Great presentation! My first computer was a CoCo 1 in 1980, growing up in the Des Moines area. When I first heard about OS-9 in Rainbow magazine or maybe Micro-80, I was astounded that it was from a company based in Des Moines. I considered trying to get a job with them in about 1991, but I didn’t see anything open at the time I looked. But if I landed something there I probably would have overlapped Boisy’s time! My family’s CoCo was originally base model BASIC and just 4K, but was expanded to 16K and Extended Color BASIC within the first two years. We soon changed to a C64, but I was shocked how primitive the BASIC seemed compared to the extended CoCo’s. OS-9 seemed cool but I didn’t have a good use case for it. I was just happy to learn to program and play a few games loaded from tape.
I remember seeing so many posts on "bitnet" and "netnorth" with "Boisy"... and "Kuntz"... my god man this is a tiny universe this.... "hello, anyone out there, I'm lonely"
I've not previously been much of a CoCo fan... but, wow, that's possibly the most complex history of any of the 8 bit home computers.
