Destiny. Please get it right. Kanye not only said that slavery is a choice, but he also said that slavery WAS a choice, and he blamed black slaves for remaining enslaved for 300 yrs. YOU DO NOT GET IT!!!
16:00 People don’t just “run to extremist groups”. Just because that is how you behave in society, does not mean that is how everyone behaves. In fact, some people, like Kanye, adopt morals and beliefs BEFORE joining a group. Not vice versa, like Collectivists who join groups due to fear, and adopt the group’s mentality Second.
@@cjojay slavery didn’t last 400 years. The mental slavery has… “The legal institution of human chattel slavery, comprising the enslavement primarily of Africans and African Americans, was prevalent in the United States of America from its founding in 1776 until 1865, predominantly in the South.” 1776 =\= 1865 So what 400 years was Kanye referring to?
I agree with destiny, he kinda perfectly summed it up that to understand Kanye you have to go swimming through his mind. Everything he says is like 4 word associations away from something a regular person would understand.
Me: “Man I need to disconnect from political TH-cam, it’s not good for my mental health.” Also me: “New Kanye drama just dropped? Let’s GOOOOOOOO!!!!!!”

We just going to ignore the fact that Destiny (a girl’s name) didn’t acknowledge that Ye (formerly known as Kanye Omari West) released six more albums after MBDTF?
He is though. He’s legit insane. He claimed a fake child was living in his house, planted there to make him mad. His marriage broke down because he stopped taking his meds, his ex said so. He seems to think if he owns the company or 'creates' the product it's too visionary and brilliant by definition to cause people to be slaves to it. Man has totally bought into the 'great man' theory. He's not actually criticising capitalism, he just thinks he should be the one in charge of it all because he can make good music...As long as it's his trainers people are buying then capitalism and poverty wages are all good because naturally his trainers change lives.
@Ricky Smith calling those who can’t afford his clothes who still buy in order just to wear “Yeezy” braindead, and I’m writing this currently wearing Yeezys I bought in a braindead decision. But maybe you’re right and braindead is too harsh 😂 here’s my rephrase: Kanye has the habitual, fiscally irresponsible, phony-fashion-fanatic demographic on lock, in regards to some of his more questionable contributions to the fashion industry.
No Destiny. Critically engaging with with the "400 yrs of slavery is a choice" statement; that was just historically inaccurate and ignorant of all the slave rebellions that ended in bloodbaths. He switched between both literal chattel slavery and then to the mental slavery. He switched topics to save his statement about chattel slavery.

You are giving him too much credit and over complicating the mental state of black communities. The primary reason black communities are screwed is bc they have poor schools, poor infrastructure, and limited job opportunities. People from these communities can't even comprehend what an IRA is and you think they're mind melting themselves into complete incompetence. What a sad view of black people.

How can Kayne be so concerned about Black influences being used as a commodity but then go on Tucker Carlson's show? Tucker will commodify his influence more than any company ever would and Tucker could potentially peddle it for much more nefarious or dangerous purposes. There are sparks of good ideas from Kanye but he's heading in a direction that could be much more destructive to society than anything the Liberals are doing. He's interesting, I'll give him that. What's more dangerous and destructive than changing reality itself which seems to be the road these new age liberals are going down with identity politics and gender ideologies, basically trying to destructive life as we know amd manipulate everyone to certain agendas and if that doesn't work use fear tactics such as losing their income and being ostracized....you make Tucker sound like the boogy man while also downplaying what the left are doing.
It’s the same way Libertarians will make a lot of salient critiques of government but then provide the most dipshitted solution. Kanye will accurately identify issues but scapegoat a group/person, or create an outlandish solution.

Destiny is wrong about the slavery being a choice thing. Kanye was suggesting that with all those slaves they should have been able to take down the slave owner. Plus the black dude in the room challenged him on believing slavery is a choice, and he defend his statement.
nah destiny is right, I feel like yall are actually redacted if you can't understand what kanye meant, especially when he said mentally right after the clip lil bro
The problem with y’all is y’all are scared to challenge anything Destiny says. I’m a huge Destiny fan, I watch everything he puts out because I think he’s very intelligent. But unlike you guys I have the ability to think for myself as well. The black dude in the room challenges him on why he believes slavery was a choice and instead of saying “I mean slavery mentality” he defends it. This isn’t saying “Destiny is wrong” it’s saying “Destiny interpretation of what Kanye said was wrong.” Huge difference. And it was. I watch the entire clip and when he says “you were enslaved for 400 years and there’s all of y’all” he’s suggesting they should have done something about being enslaved. Then he moves on to being enslaved mentally today.
You’re a clown. He spoke his mind then and he speaks his mind now. If you don’t understand that the Democrats of today are just as bad as the neocons of the 90s and 00s I don’t know what to tell you.
Here goes white supremacy Destiny trying to make sense of calling slavery a choice. And if you listen to the full context, what Kanye was saying is that the victims of slavery were basically chump for not just killing themselves. It’s a position Candace has said before, and that’s who Kanye got it from. And no, it’s not justifiable. That’s like finding out someone was raped at gunpoint and saying it was their choice because they didn’t just fight to the death instead of submitting.
No, it is perfectly justifiable. Your POV is what I would say of other people, that I don't know anything about and I want to be nice to. But If it was my group of people in that situation you bet I would think of your POV as literal poison against us becoming free. Accepting the situation simply means you get genocided and exterminated, I would simply not accept that "hey, you can't blame them because you're not supposed to judge them!" You bet your ass if it is happening to me and my people I will judge the fuck out of them to get them to wake up and fight back so we can survive, your POV seems insane to me in this context, like, you're saying you should accept it?
Kanye has come under fire recently for saying Jews have a large influence on banking. Outraged by these comments, the Jewish community responded quickly and removed his bank account.
if you did you research you would find out that he wanted his account closed way before this. "Kanye stated that he is moving his money from jp morgan to the bank of America." Because jp morgan never called him when he deposited 140M , this was around 15/9 and if we're looking at the days normally you would give atleast 30 days notice if your going to close your account which it basically has been. 15/9 - 13/10
Yep, the installment of that I feel Kanye and Destiny are washing over heavily. People don’t just choose slavery, even if they outnumber the slave owners. Slaves came to this country where there was a legal system making sure they couldn’t be free. Slaves outnumbered the owners, but the owners had weapons, law and societal enforcement. Slaves are shown what happens to those who try and escape, ie torture, and with that fear others don’t and teach theirs to no escape either. Most slaves didn’t get tortured, BUT they know that it can happen to them at any given moment if they step out of line. Its doesn’t help that even if you escape the color of your skin is a clear indicator that you belong to someone. It’s not choice, it’s fear.
@@dumdude1083 yup totally was. This is propaganda to make seem like we enjoyed ourselves while we we're enslaved. All those crazy reports of slave owners r@p3 mothers and wife's. Nah not true
Yes. So you know how big corps bring in speakers to shift the employees mindsets and hopefully be more efficient? Look up “the willie lynch letter and the making of a slave”. There’s a whole process to making the physically enslaved unaware of there place in the world, genuinely. You do things such as create house slave positions, treat certain slaves better, fornicate with the slaves wives all in order to turn the slaves against each other instead of the white man. Imagine how easily you could persuade someone with no education and access to a grand total of 0 books to be mad at another slave for having to set up a dinner table instead of picking cotton. Gotta remember it was like 300 to 1 slaves to whites, they had to create drama to distract the slaves from the fact they were actually mad at the owners
Wtf do you mean "uncensored" in the video title? I hope you guys know that fox news literally removed parts of this interview, I haven't seen an uncensored version yet.
There were actually two kingdoms. One Israel and One Judah. I think like 3 or 4 of the tribes were in the kingdom of Judah. But all of the tribes come from the patriarchs as the son of Israel. Basically you’re right Kanye is no we’re near correct.
Regarding the mental slavery thing. Kanye is suggesting there was no excuse to allow slavery for 400 years which IS controversial as it downplays the conditions that allowed slavery to happen. Sure you can argue the fear is a form of mental slavery but its not like people are mad because kanye is suggesting fear was the primary factor in keeping slavery but for suggesting first that actual slaves were cowards for not rising up sooner, but also for downplaying the factors in place that made that fear very real and present during slavery. Maybe im injecting my own qualms but I felt that was the root of the backlash he recieved then.
pretty much. Destiny was being beyond charitable. Kanye DID call it a choice and basically said that black folks have carried the mentality to present times.
Kayne was also talking about being slaves to brands, and actual slavery is partly a choice. You could always rise up and end the slavers. People rarely do that. Weve seen plenty of genocides where people mindlessly murder and enslave thier neighbors.
@@crushinnihilism theres a valid argument to be had there but to equate the false idea that all liberals are status quo sheep to cowardly slaves that wouldnt rise up despite out numbering slave owners is a bizzare and basically indefensible stance to have let alone to promote
@Xavier E have you ever realized that you were engaging in a particular behavior and have been for a long? We all do that. Ever wonder why? Ita usually like "I have no idea I just did." Why do the poorest blacks in America spend all their money on nike and gucci? No idea. Its just a thing they happen to do. Slavery is just that. Its just the happening. Slaves couldn't been not slaves. Its just a thing they did. No reason. There were more slaves than slave masters. They could've risen up and been free, but they didnt. At some point your mind because a slave to current conditions. You go about your life not questioning it. If after that you're still hearing slaves elected to be slaves then you're way to far gone
People should read Frederick Douglass Narrative of a Slave to understand his perspective on mental enslavement that he had to break free from and how him standing up to the slave breaker was one of the things that set him on the path to escaping.
It's nice to see Destiny engage in thinking about Kanye's perspective as he's saying some of the crazy and unacceptable things he does, especially in the mindset of someone who's notoriously misunderstood. Pretty much can't help but agree with Destiny's logic in that Kanye was clip chimped on a ton of occasions and while he says wildly unacceptable stuff, he isn't coming from a place of malice like many would take an easy out in assuming. Everyone is acting in their own rationale, assuming people mean the worse is an easy way of closing out possibilities of understanding. By God who wouldn't want to crack such a public case as Kanye's mind lol
Fair points but while I agree the headlines of the mental slavery thing made it seem like Ye's intention was to tell everyone how dumb slaves were to be oppressed, it doesn't change it was the implication he made even within context. The part thats unfair to Ye is that he was there to promote the idea that mental slavery now is dumb and self inflicted, but it doesn't change the outrage he'd receive for the statement that slavery was a choice.
Genuine question. I may just have like a barrier in my mind missing, but do y’all really limit your speech to what you consider “acceptable?” I couldn’t imagine the stress of limiting what I want to communicate just because I’m worried about what someone else deems acceptable. Not trying to instigate whatsoever, but I personally find establishing a set of personal morals shifts the perspective of communication from, “idk should I say this? What will happen? Ect” to running every single thing that happens to me through a filter essentially to break down and fully understand how to respond/ proceed. Idk I may just be ultra autist but it’s actually super effective. You literally can’t be a hypocrite or backtrack because you use the same moral rationale to arrive at every conclusion
And as holes are poked in your beliefs, which they will, just adjust. So much easier to me to play a mental video game when talking than to worry about what to say lol
Nobody on this planet whats to be the bad guy unless youre an actual physchopath without emotions. The problem tho is that people love to just call someone pure evil or a phsycho just because they dont want to look at other peoples perspectives and atleast understand where theyre coming from
Destiny, Ye said people chose to be slaves and emphasized“400 years!“ Going on to say that if you are a slave that long do you want it to be. He literally meant what he said. They wanted to be slaves because they gave up and were strong was his implication. I’ve never disagreed with Destiny so much on a take.
@@animeruinedmylife9833 Then don't use a super loaded word when you can easily create a distinction between what you mean and actual slavery (which implies ownership, not just control or influence like what he's talking about)
I feel like destiny is trying to give Kanye too much credit on the slavery is a choice thing in regards to actual slaves. Sure you can say they were mentally imprisoned but, that likely was not their CHOICE which is the key word Kanye uses. If it was their choice they wouldn't have tried to flee. It wasn't a well thought out point on Kanye's end and if omitted actual slaves it would have been a fine statement when he extrapolated.
the wording is bad but its pretty obvious what he meant, which is destiny's entire point. It's not giving too much credit at all, just not being a bad faith hater
Well, metaphorically speaking if you're mentally giving up, it is your choice to just let it happen. The ones who tried to escape fought back, but the majority just accepted the status quo. That's why he's correct, go read about slave rebellions in history, and compare that to how many situations of slave owners just letting them go so you can get a better understanding of why slavery is such a hot topic only in America compared to the rest of the world.
@@bovineavenger734 This is such a weird way to view why people didn't fight back. As if slaves that did try to run weren't tortured or murdered. As if they weren't living in a system designed to make successfully escaping a near impossibility for most and rebellion a near impossibility because of how divided and controlled they were. Not running to their likely death instead doesn't mean they accepted any status quo. There were people who did what they could. And when they were freed and Jim crow laws were in place and they had any semblance of a chance at fighting back they did. There's just no way to accuse people of accepting a status quo in a system that used such force and control to maintain that status quo.
*Destiny is wrong about the "Slavery Was A Choice" comment Kanye made.* _He was talking about slavery._ 1. He said 400 years. Referring to the number of slaves outnumbering slave masters. 3. It has now been revealed that TMZ even edited out his 'I love Hitler' comment (google it).
Destiny deadass misunderstanding Kanye. "300 years that sounds like a choice", the obvious implication is that black folks were out there choosing to be slaves and they could have just decided not to be slaves anymore...
Guys it’s so easy to see what Kanye is saying when he said slavery is a choice 10 seconds later omg i hate having to translate what Kanye might mean about this statement but here’s the most charitable way I can come up with on the spot that makes him seem way more nuanced than the idea that Kanye literally thinks the slaves could’ve just ran off and stopped it. Which they fuckin did, and they revolted and they advocated for this thing called abolition which was being fought for by former slaves and freed black men lmao.
I'm going to disagree with the slavery is a choice take. I'm sorry, the rest of what he said in that interview doesn't even come close to contextualizing your broader (more nuanced and understandable) interpretation. If only we could all say things publically and have all our previous statements clarify what we really meant. That doesn't work for average Joe and it doesn't work for a celebrity. You say something that controversial, context better clearly follow the in next sentence. Instead we should expect people to go searching for it and if they don't society is misunderstanding you? Nah. The onus is on you to frame your hot takes better.
he also says, verbatim, "400 years? that sounds like a choice to me" Destiny is either being extremely [redacted] or lying when he says that is in reference to mental slavery to capitalism or whatever. that is clearly in reference to American chattel slavery, otherwise the addition of "400 years" makes no sense.
Could this be because like 90 percent of Americans are white? Even if you have every black perosn in america listening to your music, it'll become a small percentage if the entirety of the population is listening to you.
nah it is true, his fame from all those white people came from when he started dating kim kardashian, this dude moved way different when he dropped his that college dropout album, i remember i was in highscool, this dude was glorified to a crazy level, people calling him jesus. Nowadays with everyone idolizing anyone whose good at videogames, whatever, and then a few years later, they lose there mind or there SA allegations, are these people still ur god now ? that type of mentality you have to be careful with its dangerous. These kids ruined his mind lol. Straight up. Hes just a rapper. I'm only about halfway through this but I've always thought Kanye was an extreme contrarian. Not discounting other opinions about him though, but always came across that he was doing things or saying things just to be different.
I think that most people got the message of what kanye meant by "slavery was a choice", no he is not saying people chose to be slaves and were happy about it, but he is saying that they were slaves for so long that they did not even attempt to be free of it which goes against the amount of people working towards that in a system that oppressed that. i dont think he meant it all in a mental aspect because he compared being a slave is the same as being a slave to desire. It implies that he is the only one helping the black community while he's very out of touch and doesnt help them up the ladder. Kanye breaks my heart everyday, i dont want to see how his life will play out with this trajectory. i hope he gets help.
I do feel sympathetic for Kanye. I can't and won't excuse any bad thing he's ever said or done, but he's just clearly not well. He ostracizes himself from his social circles so at this point he'll just go where anyone will let him ramble and being on this show is a great example of that.

@@jamesbarker3517 Yeah, this "approved narrative" BS is some seriously insane persecutory delusion. You might be two steps away from believing in gangstalking if you think he is making sense.
He didn’t say blacks chose to be slaves, but he did say that black people’s minds are enslaved and because of that they chose slavery for 400 years. To me, it’s the same. It implies a choice while ignoring the actual circumstances. He’s trying to say black people could have freed themselves sooner if they “freed their mind” sooner, which is an equally stupid take.
To say that slavery was a choice just because there was a mental component to it is crazy. Even if most slaves weren’t ever whipped (which might be true), there was always the constant fear of violence and/or death. When little Timmy tries to escape and gets dragged back, whipped, starved and then hung up for days for everyone to see it sends a very strong message. Even if it doesn’t happen in front of your eyes, mama will tell you “boy stop playing, you know what happened to Timmy”. To say that someone is making a choice to stay enslaved when things like that are in the back of your mind is crazy because even though there is a choice to be made, the wrong move can get you turned into a pack. And the average person has never had to make a decision that risky in their life. The mental aspect of of slavery was the most stifling part. It’s like the Dave Chapelle joke about Elizabeth Smart, of course the little girl could’ve ran away but the fear of getting caught is stifling.
It's not literal, taking such a phrase literally is crazy. He's right though, you can't be kidnapped for 50 years, at a point it is your choice to remain in that state.
@baZed that’s not true. Here was his follow up explanation: "[T]o make myself clear. Of course I know that slaves did not get shackled and put on a boat by free will. My point is for us to have stayed in that position even though the numbers were on our side means that we were mentally enslaved." So he was saying that slaves who were put in shackles made the choice to remain slaves by not fighting back

Yeah I didn't just watch the clip. I remember watching the full discussion between Kanye and Van. I think destiny is being way too charitable to kanye's slavery comment. Kanye sometimes has nuance in what he speaks.. crazy people nuance, it's not calculated. He might've been touching on the mentality of being a slave n all that, but he absolutely meant what he said at face value for his slavery comment. Wish destiny could disect that whole conversation so I can understand if I'm missing something he saw that makes my take on this incorrect.
You aren't missing anything. Oftentimes when Destiny feels SUPER strongly about an abstract interpretation (only slightly abstract here tho, granted), he literally wont consider the fact that the person speaking has no history of being *so* nuanced at all. ...I don't mean to sound like I'm shitting on Destiny. We watch him because he's intelligent, and oftentimes breaks down things in a way other people seem to be unable to. But sometimes I think one's drive to make sure they consider EVERY angle sometimes leads to unwarranted charity being given to the things people say.
When a black man cant have an opinion about slavery when it happened to HIS people and HIS ancestors because it upsets some white people on the internet. Interesting...
20:45 Kanye didn’t catch the fact that everyone in the black community was doing to him what slave owners were doing to slaves… wanting to “beat sense” into him for not thinking in alignment!!
isnt there something to be said about how Kanye says we are slaves to capitalism but his entire career is capitalizing off said slavery? could be irrelevant but i feel like it makes kanyes ideas less agreeable
Can someone fill me in on what Kanye "means" by 400 years of slavery being a choice? Because Destiny only explained wage slavery, which is obviously not what he's talking about, and mental enslavement is also slavery, not a choice. Accepting your lot is not choosing slavery. Also "most slaves weren't whipped" where the hell does that come from? The were brought to the US chained to one another in each others shit and if they were born into it, they were worked from the second they could.
They were in chains before the ships. Blacks sold enslaved blacks, and still did faaar after the West ended slavery, the first society to do so, of course, being the most moral people on Earth. Most slaves were not whipped, as cruel punishment was against the law, and you'd lose your slaves. Slaves were allowed to have possessions, only worked partial parts of the year, obviously planting/harvesting seasons (albeit long hours), were paid (low, of course), could buy their freedom, and buy slaves themselves, of which many did.

Kanye not liking Jews after years of being in the entertainment and fashion industry is not surprising. Listen tk Rap music and you'll see black artists in general don't really like Jews that much. Especially the ones that have been done dirty by bad contracts.
What Kanye and Jason Whitlock are talking about -- the tendency of some black communities to ostracize fellow members who don't express their "blackness" in a way that acceptable...that's very common thing. Some of those members who were teased for acting too "white", grow up rebuking "black culture". This is why it's easy for Jason Whitlock, Candace Owens, and Kanye West to arrive at the political position that they're in. When it comes to Kanye, what made him so alluring when blew up in 2000-2004, was that he was an extremely talented artist that didn't subscribe to the kayfabe of being some kind of gangster or street dude. Back then, if you didn't present yourself as some kind of hardened street guy, you weren't going to get put on. Kanye West broke that paradigm. And despite living in that world and rubbing shoulders with the some of the most successful black people in the music industry, he was never "black" enough to get the full cosign. We'll do business with you, but we won't kick it with you. I think that has taken its toll -- "The child who is not embraced by the village will burn it down to feel its warmth." Their go to, is to be overly critical of "black culture", because most of the trauma and rejection that they've felt, comes from the hands of black people. There's a movement of "divestors" that's gaining traction among black women, which is really sad; but anyway...what they're essentially doing, is looking for a place to belong. They're still trapped in their adolescence, and that yearning for acceptance has led them to curry favor with non-blacks. Who are all too happy to hear you confirm their biases. What's interesting is that they ignore that this happens in non-black communities as well.
Hey I agree with you that what you said is a real phenomenon in the black community but Candace Owens is a pure grifter...she literally teamed up with the NAACP when she was in highschool to sue her school over racist harassment she was receiving ...now she wants to act like rasicm doesn't exist....
I think the issue with him saying slavery was choice is that he ignored all the black people who successfully escaped slavery, he also in that statement spits on the people who revolted against there masters and were killed. So if it was a choice it was more of a choice for survival
Wayyy too charitable on the slavery comment. He said “it’s all of ya’ll” clearly meaning he thought they didn’t take enough action to change that circumstance - implying it’s a choice at some point. He did eventually get to the mental part but that’s not how that started.
Passive resignation is one term. Also, for those who are interested, look into "conditioned hopelessness". This is a psychological term for a person who has learned not to fight back or try because of a history of indiscriminate punishment (i.e., "mental slavery" in the sense of passive resignation).
So Kanye is super religious? Crazy to hear his thoughts, I wonder how he came upon his conclusions. I like that Destiny can engage with his rhetoric with a sense of understanding rather than just berating him for "wrong think". It's really important to understand Why someone believes what they believe rather than just decrying the belief as insane.
Kanye isn't super-religious, he's "spiritual". He doesn't understand Christianity as a faith, but he gets to reference biblical stories and offer religious platitudes without walking the walk. That's how he's lived his life. It wasn't until recently that he started to identify himself like this. I honestly think a lot of this unhinged stuff stems from him actually being a poor communicator, when he's talking about deeper topics. His bipolar episodes just make it worse.

I legit thought that was the single most important thing he said in the entire interview personally. Soon as he said it was all I needed to hear to think he's normal, just REALLY in his own lane with how he sees things. & the lefties don't know how to respond to it other than saying he's crazy. Honestly the thing that's crazy is that more people don't see the bigger point with that statement. In coining the term "people of color", the left has essentially decided that 1 blanket term would be deemed acceptable for ALL non whites. Doing this alone strips a person of their identity. Under this logic an identity is purely decided on the surface level by the color of everyones skin. That's why the left keeps pushing the whole "people need to see more people that look like them" bullshit with everything. There's a huge group of people that would benefit from some of the things he brings attention to. The 'media' enjoys making a famous black man look crazy, and if pushed enough, anyone would have a breakdown like this.
I'M ALL FOR BEING MORE UNDERSTANDING OF WHAT KANYE IS TRYING TO SAY AND LOOKING BEYOND THE MEDIA NARRATIVE TO THE MORE NUANCED REALITY, BUT HONESTLY THE MAN IS CLEARLY NOT LIVING IN THAT REALITY EITHER. HE HAS SERIOUS DELUSIONS ABOUT HIS OWN ABILITIES AND THE EXTENT OF HIS UNDERSTANDING OF THE WORLD AND REFUSES TO LISTEN TO THOSE WHO TRY TO MAKE HIM SEE REASON.
Completely disagree with Destiny's take on Kanye's "that sounds like a choice" clip. He says "400 years of slavery? That sounds like a choice". He's talking about the time when people were literally, physically forced into being slaves. He didn't say "black people are still mentally slaved", or "black people have self inflicted their own mental slavery even after they were freed", he said " If you were enslaved for 400 years, it's because you didn't try hard enough to free yourself". I've watched the clip like 10 times and still don't understand how Destiny expects people to take it in any other way.
I feel like it is necessary to state the obvious, humans do not have lifespans that last 400 years. He was referring to a group of people known as African-American. He wasn’t talking about an individual’s choice to be enslaved for 400 years, rather a race of people. Another obvious point, slavery known as antebellum slavery (American slavery up to the civil war) was abolished in 1863. However it took almost another 100 years for the civil rights of African Americans to be recognized and protected against separate but equal practices in the US. Civil rights moment showed the importance of African Americans uniting against systemic racism. Kanye West admires his father who is a former Black Panther, and he was separated from his father by his liberal and educated mother. This much was covered in the video. Well, his mother died when he was probably in late his teenage years… RIP So something that Destiny did really well is that he takes these contexts and bridges it with Kanye’s experiences and infers what he is trying to say. Destiny explained Kanye’s way of communicating and assisted by giving us context. For example, Destiny said that Kanye has issues with capitalism and gives context via the sway and Gaga moments. Im sure Destiny sympathizes with Kanye’s attempt become less of artist and more of an activist. Since Destiny also went from being in music school to doing political commentary online despite being discriminated by ‘leftist’ institutions like Twitch who hypocritically claim they support diversity/free speech. Kanye is trying to explain that he strongly believes white leftist support for black lives is phony if not hypocritical and a means to perpetuate capitalism. He is trying to say African American people aren’t being respected by politicians and by American society appropriately. (Self-insertion, Joe Biden once said, if you [black person] don’t vote for me, then you aren’t even black. This supports Kanye’s point.) In a sense, Kanye views America and Capitalism as a caste system that is not working in support of black people because ownership and capital belong to dominantly white orgwniza. He is trying to express his disappointment in African-American people who ignorantly under-sell their political power and wealth to dominantly white establishments. Im pretty sure what means to say that modern AA who say they are victims yet don’t attempt to escape that situation have themselves to blame for it. I put an effort to use the term AA often instead of black, because people of color or African descent may have not gone through slavery directly. To Kanye’s point, black people can be a little sensitive about that point since colonization and enslavement are different. There were some Africans like Marcus Garvey who came from colonized countries and protested that AA should move to Africa and become independent from America. Well that plan was sort of a failure, since AA didn’t do that but it sparked pan-African sentiment among black communities. Irony is: anytime AA talk about racism existing today, they are gaslight by right wing groups and used for ratings by left wing groups, then, despite the reality of racism, they are called crazy and blamed for instigating the problem. Comedians and AA like Dave Chappelle are being canceled by leftists for talking about how leftists treat race issues vs sexuality issues. Again, Destiny’s take on Kanye is very fair and accurate. People aren’t being fair to Kanye at all because do not any research about the things he talks about or his condition. Most people simply react to clips given to them by third parties without asking why that piece was chosen. To Destiny’s credit Kanye speaks in metaphors, anecdotes, rhymes, and movie quotes which can be a bit distracting. Kanye meant slavery as in conforming to a system that takes away one’s agency. Kanye believes that like in Plato’s “allegory of the cave”, those that see the truth should go back and help those who have remained in the cave, only to be finally rejected by them.
@@kennypham3856 Why? If I like his art then why would I protest him being mentally unwell? Kanye fans have followed him through a lot they aren't going to stop now, we already know he says crazy shit that's not why we like him.
yeah, i'm pretty much done with kanye now. doesn't bother me too much because i wasn't a big fan of anything past yeezus (except kids see ghosts). his first 5 albums will still be the greatest streak in music history.
The issue with talking about being mentally enslaved for 400 years and that slavery was a choice is that puts the responsibility on the enslaved when most slaves were indoctrinated from birth. You really need to understand the psychological aspect of what’s being said to realize how ridiculous it is. If you tie an elephant to a rope and a stake when it’s young, after trying to move about freely the elephant will give up trying because the stake doesn’t budge. Then when the elephant gets older it’s already been conditioned to believe that whenever it’s tied up trying to move about freely is futile. So you get this four ton creature who gets led about by some 150 lb man when he could easily rag doll him but it doesn’t. Also no one person lived the entire 400 years so it’s disingenuous to say that for 400 years we chose slavery. It’s also negates that those who did buck the system were used as examples in the most horrible ways to keep others from getting out of line. You can’t directly reference 400 years of slavery as a choice and then get mad when ppl took what you were saying literally. I say whether he meant it literally or figuratively he’s still incorrect
400 years of slavery comment was NOT EXPRESSED ABOUT mental slavery, he was talking about actual slavery, or else the addition of adding the 400 years to the comment would make no sense. He immediately discussed mental slavery afterwards but brushing it off and saying it’s obvious doesn’t dispute that fact, just because he made the song New Slaves and talked about mental slavery in the past; defending and arguing that particular line and saying “delivery” is the issue is MAD MY BOY. Now if he said slaves choose to be slaves, then I’m on your side, that vague enough to work and no one would brazenly talk about slavery like that usually but if he’s saying during the 400 year period when slavery exist, that was a choice, you lost me. I honestly don’t think it’s as big of a deal but I don’t accept the rationale for what he said
Yeah, you’re wrong about slavery being a choice argument. He was obviously talking about actual slaves in the American South. He made the argument if you haven’t fought back in the 4 centuries, you wanted it. No group (Jews, Sparta, Muslim, North/South America, etc) would ever say, nor would their oppressors say, it was a choice. That the point of slavery.

I'm sorry Destiny, luv ya brotha, I'm a big fan, but I respectfully disagree.. you're wrong on this one.. that wasn't the only time he said slavery was a choice either.. He's so obviously just spouting talking points and ranting and has no substance to anything he's sayin. Idk how people fall for the "he's a deep thinker" thing lol
na, destiny was on point for this one. It's easy for NPCs to misunderstand kanye bc they probably found him through some tabloid headline, but if you have watched him through the years this is just how he is, and it's very reasonable to interpret what he said in the way that destiny interpreted it. You say you don't care either way but you're obviously pretty tight about it, its pretty easy to understand kanye when you're not deliberately trying to misconstrue everything he says.
@@deshawnmartins8206 It's perfectly reasonable for someone who's listen to All of Kanye's comments to think that they were wildly incorrect and believe that he was speaking about the physical entity of slavery as well as the mental. Exactly, the context couldn’t be clearer in the way you stated. No idea how anyone right of mind can misinterpret it.

You bet your ass if it is happening to me and my people I will judge the fuck out of them to get them to wake up and fight back so we can survive, your POV seems insane to me in this context, like, you're saying you should accept it?

The technical psychological term I think you’re referring to around 24:00 is “Learned Helplessness”
Is this even true tho? Weren't there plenty of slave revolts?

Kanye like many with his beliefs just parrots talking points, slavery being a choice is one of them.

Well said.

Not running to their likely death instead doesn't mean they accepted any status quo.
There were people who did what they could. And when they were freed and Jim crow laws were in place and they had any semblance of a chance at fighting back they did.

I think that has taken its toll -- "The child who is not embraced by the village will burn it down to feel its warmth."
Their go to, is to be overly critical of "black culture", because most of the trauma and rejection that they've felt, comes from the hands of black people.

I think the issue with him saying slavery was choice is that he ignored all the black people who successfully escaped slavery, he also in that statement spits on the people who revolted against there masters and were killed. So if it was a choice it was more of a choice for survival
If anything those people would be evidence of his point.

Wayyy too charitable on the slavery comment. He said “it’s all of ya’ll” clearly meaning he thought they didn’t take enough action to change that circumstance - implying it’s a choice at some point. He did eventually get to the mental part but that’s not how that started.
Was the holocaust a choice? Did Native Americans have a choice? We can go on and on..
Kanye isn't super-religious, he's "spiritual". He doesn't understand Christianity as a faith, but he gets to reference biblical stories and offer religious platitudes without walking the walk. Honestly the thing that's crazy is that more people don't see the bigger point with that statement.
In coining the term "people of color", the left has essentially decided that 1 blanket term would be deemed acceptable for ALL non whites. Doing this alone strips a person of their identity.
Well, his mother died when he was probably in late his teenage years… RIP
So something that Destiny did really well is that he takes these contexts and bridges it with Kanye’s experiences and infers what he is trying to say.

I honestly don’t think it’s as big of a deal but I don’t accept the rationale for what he said
destiny no lol. as a black man he fully thought that you should have been able to not be enslaved for 400 years.

It's easy for NPCs to misunderstand kanye bc they probably found him through some tabloid headline, but if you have watched him through the years this is just how he is, and it's very reasonable to interpret what he said in the way that destiny interpreted it.
