I bought the 40mm Luminor Quaranta black PAM01273, and absolutely love it. Beautifully proportioned case, 100mm water resistance. This watch can be worn literally by anyone and in any occasion. A brilliantly designed Panerai which also is a genuine “strap monster” with its 22mm lug with and 11.8mm case thickness. I would recommend it to anyone who wants a Panerai presence and experience but is concerned with the size and the width of the 44 and 47mm models. And yes, you can dive with it😀, at least I do.
I’ve been wearing a Panerai since 2003 my first a 162 Chronograph, and purchased my latest as 20 year Panerai anniversary a PAM 1314 You love or loath them but I think the brand has history and really does make a statement. I’m hooked. My daily is a Victorinox INOX mechanical another chunky fella.
I do own a Panerai Luminor Marina that I find prettY cool. At first I didn’t like it. I thought it looked like a watch for old people who couldn’t see well. Then it grew on me and I bought one. I don’t wear it so often but I do appreciate it when I do so. I definitely think that one should be in any watch collection
Rolex also provided the case design as well as the movements to Panerai; the Panerai Radomir case is essentially a vintage Rolex Oyster case rotated on its side, and that was what was supplied to the Italian frogmen. They owe a lot more than just the movement to Rolex.
Rolex didn’t make the movement, it was supplied to them by another maker, I don’t think Rolex even made that oyster case (I’m 99% sure it was produced by Aegler). Rolex is getting way too much credit here considering they were more of an assembler, much like today’s microbrands in a sense.
@@JaxWatchesandEDC And I quote: “Rolex *provided* the movement. The Rolex-Aegler relationship has been closely intertwined the moment Rolex moved HQs to Geneva - Herman Aegler was even made a board member, and Aegler was renamed Rolex SA in the 30’s even as it was still owned by Aegler. This is no more earth shattering than Omega using ETA movements, except that Rolex had more exclusivity with Aegler before fully incorporating it. Even given your correct assertion that the Radiomir movement was sourced, not bespoke built by Rolex, Panerai came to Rolex with little more than “I need a dive-capable watch for the Italian Navy” and Rolex obliged; it’s still the house that Rolex built, no matter how you slice it, and that’s not a bad thing, just a statement of fact.
They are like a Maserati in that they are exotic end of high style but they can't compete in some areas against the competition just as a Maserati is just not as good of a car as a Porsche but it's a lot more fun and sexier to own a Maserati if you can take the hit of devaluation and the fact that it may have or certainly will have more issues. I absolutely love these watches and I am into watches for unique character which Panerai offers in spades.❤
Well said. As someone who currently owns two Maseratis and two Luminors and a Radiomir, I couldn't agree more. Panerai isn't for everyone, but for those of us who love them, they are hard to beat.
So I have this exact watch! The blue Quaranta. Have worn it since it’s realesse last year and I’ll be honest, it’s amazing! Proportionally brilliant, Great strap, ok WR, looks great on the wrist!
I have been so many times in a situation of almost bying a panerai but I never pulled the triger. Basically because I believe that a watch that costs 7500 euros (luminor quaranta) has to be reliable and hyper accurate. But panerai does not have cosc or metas certification for any watch and nobody in youtube talks about the movement's performance. Everybody talks about the looks. I hope sometime someone will make a video about that too. Keep doing these videos, they are very interesting
It’s actually better than COSC - I own a Luminor and after a year it’s accurate to 2 seconds a day. Like JLC and many other makers, their own standard is as good or better than COSC
@@charlierauh8011 Hi, I finally bought the LUMINOR QUARANTA two weeks ago. It runs at +20 sec/day. That's a bad performance, the measurements that they gave me for the movement's performance were in average around +10sec/day. I am disappointed.
I got 2022 Panerai Luminor and it's gorgeous, it's outstanding , big and chunky yet sleek too , I have a big wrist so it's suits me and I get comments about it as it looks so different. Awesome watch
The Quaranta is 40mm. That’s not large, really. I think an automatic movement is not true to the roots of Panerai. Manually wound movement, sandwich dial, crown guard, domed sapphire crystal - that’s what it needs.
Thank you for this great and excellent review about Panerai… I love Panerai and own few of them, it became one of my favorite watch brand, the reason/ very rare I see anyone wearing a Panerai compared to other brands Rolex etc… Panerai have its own special look. And this Panerai Pam1313 is a very sharp looking watch. Thank you Hunter as always I love your broadcast.
Is that the narrative now… a man have to be “jacked” or a big guy to pull off wearing a Panerai? I have a few ranging from 44 to 47 and I pull it off very nicely for a slender man! I say wear whatever you want - there’s no rules in wearing a watch! 🤷🏾♂️
Well, a blue Panerai with a sunburst dial is never going to be the "iconic Panerai" as both the colour and the dial effect are relatively recent additions. You could argue over this all day, but one quintessential model is the PAM 00111, which is black, no-nonsense, without sunburst and just a subdial for the seconds - nothing else. The 00112 (Base) could also make the shortlist.
Hi Chris, Would you be able to do a review of Luminor Due Luna PAM01179? Seemed that not many people are talking about this beautiful piece or maybe I could not find.
I'm afraid you are incorrect both about the first watch in space and the first watch worn by James Bond. Yuri Gagarin wore a Sturmanskie into space. The first watch worn by Bond (in the famous 'My name is Bond. James Bond." scene was a Gruen. He wore the Sub later in the film.
You can pull it off. The cushion case wears well in your wrist. It’s just psychological that you think it’s too big. It’s fine and it looks good on you.
I don’t think you got it Wright!👌🏻 The radomir and luminor Are the best panerais I am just not a fan of the submersible I also think they like many Swiss brands are to expensive and not worth the money !but they have to pay for all the perception and BS in there adds You could always buy anonimo the real panerais 😱😜
I have a Panerai Marina Luminor from 2012. It has a common 7750 Cal. Nothing Special. One is paying the case. Rather pricey. Which actually is a copy from their original supplier: Rolex. In terms of horlogery Panerai's contribuition is ZERO. Now I can live with the hype prices, but what I can't stand is Panerai calling ETA's movements "in-house" and hiding them in cases until one opens them and confronts himself with a cheap lie. Of course I want ever buy any Panerai whatsoever. I've done it in 2012 and that's it. I still wear it from time to time, but it's not at all one my favorites from my thirtish almost forty collection.
The best Panerai to get is a 112. No second hand, no GMT hand, no date, no rotating bezel, no power reserve indicator, no nonsense. Clean sandwich dial, manual wind and a display case back,. Best bang for the buck.
The original movement was not a Rolex it was a 618 Cortebert which Rolex used (case was made by Rolex) .The watch used by Italian Divers and German Kamph swimmers was the 3646 model .This is what I call the pinnacle in Panerai range ( the first Divers watch ),Panerai of Firenze only assembled watches for the military with parts shipped from Rolex .This Swiss company that owns the name makes watches to gouge the public out of their money .The contract to the Italian divers today was won by Squale, Panerai not having a contract since the one with the Egyptian Navy many years ago .Buying a Panerai today from a Swiss watch fashion house with no connection what so ever to the history to the original company is badge engineering at best .Better watches in my opinion are Ennebi ,Anonimo at least the people who work in these two companies were part of the original Panerai Firenze .
When i see someone wearing a 1313, i assume its his first panerai. on the other hand, a 45mm radiomir or a bronzo, carbotech.. hes been collecting panerais for a while.
It looks great and I’d love to have one, but I just can’t stomach the price on these, being £7300. Just look at what you get from Rolex, Omega and Tudor for a similar price. The fit finish and movement can’t warrant more than £5k in my book, but when has the luxury watch market ever made sense!
Panerai used to be cool but now the management of the brand and their marketing strategy became a total joke with their misleading info about in-house movements which turned out to be eta modifications, showing fake models in their official page, removing features like hacking from a certain model and describing this move as "update" and removing decorations from movements to cut corners... totally not worth buying a recent model nowadays. I would stay away from Panerai and never look at them as a serious watchmaker like they used to be before. It is better to spend that money on a really prestigious brand that will never do such unloyal moves towards its customers and fans. Thanks for the video.
