I cannot get over how fast these planes are. BTW, I could not do what these guys are doing. I don't have the giant hairy bean bag to do this kind of flying. But it's fun to watch. Thanks for posting. Anyway, I am considering the purchase of an RV8.
Hey Dan, just ran across this. It was great seeing you and Diane at Reno 2019. Amazing that you can get all that performance out of a 4-cyl IO-390. Also interesting to see all the different configurations on the RVs. See you again sometime. Moody Blue
If you made a friendly suggestion or request to post the video with original audio I would probably do it. Snarky remarks are less likely to yield a positive response.
@@chadcoady9025 top speed of the RV8 as published by Vans Aircraft is 220 mph. These hotrod RV8s were flying with faster "average" speed than this published number. This mean at certain portion of the race, they were flying even faster than their race average speed.
@@2Phast4Rocket I was under the impression they (the race planes) were flying under VNE, they just have a lot mote power for accelerating out of turns. My father and I are about 95% done with our RV-8. I don't know exactly what CAN be done to make the plane capable of exceeding the VNE, but I'm not an aerodynamic engineer :). Maybe more ribs are added to the wing and fuselage?
@@chadcoady9025 It's very easy to exceed VNE in these slick airplanes. Airplanes usually don't get close to VNE at level but the moment the nose is lowered and the nitrous oxide kicks in, they go fast. BTW, planes don't accelerate out of the turn like in cars. They try to maintain as constant speed as much as possible. During a race, planes can be positioned higher so they can zoom down during the last lap to pass a competitor.
Why only 1 RV-8 vid? Also, care to share any engine specs? Also what's your Vmax, especially at lower altitudes? Do you regularly exceed Van's Vne? Did you make any mods to the RV-8, like clipped wings? Or can't really say due to competition? Thanks & nice vid! Well done!
I am not the pilot in any of these videos. I film and edit for these friends at Reno and other events but mostly for the races. I can find out a lot of those engine specs from the pilot and let him decide what to share.
Yes, but they'd also be much heavier and more expensive. The RV-8 is a home-built aircraft with a empty weight just over 1,100 lbs and a gross weight of 1,800 lbs.
I just saw a video with an RV-8, and it was a 150 hp nine cylinder. Now I'm confused exactly what is an "RV-8." This one only has 4 cylinders? Is it an in-line 4, boxer, what is the engine configuration? Here is the page of the nine cylinder RV-8 th-cam.com/video/1HdqLQEpZoA/w-d-xo.html

I THINK THAT YOU MIGHT HAVE HURT HIS FEELINGS DAN! THAT’S AWESOME AND THANKS SO VERY MUCH FOR SHARING THAT WITH US!

Why does everything have to be music infused? I wanted to hear the planes engine. :/
fullofbaddassness because it’s not your video?
jeffrey rose Is that a question?
fullofbaddassness yes, I don’t have your answers
Your right the music sucks

Great job to Dan West for his situational awareness. Good flying!
What is the modification was made to the wing of the RV8 to allow it to fly at way past the VNE speed?
How do you know it's exceeding the VNE? Just curious.

How did he do against Bill Beaton’s Harmon Rocket Supercharged IO-540?
Great fun racing! 2 closely matched planes ripping around the pylons...
Must be super aggravating knowing you have superior speed and being forced to stay so wide, kudos on the move
Wondering what sort of top speed you are able to achieve and how many horsepower your engine is putting out.
Two rules: never trust aviators taste in music, or listen to their politics.
Was that Brett in Team Radical getting passed by a 4 cylinder? Lol
taltruda that’s Brett😉
Video = 10. Music = 1. TH-cam needs to stop with the oonz oonz on every video.

I would like to know too.
@@2Phast4Rocket If he broke red line, he would not say so hear. Not saying he did, but it is a good question.
On the deck running scared how fast can this thing go?
Wouldn't the planes go faster if they had retractable gear?

Who's the artist to the song? I cannot find it.
It is unlicensed music which can be used in videos for free. I can send you a file if you message me directly.
I found the song on youtube Lonczinski - How I like to feel. The Alt Tab replaying the song is a pain during my gaming
Ruined with music

patrick young Vans RV-8 is a kit built, single engine, tandem seating, tail dragger. From there, the builder chooses their own options.
I quit watching 30 seconds in because of the music(noise)
It was fun. Haha
