I want to leave a really huge thank you on this video. I know what it’s like to make videos for a small audience and get not very many views. I just wanted to say after getting wrongfully terminated from my job and not having enough money for a lawyer I was looking for a new job. I finally found one a month later and managed to impress my new employer by automating their invoice system to spreadsheets with this series and save them thousands on paper and ink they would typically have to mail out each day. Thank you so much for helping me and so many others.
Great series sir! I almost purchased an invoicing system for my business, but my girlfriend insisted I do some research and create my own. I found this series and all she's been saying is "I told you so!" LOL. A few tweaks and scripts to get it running on my Mac, but I now have a perfect invoicing system for my business! THANK YOU SO MUCH!
Huge Thankyou Chester! After 20 yrs of QBooks and a few upgrades Im forced to their subscription service with my appx 100 invoices a year. Went through all 6 videos and was able to modify to get a solution that works for me. As a non Excel user, I was able to build your basic KEEL to get the process started. Now Im back up and running a simple invoicing database. Thankyou for not wasting my time, sticking to the point and really helping!!!! Goodbye QB
This is probably one of the best tutorials in the world🙌🏾 the guidance in these series is absolutely phenomenal and easy to follow along. Thank you very much for gifting us with this wonderful automated invoicing system ❤ it definitely will make it easy for my business!!
I searched the internet high and low for the perfect way to set up invoices and receivables all while maintaining a customer database- and I am so glad that I stumbled upon this video! Fantastic explanation and narrating. Thank you for posting such a miraculous invention! I've been using this file for my small business, with some adaptations, and it works WONDERFULLY.
I'm a writer and really only know how to work in Word .... this is the first time I've ever felt I understood excel. What an absolutely marvellous tutorial, many thanks!
THANK YOU SO MUCH! This is *exactly* what I need! I cannot tell you how many zillions of hours and $$ you have saved me. I can now ditch the $600/year quickbooks subscription and build my own. Your video descriptions are incredibly clear and educational. I was able to expand your system to include time tracking and create more buttons to generate the invoice from a log of services rendered for each client. I really cannot thank you enough for this wonderful resource and excellently delivered content.
Mr. Chester, with your help I now have a fully built invoicing system from automated invoices to generation of account statements. Thank you, you are a great teacher!❤
This tutorial video was one of the best. Explaining well, and clearly, all details are said nothing is ignored. Tune of voice and speed etc. Why not everyone around the world is not following this guy? well-educated person
Hi, I do not generally add comments online, but this tutorial merit my comments. My wife and I want to start a rental business, we needed an invoice system, did not know how to do that. Your tutoral has helped significantly. than you. will watch the other videos .
This is awesome! My dad has been using a TYPEWRITER to send out invoices! I will be taking over the company next year and with this I can a move us into the 21st century.
Thank you so much for taking your time to share this and educate us. I almost bought an invoicing system but my partner told me to Google this for my business and it's exactly what I was looking for. You've saved me monthly subscriptions . Many thanks to you.
This is one of the best presentations on how to use Microsoft excel I have seen , I have known for a long time that Exel can do many things but didn't know where to start. Chester explains things brilliantly , I got the invoice and macros working because thanx to Chester I understood what I was doing. Thank you very much for your professional contribution.
Hi Chester, I just wanted to say a big thank you. You helped me a lot today, not on this subject, but on creating a numbered style list. Your explanation is wonderfully clear. Much appreciated. Angela
The contribution is very detailed and instructive. Great praise for your patience and willingness to share your knowledge with others. I am grateful that there is someone willing to do this. You enabled others to speed up their work and give them a great incentive to achieve their goals
This video alone will probably get you into heaven. Brother, you are indeed an accessible source of knowledge! You have saved me. May God bless you and protect you from any harm.
This video is amazing, very clear and easy to follow. I am starting my new small business and can't afford much to start with. Thank you to your series of videos Chester, I was able to create an invoice to get myself going. I am very thankful I have come across your videos and you certainly have been a life saver. Not only that, you have educated me on how to use excel and the many uses it has. I am sure you have only scratched the surface on what excel can really do. I don't post comments very often but truly thank you for your videos and I also look forward to learning more from you. Truly amazing!!!!
Hi Chester, you're a great teacher. I've followed your series on how to create an invoice and I've benefitted a great deal. Needless to say, however, I'm still asking for more: How about tackling the aspect of printing the invoice, especially creating and printing an invoice that may span multiple pages??. This one is quite scarce on the internet. Thanking you in advance.
Thank you for this video! I will watch more of your other videos to refresh my skills and knowledge in Excel. I learned all these in College but have forgotten most of them especially the macros, formulas, etc. Super thankful I found this video because this is exactly what I need for my business now. Who knew right? That almost 20 years down the line we'd find ourselves still using Excel for data entry, record keeping, etc. I thought before, in 20 years I'm sure what I'm learning now would be useless because technology would be so advanced by that time but...I find myself here now watching this video. 😄
Thank you for these amazing videos! Quick question, what macro do I need to insert in order for me to input a price and have it automatically multiply it by a percentage (all in the same cell)?
Hi Chester, excellent videos which have helped me a lot. Do you have any videos showing how to sync Invoice to Inventory? So automatically reducing stock according to the invoice? Thanks for your videos!!
This is super helpful and there's nothing else like it that I have found. Truly the answer to my prayers. Quick question - I have many different types of addresses from companies in different countries. Sometimes I will have a blank address box for Address 4 and Address 5 for example. Right now it's displaying a zero - how do I make the zeros just appear as blank cells if they do not refer to part of an address?
Great video, I am a beginner and this has been extreme useful thank you. Your manner and speed is spot on and you make it very easy to follow the tutorial. THANK YOU.(One observation, your vat calculation is incorrect. It should be 20% of I19 not G19. ) I am looking to create a document which is specifically to track complaints to the council so need a unique number for this as well as a link to email exchanges. I will use what I have learned in this tutorial to do as much as I can however do you have a tutorial for this type of document please
Chester, thank you very much for this series on creating an Invoice, it has been so so helpful, I have followed all the videos and am now using this for my small business, you are a star. Just one question, is there a way that when i select an item from my popdown box in description, the price can be populated at the same time. Thank you again
Hi Chester, thank you for this series of videos. I was looking for this for a couple of weeks, and I found this tutorial of yours today. It was clear and informative. Keep doing more! God Bless!
HI Chester, thank you for this brilliant video. I now have a fully working invoice system. Unfortunately I still have one issue. Can you tell me how to stop a 0 appearing in the address lines if there are no details in that field
Such a fantastic walkthrough and explanation. Thank you for taking the time to do this. On a side note, this template that you have shared for Excel is there a way that I would be able to convert this into Google Sheets without loosing the macro/automated actions? Thank you in advance.
This is wonderful! Do you have a tutorial for generating an invoice based on table of data where one vendor may have multiple line items and one may only have one line item, and how to merge them into one invoice based on something like a purchase order or reference number?
This video has been a huge help! Very easy to follow as well. One weird thing though is when I go onto my Visual Basic application, it is all in German? I've gone into options, language and all my preferences are in English and I can't change it to English? Any help from comments or from yourself would be much appreciated!
I love how you explain things that make it easy to follow. I am wanting to create an invoice for my husbands business that is super easy to use which actually means I am unable to do a Drop down menu. My Husband is in the Automotive industry and some of his customers have more than 1 car so my way of thinking was if I could type the Rego number into the field and all relevant information shows up on the invoice. My question is how can I go about that?
You've gained a new subscriber! I am new to Excel and am intrigued and overwhelmed with all the possibilities and project ideas. Your calm demeanor and clear instructions make this project easy to understand and follow. Thank you!
Thank you. I've learned a lot already. In the United States, our address use a city, state, and zipcode separated by comas all in one line. How can I or can you point me in the direction of how to recall these from the Address 3, 4 and 5 fields and write them to the invoice in the city, state, zipcode format?
Hey this video helped me a lot in many ways and I am very grateful for this lesson but can you tell what if we just want to change the invoice number and all data of consignee and description etcetera shows up. Can you help in this regard. I will be very grateful
Hi Chester... great work on the spreadsheet template. Just a quick comment (hopefully a constructive one)... when you calculated the VAT in the table, you calculated the VAT amount only for 1 item. It should either be multiplied by the nr of items in the table or resolved in the VAT Total.
Chester, this is great and works the charm on a windows file system. Have you managed to get it to work on MAC OS. I am struggling to get the .xls and .pdf to save!
Hi, this is great and a life saver but how can I protect all the formulas cells (not otheres) but still allow the macros to run/function/report etc. thank you
Hi Chester thank you so much for this awesome content, I am trying to follow along and create my own automated invoice system...but of course, having issues lol, I am using Excel 2019and I am on the first video and I can seem to make the reference customer list to work...also, when you create the customer table, under the email, can I add multiple emails? if so, how do I do that? I mean, if I use a comma between all the necessary emails, will Excel understand it? Thanks in advance
I have tried to use this template several times but I just cannot get it to run due to Macros not been enabled, I have made sure the settings in trust center are ticked but I cannot use it. Any help would be appreciated as the template looks amazing and the video is so easy to follow.
THANK YOU< Chester! Super helpful. I spent the entire day working on an invoice with customer list and item list dropdowns. This was unfamiliar territory and I could not have accomplished this without this most excellent tutorial. Thank you!
Great video thanks. My only problem now is when I haven't got a full address for certain clients and rather than a blank space it inserts a zero. How can I get it to just leave a blank cell when the address column doesn't contain data - or is that not possible?
🙃I have beeen teaching myself how to do an automated Invoice quite successfully, in no small part due to your fantastic tutorials, for the most part everything as worked without a hitch, thank you I have struck 2 problems for the want of a better term, 1st, when I enter a new customer into the customer list it appears to be outside the table, I have got around this by clicking on the bottom of the lowest right cell and dragging it down so it adds the selected rows to the table 2nd, I used the first row in the customer list as a message i.e. Click here to select the customer --> the arrow points at the drop down button, but when I print & save the invoice it saves the customers name and does not return to the click here message as the customer.
I love you videos, and made an invoice following you. My only question is: Is there a way to hit the Tab button on my keyboard, and have the cursor jump to my next input cell? It's a pain to constantly have to take my hands off the keyboard to the mouse.
Hi, I like your invoice system that you have created. Is there a possibility that you can incorporate a credit, debit note and quotation to this system?
I have to say that your video's are excellent, how about adding a quote/cost estimate facility to your automated excel invoice, I.E. make a quote, customer approves, push a button and invoice is genererated from quote data
Thank you so much, i love your video. It make me to easily know how to set the VBA. Just have a question, if i want to send the PDF using gmail instead of outlook. May i know how to do the setting.
=IF(F19"",F19*G19*20%,"") Chester! I think the formula in the VAT column has to be like that, in order to calculate the total value of VAT to be paid. I look forward to hearing from you. Thanks
Have you ever run into issues with some of these functions being volatile? Last year I had built this entire workbook with the numerous sheets discussed on my MAC and it worked great for me. This year I now have a Windows, and I made the minor changes needed for the Macros to work... but since I have done so, my issue is that the calculating is taking forever and is making this workbook almost useless. I am wondering if it is because there have been volatile functions used? Its all I can really find on the web... That said I am still confused... because the workbook still works super quick on my Macbook, but as soon as I start using the Windows version, the calculation take forever. Thank-you for any input given!
Great tutorial, so clear and easy to follow your instructions... however, I'm getting an error with the data drop down. Doing it exactly as you are showing, but I think there is a cell formatting issue on mine that needs to change? For example the 30,60,90 it gives me "30,60,90" as the only drop down option, its not breaking it up into 3 options and with my customer drop down its still not giving me the newly added customers even after creating the name dropdown which I did like yours. Any advice?
Hi, I really love your explanations, I am getting an error when trying to put the addresses into the B11. The names go in perfect, its the addresses that are an issue for me any help would be great, thanks.
Hello Chester, thanks for this very nice tutorial! I'm actually copying this Invoice template, which looks very convenient. I did however, found a small error in your explanation on the calculations. In minute 21 you are copying the total of the VAT's column but these are actually VAT's of 1 unit! Not for all 6 of them. You will need another calculation there! The solution: =SUM(I19:I35)*0,20 (total of exc vat * 20%)
Mr. Chester, I learned a lot from your video but just one thing I'd like to add. I think you forgot to add the multiply formula in the VAT column. As it will only calculate only a single VAT item no matter what the quantity is. Please correct me if I am wrong.
first of all, i am very thankful to you, for your video. i am facing some problems if you guide, it is very helpful. 1. i want to stop duplicate invoice number in invoice record file. 2. if invoice is not saved with the invoice number, when we press to create new at that time the invoice number should not change, but unfortunately it is happening. kindly can you guide us for these 2 problems.
Hi mate, any chance we could have a “how to” on an invoice with a description box where you can write out a description of the work that you carried out/repaired that expands as you type more, which then merges the below content onto the next page? Maybe the same for an items/parts used, qty, price ect table that also expands as you add more items
Rookie question with reference to the customer dropdown: Is there a simple way to grab a customer from the customer list, when the list grows to more than a few dozen customers? I imagine scrolling down the list would become problematic. Thank you for the video; Quite helpful.
This is really useful and simply explained (compliment). Would you be prepared to enhance it slightly, I need to be able to historically review the quantity of each item I have sold but currently it only stores the invoice number, customer and total price and not the items with their prices and quantities. Hope you can help.
I want to leave a really huge thank you on this video. I know what it’s like to make videos for a small audience and get not very many views. What a great explanation and useful tutorial for automated invoice creation! Thank you Chester!
Hi Chester, you're a great teacher. I've followed your series on how to create an invoice and I've benefitted a great deal. Needless to say, however, I'm still asking for more:

Hi Chester, thank you for this series of videos. I was looking for this for a couple of weeks, and I found this tutorial of yours today. It was clear and informative. Keep doing more! God Bless!
Glad it was helpful!
Great tutorial! I can’t wait to follow along the rest of the series as I look to replace FileMaker Pro for my invoicing
Have fun!
HI Chester, thank you for this brilliant video. I now have a fully working invoice system. Unfortunately I still have one issue. Can you tell me how to stop a 0 appearing in the address lines if there are no details in that field
This was very helpful! Thank you. I wondered on how to do this. Your video made it so much easier for me to do our business invoices. 😀

Those who may be having trouble using the F3 key on Mac..you can simply type the name you saved... just place an equal sign first.
Such a fantastic walkthrough and explanation. Thank you for taking the time to do this.

This is very helpful and thank you for making this video.
That was great, great work Chester!
Man this is really beautiful and an eye opener

Simply wonderful and clear teaching. This video is a game changer for me when it comes to using excel. Looking forward to viewing more of your videos
Thanks, its working perfectly, only i want to use 9% and 21% tax, do u have a video about that?
Thank you. I've learned a lot already. In the United States, our address use a city, state, and zipcode separated by comas all in one line. Hi Chester... great work on the spreadsheet template. Just a quick comment (hopefully a constructive one)... when you calculated the VAT in the table, you calculated the VAT amount only for 1 item. It should either be multiplied by the nr of items in the table or resolved in the VAT Total.
Yep, school boy error, I fixed that on the download some time ago, but thanks for pointing out.
Chester, this is great and works the charm on a windows file system. Have you managed to get it to work on MAC OS. I am struggling to get the .xls and .pdf to save!
Learned a lot you are an awesome person and teacher
Thank you for your sharing. That's so easy to learn and great invoice.👍☺
Hello there! Thank you for the super helpful video! Can I check if I am able to edit the individual invoices once it is kept in the record? Thank u!
Hi, this is great and a life saver but how can I protect all the formulas cells (not otheres) but still allow the macros to run/function/report etc. thank you
Excellent tutorial, easy to understand. Thank you so much. Ps. Any possibility for adding Customer statements.
THANK YOU< Chester! Super helpful. I spent the entire day working on an invoice with customer list and item list dropdowns. This was unfamiliar territory and I could not have accomplished this without this most excellent tutorial. Thank you!
Extremely easy to understand video.. Thanks for sharing it with us..
Great video thanks. My only problem now is when I haven't got a full address for certain clients and rather than a blank space it inserts a zero. How can I get it to just leave a blank cell when the address column doesn't contain data - or is that not possible?
🙃I have beeen teaching myself how to do an automated Invoice quite successfully, in no small part due to your fantastic tutorials, for the most part everything as worked without a hitch, thank you
I have struck 2 problems for the want of a better term,
1st, when I enter a new customer into the customer list it appears to be outside the table, I have got around this by clicking on the bottom of the lowest right cell and dragging it down so it adds the selected rows to the table
2nd, I used the first row in the customer list as a message i.e. Click here to select the customer --> the arrow points at the drop down button, but when I print & save the invoice it saves the customers name and does not return to the click here message as the customer.
You have made this boring job fun and easy thank you for this fantastic tutorial :)
Great demonstration! Thanks Chester!!
Extremely informative. The quite useful technique for designing Invoice Template
Amazing! Any chance to have this tutorial using Google Sheets? It would be really great.
it is very simple to understand and follow the guidance. thank
So easy to follow although paused and replayed a lot many thanks
I have to say that your video's are excellent, how about adding a quote/cost estimate facility to your automated excel invoice, I.E. make a quote, customer approves, push a button and invoice is genererated from quote data
Thank you so much, i love your video. It make me to easily know how to set the VBA. Just have a question, if i want to send the PDF using gmail instead of outlook. May i know how to do the setting.
=IF(F19"",F19*G19*20%,"")
Chester! I think the formula in the VAT column has to be like that, in order to calculate the total value of VAT to be paid.
I look forward to hearing from you. Thanks
Yep, I think I posted a comment on that mistake, some time ago.
Yep, that has already been fixed in the downloadable template.👍👍👍
You have done magic there, thank you so much. 😊
This is huge! Is there an option to add quotation? I normally first send a quotation upfront, make the product, then send an invoice.
Mr. Chester, I learned a lot from your video but just one thing I'd like to add.
I think you forgot to add the multiply formula in the VAT column. As it will only calculate only a single VAT item no matter what the quantity is.
Please correct me if I am wrong.
Great video but yes you are right I was about to say the same
first of all, i am very thankful to you, for your video. i am facing some problems if you guide, it is very helpful. 1. i want to stop duplicate invoice number in invoice record file. 2. if invoice is not saved with the invoice number, when we press to create new at that time the invoice number should not change, but unfortunately it is happening. kindly can you guide us for these 2 problems.
Thanks for this. Can you import all invoice at once?
Very NICE! good job!
One question, i need to store data base in another excel file example "invoices book"
Excellent video, many thanks. Fantastic and very easy to follow.
You Are Number One. Thank you Very Much
This is really useful and simply explained (compliment). Would you be prepared to enhance it slightly, I need to be able to historically review the quantity of each item I have sold but currently it only stores the invoice number, customer and total price and not the items with their prices and quantities. Hope you can help.
concise and beautiful.....! good job mate
