I lived across the street from the orange bowl as a kid back in the late 1950's . Me & cousins would sneak in the high school games and always go Thanksgiving Night to watch Miami High vs Edison. I was at the Gables vs Miami High 1965 football game with my good friend Richard Mahshie ( we were 16 years old at that time ) along with 40,000 people !! Great Memories Now It's Gone Very Sad
Some iconic games were played there I miss that stadium. I was in high school in 85 and I am a big Dolphins fan I told everybody that the Bears were going to lose big on Monday Night. The 81 playoff game was another classic, The John Lennon Game on Monday Night.
i remember my parents being barely able to pay rent nor provide food earning $3 an hour but everytime there was an event at the orange bowl we would rent out our parking spots and we use to go eat thanks to those fans i used to love home game for different reasons.
This definitely brings a tear to my eye. Some of the greatest college and pro football games I ever watched were played here. But the memories will live forever.
That stadium had a glorious history and amazing memories contained within its facade. From the Dolphins to the Canes to numerous Super Bowls to a myriad of Orange Bowls, every time I came to Miami, I always made sure to swing by this stadium and spend some time admiring it and reflecting upon one of the great jewels this country has ever had.
It's a shame that the OB and Yankee Stadium are both torn down. I was fortunate enough to see a game (and a good one and Don Criqui was announcing also) at the Orange Bowl Miami vs. Penn State. At least it had some of the greatest games ever DOLPHINS/CHARGERS 81 , 84 ORANGE BOWL, FSU/UM Rivalry, Superbowl 3,5,10. The terps come back and fluties pass in 84. I wish they could rebuild it, too little too late R.I.P. OB
I agree, it deserved better I could have preferred the pace remodeled into a shopping mall or an IMAX theater at least. Oh, Pyrowolf19 down there YOU ARE RIGHT about the first part of your comment, but it was the most amazing place history wise despite it been due to shut down. It deserved better, at least the site should have gone to something better than the Marlins Mall Ballpark.
Don't blame the City. Blame the UM BOT for not renewing the lease and making financial concessions. UM is an underground river of money. The BOT didn't give a shit about the stadium. And the funny thing is now the UM athletics department logo (the "[]__[]" symbol from the early 80s) is used for all of UM's educational and medical activities. Shameful.

im not even a canes fan but i have to say, tearing that stadium down was a real dumbass thing to do. I'd never been to that stadium before and always heard it was a real shithole when it was demolished. But they shouldve rebuilt it or remodeled it somehow. theres a lot of history to that land and if the city were smart, theyd rebuild the place back. if i were to ever visit miami, that wouldve been one of my 1st destinations to see. what a damn shame.

They did rebuild it, but they turned it into a state of the art ballpark called, marlin park.
OU spent a lot of time in the stadium, not so good results though, Florida teams damn tuff.!
