  • This will be the steering for the hoveround power chair go kart. being that it didn't have a steering wheel I didn't want to put one on it, so this was my solution. I used a h-bridge, voltage converter, servo and transmitter and receiver. Doing this you could make any go kart or other things remote control. This is a how to remote control go kart/ high torque servo.

    Thanks for the idea with the windscreen wiper motor as a servo but could do with some refinement with some gear wheels to the servo potentiometer which would give you much smoother & precise steering then a pice of stiff wire, Nice job regardless.

    Hi, great job!!
    I try to made the same project, with the same transmitter and bts7960, the only difference is the motor, it's not wiper motor, is a 12vdc motor with 27Rpm, and before I link the servo arm to the motor arm, I had to find the center of the servo, because the motor didn't stop, after that, I link the two arms, and when I move the steering, the motor don't come back to the center, and I'm don't know what it's wrong!!!
    Can you give me some advice/help??

    Great video. I was tried this, but with a smaller much cheaper servo. And get lots if noise from the servo, and kept giving the motor input when it wasn't needed. Burning the motor. Do u think that a better servo might help me on this?. Thanks..

    • @FireAndGasoline
      @FireAndGasoline  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You may have had something wired incorrectly or not adjusted so that the servo was telling the motor to move constantly. If not perhaps a better servo would help. Haven't had any issues with mine.

Like something that would be in a rc drone. You would need to do some research to see if that could work. As far as coding there may be other youtubers that have vids on that. Thanks for watching!

  • @stevefox3763
    @stevefox3763 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    That H bridge is a fire hazard, the heatsink needs taking off and a thermal pad putting under it as there is nothing but the anodised layer on the heatsink electrically isolating the two driver IC's.
    if they make contact with each other, especially at high current, you will have a very bad day.

    • @FireAndGasoline
      @FireAndGasoline  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It has thermal paste on it and its only running at 12vDC it dosen't even get hot. Have rode it for numerous hours and its just fine. Even if the entire system burnt up its only $80 in parts total so not a huge loss. Thanks for watching Steve! Here are videos of it working: th-cam.com/video/T5xMn2v7UGc/w-d-xo.html

    • @stevefox3763
      @stevefox3763 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@FireAndGasoline thermal paste is not good enough, you need a thermal pad that will provide proper electrical isolation!
      The two IC's have electrically conductive though holes and the only thing stopping the two IC's from shorting out on the heatsink is the Anodized layer.
      If the two make contact with each other it will let the magic smoke out of the H bridge in a catastrophic way and potentially the rest of your wiring too.
      Take your heat sink off and stick a meter on the two IC's through holes where the heatsink normally sits and run your motor back and forth, you will see why it needs to have a proper electrical isolation and only luck is preventing it shorting out!

    • @FireAndGasoline
      @FireAndGasoline  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Anyone got any idea on making a servo saver for a application of this size I built a rc car like this years ago and took it apart to reengineering with suspension but it’s been on hold do to no time and could not find a way to make a servo saver that I’m happy with
    So if anyone have a idea please share
    Also like the way you wired the motor good work

    • @FireAndGasoline
      @FireAndGasoline  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I dont believe it needs one atleast how i have this set up. It wouldn't be hard to make though. You would just need the rod to have springs on each side of the servo and the rod to be able to slip on the servo mount. Then the springs would take the shock out of it. Thanks for watching, maybe check out some of our other vids and consider subscribing!

    Can the RC steering with servo work for a rack and pinion steering?

    • @FireAndGasoline
      @FireAndGasoline  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      It could but you would need to change a few things. Instead of the arm on the wiper motor to the steering knuckle you would need to use gears. You would determine the turns to lock from center and come up with a gear ratio that would end up 1:1 at the wiper motor. It will take some extra work and figuring but definitely possible.

    I’ve been working on my hover round R/C car for a couple years now since I started it, but about a year and a half ago it go put on the back burner cuz I couldn’t figure out how to wire up a wiper motor to a servo. There’s a few videos out there that try to help, but I’m so electronic illiterate I still couldn’t figure it out. I was hoping your video was gonna help me out finally, but you don’t describe what wire you’re soldering to what wire...? Also you can’t see with your arm in the way what colors you have in your hand. So once again my hover round tubbed out Mercades power wheel will sit in my front room as a decoration piece.

      Im not even sure how to respond to you. If you are saying this project has is taking too long feel free to send money or parts to finish it. If you actually watched the video you would have atleast some understanding of how i did this. The wire colors dont matter as its just spare wire i had laying around. The only thing i didn't show was the connections to the h-bridge, wich i offered to send to anyone that messages me. I don't really make anything off my vids, i just do this to help and entertain people. Dont like it, dont watch it. My setup works, i have had quite a few people send me pics and vids of the projects they made using my dirrections so they cant be all that bad. If you are serious and actually want help maybe come back with a better comment.

      Fire And Gasoline I’m not trying to sound like a dick, I was hoping to get more info from your video so I can finish my project that I started 2 years ago, but you aren’t really clear on what wire goes with what wire. Yo just say we’ll solder this wire here to this wire here, and your hand or arm is in the way and I can’t see what colors the wires you’re using. I’ll get my setup back from the guy that was supposed to help me last year and hasn’t, and I’ll let you know what colors the 5 wires are coming out of my wiper motor and etc.
