awesome! Above the clouds already. Been waiting years for that opportunity. Thank you for talking about the mechanical issues/motor outs. Nice landing. ... :D. It seemed like that first approach could have been saved by making a longer base and a slight "S" turn onto your Final. Looked, on the video, like you had lots of room to do that but you were there and the video does not give me a feel for the wind and such like you had so ... Armchair coaching from a fellow pilot. :D On the go-around I would have maintained course into the wind and over the field. After a bit of idling you're going quickly to full throttle and it's a bad, but more likely, time for the motor to die. If it dies you can go long across that road into the next field in a straight line into the wind rather than finding yourself low over trees and having to turn sharp back to the field. Something I have to remind myself after 100+ landings, LOOK AT THE HORIZON. As soon as you know you have it made, out of the seat, kill the motor, look at the horizon. It's a lot easier to judge your height that way. Looking at the ground is a great way to smack it. Once those houses are occupied you might consider making your landing pattern over the trees and the commercial building rather than the residential ones. Noise abatement!
Thank you for the advice! That approach was the most complicated I have made up until this point. Having large high power lines and a road to my right, houses to my left, I was kind of trying to thread the needle in there. That made me miscalculate my altitude. Shifting winds inland also don't help! But yes I do think a more experienced confident pilot easily could have swooped in there and made the landing
@@edcampbell8026 I plan on doing a video of my entire setup however I am running a Power2Fly frame, Moster 185 motor, 125cm Carbon E-prop and a Dudek Solo 24m wing
Where in Florida are you launching from? Just started to kite and learn the wing a little. Have formal training in the next few months but I have an itch to get up lol
I fly from all over in Florida, mostly north florida for these videos thus far but most of the state is pretty good for flying. And I understand the itch! Trust me.
you have received no formal instruction on how to fly? did you use any source to learn? lets hear some details on your learning journey. i am new and cannot afford the extortion prices these guys charge to learn plus the price for the equipment
I do not have any formal training at all on how to fly. I will however be making a video very soon on my journey to flying and self training vs formal training!!!
You are over exaggerting the cost conflating Aviator PPG with being the standard. Heck a 2 week SkySchool class in Spain with a round trip plane ticket and food / accomodation costs less than Aviators class fee alone. I am self taught with just 1 repairable prop nick at flight 40, no other damage to myself of equipment. It is very unusual to damage your equipment, I am blown away a lot of pilots say breaking equipment is just part of ppg, wrong. It comes down to you and your personality and intelligence. I know people who paid thousands for school and suck at ppg, botching launches and landings, destroying their equipment becasue they suck. Then there are self taught pilots who are very skillful ans rarely make mistakes. Here is basically what I did: - I am an mechanical engineer who questions myself always to ensure things are done correctly the first time - 60 hours of youtube content, always focused on how pilots do things, lots of pause and rewind - 22 hours logged ground handling and kiting in many conditions at multiple locations. I have gone out on lunch many times to do 2-3 forward launch kiting. - Had a buddy hand tow me about 15 ft off the ground to practice a flare - 2 taxies with motor on I am a very careful person who is professional adept level in understanding equipment, maintenance, and repair.
I love flying in the clouds, doesnt happen very often.👍
Ya the times that option is available to you are few and far between I feel
Thanks for the uploads! I look forward to seeing where the sky takes you!
You're getting a lot better at this. Keep the videos coming.
Thanks! I'll do my best!

you are exactly where I want to be in 4 months. keep video coming. how petrified was first few flights? how many flights under your belt now
No I wasn't ever scared, I had a complete adrenaline overload on my first flight. And I think I've got 6 or 7 flights at this time

Was the solo your first wing?
Yes this is my 1st wing. So far I have only flown this wing and no other but it's a great wing and it's helped me learn quite well!
