    You of course realize we could not see the orientation of the rekeying tool in its slot. Also, will this work on a lock not yet installed in the door?

    I just switched my existing powerbolt and the keyed knob to a Powerbolt2.0 electronic lock, and a keyed lever within minutes after reading the instructions, programmed it to our needs, and WITHIN THE BLINK OF AN EYE the locks were also re-keyed, no need to get new keys cut! I LOVE Weiser locks, everything is so easy....though, I strongly recommend to read the instructions, or watch the WEISER instructional videos BEFORE you start the whole process, including installing and programming. It's a breeze then. The old locks were then re-keyed to the 'new' keys that came with the Powerbolt2.0, and the whole old set with 2 brand new keys is ready to sell.

      Interesting. I just tried my old keys in the new locks and they did not fit. And yes of course they were both Weiser. Perhaps 45 years is too long to expect compatibility.

    not completed, you did not say that after rekeying, the old key still works or not?

      It should be obvious that after rekeying, the old key would not work

  • @scottjiang4105
    @scottjiang4105 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    That's a helpful video guide. I guess you could use your old keys back if you want by rekeying again from the current new keys. Do I understand right?

  • @psnitkin4059

    Maybe this is a stupid question, but what if you don't have a new key? Do you go to a key cutter and ask them to cut a random sequenced key as your new key?

    • @timtim2500
      @timtim2500 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      not stupid at all, I was wondering the same... I have only 1 old key, that I do NOT want to use... and the original weiser key (that I want to replace).

    • @jore4371
      @jore4371 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      New set of keys comes with the tool

    • @wkozlowski
      @wkozlowski 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not a stupid question. You can buy a SmartKey re-keying kit, which contains new keys, from most hardware stores.

    • @cathym4708
      @cathym4708 ปีที่แล้ว

      This is the obvious question: where do you get the new key from.

  • @naks21974
    @naks21974 7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    So how many keys can it be re keyed at once or is it one time only

    • @clarelewis2628
      @clarelewis2628 ปีที่แล้ว

      Unlimited. But you would just re-keyonce & then get copies of that new key made for multiple users.
      But later if you needed to "change the lock" then it can be rekeyed again as many times as needed

  • @forbsy2116

    I have 3 additional smart keys that I want to give to my family. Will each rekeying make the previous no good??

    • @ChrisMak1
      @ChrisMak1 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      If the keys are each cut differently, then only the last one you've programmed it to will work.

    Where do I buy that tool?

    • @kimghanson
      @kimghanson 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It comes with the lock. If your lock does not have the little hole for the keying tool the process will not work. If you somehow lost the tool, you may have to buy the rekey kit. It has the tool and 6 keys. This is perfect for landlords so they can rekey for cheap instead of buying new locks or hiring a locksmith.

    can a locksmith re-key a non-smartKeyWeiser lock _without_ a key? My mother lost her key and has just been using the keypad to gain entry. This particular Weiser lock is about 20yrs old. Or would the locksmith just replace the lock...

    • @pineappleroad
      @pineappleroad 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It would be possible to do so, for a non smartkey lock, to rekey it, the lock would have to be disassembled regardless of if you had the key
      And i think it would actually be easier and quicker to disassemble it without using the key (upon request i will explain why, but be warned, unless you are familiar with the insides of locks then it will sound alien to you)
      Although I suppose it would depend on the locksmith as to if they would replace it, or rekey it

    He does it different than the directions: on directions it’s current key 90 degrees to clockwise. Use tool in little hole, pull key out, put new kw1 in, turn counter clockwise 180 degrees then 90 degrees clockwise. Pull out key, done……. If you brick it, making no keys work, any half asses lock smith should be able to reset it for you. Even Home Depot can.

    You can't use any key you want, it has to be a Weiser key.

    What kind of garbage system is this? Mine totally stopped turning. Doing this did nothing. Snapped the key trying to do this. One year, maybe 30 uses and the lock is totally useless. Next time avoid chinese import locks and buy a proper brand that doesn't "forget" how to work.

    • @pineappleroad

      Thankfully these self rekeying locks don’t exist where i live (although there again most doors where i live aren’t compatible with deadbolts)
