  • I can't believe we haven't got around to doing this one sooner! So it was time for me and Vicki to get along to London's least used station ... Waterloo, so see what limited facilities it has.
    Website: www.geofftech.c...
With thanks to Network Rail & SWR for their permission to film at ... this terribly small and underused station! ;-)

It’s a key link to areas outside London and into London.
National Rail doesn’t need to make money always it’s about connecting the country.
Unless they build a new one, it’s staying. It also connects Waterloo East and everyone coming from the South-East and South-East London into central.
I guess most just go to London Bridge before or Charring Cross instead.

As luck would have it, I wandered into that very same station a couple decades ago when I visited London! I caught the train from the Waterloo stop to a town out in the country called “Paris.”
Paris was very quaint, but being American, it was hard for me to understand the local accent. It almost sounded like a foreign language. If you go, check out the big observation tower in the middle of town.
I understand they have discontinued service on the line from Waterloo to Paris in the last few years. It’s a shame they have to cut back like that. Hopefully, the station can stay open with the reduced traffic.

When I first started to work in 1954 , I used to commute through Waterloo. A member of the publicity department used to occupy a glass office above the station, and would play vinyl records to keep the crowds moving. In the morning, she would select brisk music to get people to work, but in the evening she selected gentle peaceful music, to sooth shattered nerves after their day's work. Some years' ago I happened to be talking to a lady and reminiscing about the station, and to my surprise, she told me that it was she who played the records that I heard each morning.

Going back even further, to when I was young: I used to go to Waterloo Station to enjoy the News theatre, which was high up above the station, at the Suburban end, when the films would often break down, and where they were accompanied by gentlemen asleep and snoring in the back row.
