while. Have to dig this out of my albums. Yep, have tons of albums. Love your diverse music. You rock! Keep the comin'🙂✌️
It's crazy, but The Allman Brothers, Lynyrd Skynyrd, The Outlaws, Tedeschi Trucks Band 38 Special, and Blackfoot all came out of Florida. It must be something in the water for guitar-driven rock.
oh man. what a wonderful classic. This reminds me of going to the picnic on Saturday afternoon, then hitting the local watering hole to shoot some stick 'till we had our fill. Then church and then another 60 hour work week.
This is how great the 70s were: this band was awesome and they’re almost buried to history just because of how much incredible music was coming out at the same time. Maybe the original band to create a sound that just FEELS southern.
Skynyrd may have been more popular than the Outlaws but this song blows Freebird away in every category. The rhythm guitars, the leads, the vocals...wow. I've been listening to both these songs for decades and that's my take on it. Actually, Ian Anderson is Jethro Tull, whom I love!
Picked, Plucked and Ripped. Nice Video Man, You actually Played the song, Enjoyed it, gave a few words, thats it. Thank you, Good Night, we love you !! 💪 ✌
This thing was done in one take. When they were done they said, "print it". If it ain't broke don't fix it. This is great to play in the jukebox because it's 1. Very good. 2. Long as hell Can you believe they only had two hits? SHAME I envy you because I don't have headphones. (dueling guitars). Ian Anderson was in Jethro Tull, not Supertramp.
"Way Off"...... "Ian Anderson from Supertramp".... I smiled, knowing you know Ian is with Jethro Tull, the fella with the Flute, but I know what you meant. maybe you mean Rick Davies, keyboard master from The Tramp.
They are on the same level of incredible talents and live performances,,,, so I understand, there are a few others on that level.... Kansas, Yes, Zep.......@@JMBOYTV
I'll bet you'd like their atmospheric 1980 cover of Stan Jones' classic (Ghost) "Riders in the Sky" 🎸 You can find it here: th-cam.com/video/YmpvpypXKf0/w-d-xo.html ✌

For great guitar talent, No One could touch The Guitar Army! Long live The Outlaws!!
Masterpiece.
You know it. It’s all on tape. Just have to listen.

This song is Southern Rock's answer to Stairway.
"Stairway to Heaven" cries itself to sleep every night, wishing it was a s good as this song!
I want this song played at my funeral....
5 guitars....shredding it...❤
We used to blast this with house speakers hooked up in the car OTW to the beach when we were teenagers ❤❤❤
The Outlaws "Hurry Sundown"...Nuff Said. 🔥
Love that album. My favorite song on it is Man of the Hour.
@@hog7203 That's another great song by them.
The gypsies cried...❤
Some of the BEST guitarists EVER!!!!
Saw them with Foghat back in the 80's Yeah, I'm old. Yeah, they rocked.
Me too

I was lucky enough to see this band open for Charlie Daniels and was not disappointed! Billy Jones on the guitar is amazing!!!

I've been listening to this since I got my first stereo system in 1977. It never grows old. Check out the live album version too.
Glad you got to enjoy this one. One of the Baddest Jams in the Land!
Masterpiece ❤🎉Vintage Rock
Great guitar work Bro!!!
Love this song.
Good job.
Me and all my friends had this album and that song was about wore slick on all of them......we played the shit out of it.
9 minutes of Guitar Bliss!
Talk about a jammer, lol.Good pick.Saw them back in the70’s with Molly Hatchet and Blackfoot.Truly a great show!
Check out the live version of recent time . 70 plus years old and still got it and you can see how the guitars work together. Nice review!!
We're slowly getting you hooked on Southern Rock. Look at some of my other posts (on TH-cam) where I listed a lot of Southern Rock bands.
Some of the best music is called Southern Rock, and I love it all.
Have you heard Hogjaw? If not give them a listen
Outlaws were great in concert. Seen Stevie Ray Vaughn too about 2 years before he died
This song is responsible for many speeding tickets on the interstate back in the day!
😂
@@hunterseat Guilty!
It pretty much 3 guitarist doing solo's and singing in between. Saw them with Molly Hatchet two years ago in Cali. Still bring it
The lyrics are heavenly...
That there is what we called a "guitar army". 😎
Guitar Army❤
You got the meaning, straight on.
Outstanding! You found the Florida Guitar Army.
Dude! Im 52 and i haven't seen it all but I've seen enough. Im happy to see grass roots grow.
They were sometimes known as The Florida Guitar Army, 3 lead guitar players.
l was lucky to have seen them in concert late 70s
Love this song Fire on the mountain by Marshall tucker band is really good too . Their Story telling is Awesome !
The Florida Guitar Army
Absolutely a vision of heaven. Glad you liked a song I've loved for decades.
They got three guitars going on this one.
Well now, I forgot I suggested this back when you did The Marshal Tucker Band. These guys were called "The Guitar Army" for good reasons as you now know. I saw them with the Tucker band back in the Good Ol Days. Thanks again for another great band added to you awesome Playlist.
That was the studio version. Saw them live in Houston Texas 1976. Live version was over the top. Remember it vividly.
Another great song by the Outlaws is their live version of the classic song, "Ghost Riders in the Sky"...
You have now been introduced to "The Florida Guitar Army"
Every player sang lead and harmony vocals except for the drummer. It's Hughie Thomasson on lead vocals here and he also takes the first (Strat) leads. Billy Jones takes the second (Les Paul) leads, Henry Paul on rhythm guitar, Frank O'Keefe is the bass player, Monte Yoho on drums.

Thanks for posting this. Great memories.
Sorry listeners, but i’ve heard them all in my 66 yrs. And this here tune punches freebird out the ring❤️🤘

ROCK AND ROLL ‼️
The three guitar army. A Florida thing. The Outlaws, Molly Hatchet and Lynard Skynard.
The song is an ode to great music by others that came before.
You will get a speeding ticket if you jam to this in the car !
NEXT UP . . . . . Molly Hatchet, "Flirtin' With Disaster" . . . YOUR WELCOME !
A tribute to thise who came before! Yep.

I suggest reacting to Lynyrd Skynyrd "That Smell".
You'll be glad you did....
Edit... I just checked and see you already did.... Gonna watch it now.
Not sure why, but I've always preferred this over Freebird. The guitars are more manic.
They call this getting busy
7 minutes in the greedy f----rs at you tube just had to throw in a couple of commercials!!
