George was exactly on time. 20 years later I marry a women in Bulgaria who teaches English, and she says George Carlin is a Philosopher, she loves his Engliish language. Her students can hardly believe what they hear from him.
Gen-X here, and I believe that my childhood of eating dirt, jumping from high heights, playing in the creek and catching critters, and sledding over rocks has toughened me up to having a strong immune system. Carlin is one of the greats, and in my top 3 of all time. He's brilliant.
That was awesome. I love Carlin. I love his bit on the differences between football and baseball, as well as his bit on the environment. Carlin was indeed a prophet! I hope you guys check out more of him, as well as Pryor, Murphy, Steven Wright, and a lot of other old school comedians. Awesome guys!!! Oh, and go Noles!!
@@icecreamassassin3006They... they could be 40 now lol.. I'm really confused about what you're skeptical about. Could've had a pox party when you're saying they were popular, being kids then, had those complications, then continued aging till now. Blindness and deafness don't go away.
I could remember as a kid playing tackle football in the streets in front of our homes and jumping makeshift ramps with our bikes getting scrapes and cuts all the time and loving it. Also we drank water out of our hose on the side of the house. Glad I had those memories growing up years ago.
I love Carlin! I'm a Boomer but I actually didn't listen to him when I was younger. It has only been in the past 5 years or so that I have come upon his concerts on TH-cam. He's a genius comic and speaks so much truth that was relevant then and is still relevant today. Thanks for the laugh!
So when I was introduced to George Carlin, Richard Pryor, Redd Foxx, etc., we did not have the videos to watch the comedian. I would go to someone's house who had the album, and we would listen to the routine. Our minds had to fill in the image of the person or the scenario that they were conveying, which became more detailed with every listen. The old Cheech and Chong albums were quite good at building the image of the scene. When the videos became readily available, it was like frosting on a cake (like George's facial expressions). They were completed!! Thank you for this reaction and I look forward to seeing more comedy reactions!
This was part of his HBO special You are all diseased back in 1999. 20 years before COVID. He was more than a comedian, he was someone that made you think about the world around you and the things he say have some truth to it.
I'm a Boomer and everything you said about playing in dirt, been there done that, when I was growing up my Grand father used to burn the covering on copper wire and us kids would clean it off and roll the wire into balls so Pop could take to the scrap yard, we would take an extra set of clothes with us to wear home, it was great fun we loved it. Every day we couldn't wait to get outside and play in the dirt, as adults we couldn't wait get outside and under our cars in all the oil and junk, we had friends with their cars lined up in the driveway so they could be worked on, they were the days, after the cars it off to the pool hall which I used to manage. Cheers from South Australia.
This was an AWESOME choice to show Alexis based on recent years. I met George several times over the years including being an extra in a movie with him. He was an amazing man, and we need more people like him. Awesome choice for a video.
George is absolutely right to how we built up our "immune system" back in the day by the way we did things & played outside as kid's, no bout a doubt it my friend's. Most of the time our mom's beat our azz beat for messing up our clothes by doing it. But in the long run it made it was all worth it looking back at it all now today for sure. Digging in the dirt, playing football in the mud, swimming in slimy creeks, diving off ledges into lakes & quarries, etc... was just apart of life & what we did for fun. And I still wouldn't change a thing or trade those good times day's for nothing. You 2 have a great show going on here that's quite special whether you know it or not. IDK about anyone else but I see a genuine insight on both ends of the generational gap, young & old(er). 😜 Not only the respect you have for each other's opinions but you've built a true chemistry between you together which is pretty cool to see, bravo! Keep on keeping on & keep your head up, ya dig? +Peace & Rock n' Roll 4 Your Souls My Friends+ 🤘😉🤘
I remember when one person got chicken pox the parents would get all of the kids together and have a chicken pox party. This was to get everyone exposed to it and, hopefully, everyone would get it and then be set for life because you usually can only get chicken pox once in your life. We also drank out of the hose and had to go outside to play and not come back in until the street lights came on.
@nathansossai, no, they didn't, lol. Do you think hiding from germs is gonna help you? People wanna just ignore the fact that we're a bunch of pussies now. Man up. Life's tough.
Carlin did the original weekend update, in early 60s, in black n white, on a variety show...suit, desk, and the paper shuffle..my favorite news flash was as follows... ( Deeddeddeedee ) ..." this just in...Man attemping to walk around the World today...DROWNED! )..😂😂😂
Have this whole routine and come back to it often, I never forget since then to wash the 4 key area s and I thank George and being exposed to Germs for a strong immune system. He's great, happy to see Alexis enjoyed him. Forever missed. Loved all those comedians you mentioned Burch.
Gen Xer here too. The garden hose always was the coldest, tastiest water, we would regularly, somehow end up with mud in our mouths,......(tastes different than our mud at home). We rode our bikes (after our chores were done, first thing in the morning) all day, as far as we could go. Our play area was about 10 square miles, as long as we rode home before dinner. Of course, I still got my measels, diptheria, mumps, TB tests, German measels, and polio vaccines, plus it was mandatory that we all take our flouride tablet everyday of kindergarten. All the teachers had decorative paddles hanging on the wall by their desks with implied consent for it's use when needed. BB guns were popular items for "show and tell", teachers would allow students to "fight it out, a bit" before interceding. Our tolerance for rigorous activity physically and mentally was stronger, and bullies were something we all had to correct ourselves, as a rite of passage, a stage in growing up. All this bred independence and inspiration into our everyday lives. Anti depressants really started in the 90s, after litigation sensitized our schools. .............going to school with a foot of snow, and still snowing...waking at 4:30am to do your chores (without being told) ..........those were the days.
Great choice Birch! I have George on vinyl! I saw him at The Bally’s Hotel Casino in Vegas (now The Horseshoe, previously The MGM Grand (OG version)). I love him! He started on The Ed Sullivan Show, suit and tie, man! I like your list Burch I’d add Robert Klein. For a George, the 7 magic words bit, request. Joe
My favorite bit is "Soft Language". If you followed George's career it is visibly clear he become a "little" more sarcastic and bitter in his last few specials but remained just as funny.
Rest in peace George. I had the pleasure of seeing George back in 1979 and 1980 at a little dinner club. For around $20 bucks you got a choice of a couple different meals and tickets to the show. I think my 1st taste of George was his album "Toledo Window Box" in the early seventies. I think that special was from the mid eighties, one of many on HBO.
When I was a kid (gen X here too) we used to have chicken pox parties. One of my cousins came home from school with chicken pox - all of us (cousins) went to stay at granny's house (she had the biggest house) until we all caught it. It didn't have to be a relative either - if a kid in the neighborhood came down with mumps, measles, or chicken pox, the neighborhood kids would go "play" with them so they could get it and get it over with. Fun times.
I have always taken this germ bit to heart. I wash my hands when they’re dirty and that’s it. I don’t use antibacterial this and that in my immune system is as strong as an ox
That was a classic video clip George Carlin reminds me of another comedian Gallagher from the early 80's with his SHOWTIME classic videos he is very funny in person as well.
This is so spot on. Consider how long ago this video was made. Carlin nails it! This cracks me up, people driving their car, wearing a mask, the windows are up, and likely the air conditioning is filtered… Consider the movie, “War Of The Worlds” (the Tom Cruise version. Why did the aliens die?)
Saw Carlin live in Tahoe in '86. What a show, what a treasure. His bits are so funny because they are about REAL stuff. Honest and true, just put in a comic light. OK, Burch. Now start her at the beginning. "Al Sleet, the Hippy-Dippy Weatherman" is the 1st character I remember well. Or his album, "AM-FM". Something more cerebral would be Steven Wright.

I got to see George in 97. He was great. But it was a sad time for him, his wife had just passed and his daughter was touring with him to mourn together.

He's one of the G.O.A.T.s, and I had the pleasure of seeing him perform live in 2004.

I can remember Chicken Pox parties/ Sleep Overs. And as a RETIRED Paramedic I'm glad to see people not shying away from germs.
I agree on general but i know 2 people, one blind, one deaf in one ear as a direct result of a pox party
@jamesmyles4540 how old were they? 40? The idea of pox parties was for pre-teens to get it while it was relatively harmless.
@icecreamassassin3006 blind one was 6, deaf was 8. Its fine when the cases are mild, but not every case is.

That was great! I've always been a huge fan of Carlin. Yeah, definitely do more of his videos. I really enjoy the channel guys.
I can still remember looking forward to his yearly HBO routines.
George was truly an amazing person. Didnt care about anyones feelings. Just told it like it was. 😂
Carlin should have been an immortal since his material is timeless. He'd have a field day today.
Being from Argentina, never heard of him, but he is very funny I look for him to see more shows!
