Shark Vacuum Hose Repair - Part 2 of 3

  • UPDATE: You should not need to lift the tab as I show, just push in the button while pulling the floor nozzle out. One of my viewers pointed this out to me. It was designed to come off so you can use the vacuum as a Canister Vac - I never used it that way, so it did not spring to my mind at the time... Duh!
In retrospect, these 3 videos are more like lessons learned as I made the repair in haste using scrap hose from and old vacuum I had laying around. I think I should make one more video that combines all three in one with all the lessons learned to make it even more simpler. Leave a comment if you would like that. But I do not want to delete these 3 videos because they are my most popular - never expected that [laugh].
This video is a follow-on from my first overall video. Here I provide step-by-step instructions on how to remove the Floor Nozzle Assembly in preparation for the hose replacement. In that next video I replaced the hose without removing the Floor Nozzle Assembly. I added this video on the suggestion from a viewer to make the hose replacement easier.

    Paul..
there is a button to realease the lower unit so you dont need a screwdriver. It is designed to become a canister vacuum.
Getting ready to attempt the lower duct repair. Fingers crossed.

Zax Picks, Thanks, I do mention the release button in this video, but for some reason it would not release until I held the button in and then at the same time lifted the tab. I will put a note in the description that most people should be able to just push the button and then pull the floor nozzle out. I never read the instructions on this vacuum and they are somewhere in my huge box of instructions that I have for everything I own. I never expected my Shark videos to be popular but in fact they are indeed my most popular. When my wife got mad because the vac lost suction (the hose broke) I had no time to find the instructions and not knowing how the hose was attached, I tore it apart from the screws on the bottom and worked my way to the swivel knuckle (which I removed as well before I knew how to do it right). Maybe I should make a new video that handles this repair from soup to nuts will all the lessons learned. Thanks for watching and the feedback, Paul

Watch all 3 videos as it was a learning process - like in video 1 I had forgotten the whole nozzle comes off the main unit [embarrassed smile].

@@paulromsky9527 Hi! So… speaking of embarrassed smiles… I’m afraid I messed it up by removing some of the screws without making a map… I’m also allergic to dust (asthma) and am frustrated and tired of fidgeting with this. I can’t find anyone to help me with this and I would seriously be willing to send you some money to tell me exactly how to do this over a Skype call… but it’s a weird request, so no worries if not. I may give up!

Great video. It has taken me days to break down my Shark Rotator. Going back to it, trying hard and being more willing to break it. I'm glad you showed everything you did and your explanation in part 1 was perfect. Seeing you was hella weird though, because we are dopplegangers right down to the small style choices. Suspenders for life.

Sorry for the late reply, these comments are showing up on my Channel and not all are showing up in the video comments so I may have responded before. How did your repair tune out?

I just now learned how to pull off the lower unit without unplugging the three wire plug, I did not splice it, I pried the three prong plug up slightly and it unplugged, what a pain in the butt job for a ten dollar hose, a good lesson on buying from china !!!!

Yes, China is hit or miss these days, some things get better, but some are getting worse. Did you see all 3 of my videos on this? It was a learning curve for me. In one of the video descriptions and main comment, there is info on the hose replacement sources. I recently saw a Shark and they improved access to the hose and beefed it up a bit more... so I many now buy another Shark. But don't buy an Electrolux... they suck as much as they blow [laugh].

where can I see the video where you actually show us how you take the screws off and replace the hose?

Appreciate the vid, The exact thing with the hose happened on mine (which is the same vacuum). I saw the crack and thought piece of cake I'll just put some duct tape around it. 1 HOUR LATER I still didnt have that damn thing apart. How hard is it to unscrew a plastic vacuum....I was so mad I almost threw the damn thing out. I ran into a couple weird screws that must of needed some special tool to remove but I jimmy rigged those and got them out. I still dont have it apart. I'm gonna try this one more time now that I watched this vid. I am not gonna spend another hour again. Its trash day and I will throw that thing in the dumpster so fast before I let it frustrate me like it did. I'm female but not an idiot, I love this vacuume but I gotta take care of my mental health here...lol. Anyway, thanks again.

Hi S Bonner! I feel your frustration. It was a learn as you go for me too! That is why I have 3 videos to update what I have learned (on my own and from other viewers) as I went. IF you like, call me at (603) 732-3973 US eastern time and leave a message and we we can set-up a time so I can advise over the phone as you do it. Don't sell yourself short on being a female [smile], some of the best engineers I know are ladies! I bet it was a man [grin] - and I am one too - who decided that the whole bottom assembly gets replaced instead of a $5 hose. They knew how to do this, they could have had a video as well, nope they want to sell you a whole bottom nozzle assembly every few years. My next vac will be a Dyson (I think).

That's funny about the power cord. I've done that several times.

I am sitting there swearing, trying to get the stupid wand out... what the F***, like Austin Powers in the first movie: "Why... won't... this... come... off..." [laugh]

It was a learning process, I had to fix it quick and forgot that the nozzle can separate so you can use the nozzle on the trigger wand piece.
