We went on the Buggy and 9 waterfalls. It was amazing.

I debated doing the buggy. I might have to try that one next time.

Reviews on the Carnival website mention jumping off the platforms. Did they give a reason why it was not allowed?

It didn't say specifically, but my guess is they think it could potentially be a liability issue. I asked our guide and he said anything booked through the ship only allowed sliding.

do you recommend this excursion for a person that can't swim?

You are required to wear a life jacket and there were always staff members nearby. We did have a person in our group who was terrified of water and he did fine.
You do go underwater each time you slide or jump, so I would make sure they are ok with that, but the lifejacket pretty much pulls you back up to the surface and in many of the places you can actually touch the bottom and stand.

Do you need to be a good swimmer to do this excursion?

You do go underwater each time you slide or jump, so I would make sure you are ok with that, but the lifejacket, which everyone is required to wear, pretty much pulls you back up to the surface. Many of the places you can actually touch the bottom and stand, it is just easier to wade through the water.
They always had staff members at the top and bottom of each slide or jump to help you if needed.
