Great Video, theres nothing like a good vice (bench mounted) to deal with rusted joints also soaking then in oil and and or penetrant, thanks for sharing
Excellent video. I got fed up carrying milk and I just went and purchased an auto calf feeder this year. Just top it up with powder and monitor the calves on the phone. Easy 👍
@@FarmTheoryNI Very happy. My shed is terrible and I really need a new calf shed like the one in the Grasstec video last week. Only issue I have is some calves refuse to suck from the teat of the feeder so they have to stay and be fed manually. I think this is to do with the teats I use when as babies, are different to the machine teat so I need to use the same teats so no difference which I will be doing this week. A part from that, it’s a life changer.
Great video. We got rid of our starlings by keeping a few cockerals about the yard. It works. The starlings think there a bird of prey and wont come near.
You should gap sheet the roof in your calf you will surprised how the airflow improves I was in a similar situation you feel the air moving and when you get to end of march and April the rising hot air can get away 11:2511:25
A fuel transfer pump is not a good idea. It can crush the fats in whole milk and cause calf scour. Better getting a proper milk pump and meter( rotech..).
Unfortunately as of this year starlings were removed from the general shooting licence here in Northern Ireland meaning that the dam things are now protected.
I thought your idea of auto empty drinkers was unnecessary until I was watching this video all finished up back in bed and remember the cows had dunged in one of there drinkers and i forgot to empty it.... I got one of them milk carts from fane valley and the more expensive one was because it had the mixer in it for powder milk I don’t think it’s anything to do with the tap I could be wrong though
Drinkers have been a very useful project so far. I am struggling to adjust sensitivity but getting there! One drained this morning at 7am, not sure why, cows weren't drinking from it but the drinker looked clean.
Great video. Keep up the good work.
Thanks, will do!
Best and most informative ag channel. Maith an fear 💪

Brilliant video Andrew, being from a mechanical background technology has its pit falls. Work in maintenance in the Ulster Hospital. I see all sides.

Happy with it? Even in a new calf house I think I would pipe milk to the calves and batch feed them over automatic feeder. Not sure.

U should invest in a calving gate. Not cheap but great job

Good idea! Only issue is the tin doesn't last any length of time before it rusts.
how are you doing on the Johnes front?
Buy a fuel transfer pump for around 100 euro and use it on the cart, no lifting buckets, you can have a flowmeter on the nozzle.
I actually have one here, that is a very good idea!

Loved it, I would not have been able to film myself getting thre brush out of the tap as my language 🤬🤬🤬 would have been extra ripe 😉😂😂😂.
Great video, how come you don’t use PLCs for your control and monitoring systems?
To expensive and too restrictive to what I want to do. Building the entire system provides great flexibility.
Do all your calves drink milk as opposed to suck on feeders? What's your thoughts on teat vs drinking? Calves look great!
All on milk. Never used teats so cant compare!
He gets a new milk cart, first thing he does with it is drill a big hole in it, what a genius idea 😂😂😂
Well said and a man of his means you'd thing he'd have one🤑
You'd thing a large hole old tank for cleaning my be first option 🤔
It had other design issues, it was a bad design from the start.
Oh I know, it turned out well in the end. Do you ever feed powdered milk replacer to calves??@@FarmTheoryNI

I just cant understand that. I call them rats of the sky
Good stuff
Where do you get an accurate flow meter?
eBay, the cheap ones from china are accurate enough for this job.
I can help with the starlings
Do you mind me asking, what are the disco lights for in the calf house?
He said in the video that they scared the birds away but only lasted a week till they came back.
Birds! It worked so well then they slowly came back, might buy more disco lights.
Thought if you wired the cow shed it would be perfect
A good workbench vice could make your plumbing a bit less painful. A flow meter and a length of hose might cut out the buckets,
not to seem like a smart a-- ,could you just adjust the flow of milk into the bucket by opening the value less.,halfway or three quarters.
thats what I now do, your seen my first attempts!

Where did u get the kart I need one
Industrial water systems or something. Give them a Google
A man of your technical ability is lost / wasted farming,
#delegate 👍
I have a big staff bill. 😅 It's a balance because I actually do really enjoy farming.
Put some guinea fowl in the calf house, the starlings will feck off with themselves
Use a vice to clamp your work.
I expected it to be much easier!
👌
Could you do more tractor riding videos? Like tearing up soil, top speed etc? 💪🏼🚜
The entire spring and summer will be tractors!
