Peugeot 607 Dashboard Removal

  • Removing the full dash on a 2001 Peugeot 607.
There may be a few reasons to remove the dash. Perhaps if the heater matrix or air conditioning condenser develop a fault or the airbag on the passenger side has gone off.
On this 607 I was stripping it down to scrap it, I only wanted to save the 2.2 HDi engine as my 406 has the same engine. However, as I had removed the 607s roof for a bit of fun to make a convertible it made it easier to film the dashboard removal.

It is always a good idea to lock the clockspring in "zero" position with ziptie or sth :)

I had them sitting in the shed for a while, was speaking to another 607 owner in the local motor factors told him about the parts and gave them to him the next day. Still see that car driving about.

What about the service battery in the boot?

    • @peugeotCitroen2CV

This particular car did not have one as it was the base model, if yours has a service battery then also disconnect it.

Hi, i left the display in the car when i scrapped it. This screen had missing lines, and in the heat half the screen would go black.
On the plus side having a 607 you could get a colour LCD screen from a higher specification car to fit in that space which would be nicer to look at.

Hi, thanks for answering, that's a classic problem in that screen model, some of those flaws can be fixed.
My 607 is 2001 model and putting a color screen would be very complicated for the version and there would be no maps for my country's gps, so I got a frame with the big screen hole and install a Garmin GPS behind, the old screen small install it under the stereo.
      Regards !

      Hi
The 406 uses the same type of screen, i would be very interested in hearing from someone who knew how to fix them but i still haven't found anyone capable of fixing it.
I dont think its actually too big a job to change to the bigger screen. I had a 607 with the colour screen and it used the same connector at the back. Even without the navigation system added in the colour screen just presents the information in a more presentable manner.

      Hi there,
I am not too sure to be honest i never had to do it
It was possible to remove the matrix on the 406 but not the 306
I have the workshop maual here and it says remove the dashboard, However its worth trying to remove the glovebox and possibly the steering column depending on if your car is LHD or RHD, it might be possible to squeeze it past possibly with a small bit of trimming. However without having specifically removed the heater matrix on its own i dont know if its possible.

Sorry haha I thought this was the 406 dash removal video. I only kept the 2.2 HDi engine from the 607 as a spare as i now drive a 406 with the same engine. I didn't hold onto any 607 bits. However although they are a bit less common they are not too hard to find breakers on ebay who can supply those parts

      Hi
I dont have anything left from this car, this video is 4 years old.
When you say remote control window do you mean the window switches?
The drivers side window switches and power steering pumps are shared with the 406, 2.0 or 2.2 HDi use the same pump. Ive swapped them about, actually fitted a 406 pump to this 607 and then kept the pump after the 607 and put it back on a 406.

Ah its not too bad, consider what the designers/engineers have to work with in order to accommodate all the parts that make up the car. Yet also ensure that the car can be assembled as efficiently as possible whilst also hiding the methods of fastening the parts otherwise customers or rather reviewers would complain about exposed bolt heads.
It varies between cars but in general this 607 dash isnt really too hard to remove.

Plenty of parts went on though to keep other 607s going.

Cheap work in that i paid no one for it?
Regarding brutality bear in mind this was a car going to the scrapyard. I popped the airbag in the dash yes but most of the parts removed were perfectly usable afterwards.
The airbags were not usable afterwards yes, but that is because they cant be posted anywhere and only fit a 607 so there is no point in keeping them.
I kept a fair few small parts that are interchangeable with the 406 the other bits i listed as a job lot of 607 parts on ebay for a while at £20, no one bought them, there is no point in hoarding parts for a car i dont have.

What french car do you have?
I had a pair of 607's and a 605. The 607s it was difficult to sell parts for them, not many sold here, and they are generally well made cars. The 605 had an engine bay fire caused by bad aged wiring, although the parts did earn more than what i could have sold the car for.
