  • Hello Everyone,
For this week's video I am checking on the Formic Pro colony to see if there have been any negative effects from using the treatment.
Last week when I posted the original video I had quite a lot of people telling me about all of their problems which made me quite anxious truth be known. I love to experiment with my bees and find new techniques which work better than my old processes but I don't like to harm my bees through curiosity.
Let's see how things worked out.
I hope you enjoy this video. If you do, then please think about liking and subscribing to see more in the future.
Hope you're all safe and well
    Greg

Yes I was looking for a queen today. Probably my fault for not adding enough supers early enough. Brood and a half colony but only one super on above the queen excluder now just about jam packed with honey - so my fault - not enough space.
However, the bees are not so bad so I removed several frames with charged cups into a nuc box - now sitting three miles away.
But could I find the queen? - NO! - so I plan to go back in a day or two and try again. What I will also do on my next visit is remove the honey and remove super of brood. If I find the queen I will remove her too.

When treating with Formic Pro, the queen runs around trying to evade the fumes which prevents her from laying. She will run for days. You mention Formic penetrates the cells. With single pad application is doesn't penetrate hence the reason for 2 treatments for 20 days to treat during the emergence of the capped cells exposing the mites. Some research has shown single application was about 50% effective. Double pad ranges from 70-90% effective. You also shouldn't be opening the colony mid treatment as now you allowed the fumes to escape and reduce the effectiveness.
