This is the biggest 36 foot boat of this vintage that I've ever step foot on! From the cockpit, to the use of space down below, the Gozzard 36 exudes excellence in design.
    What do you think?

Learning the Lines is a channel about us, an average couple in our 20's, with big dreams to be sailing the world by the time we're in our 30's. We're not afraid to jump into anything, put in the work, and learn as we go. We started out with Somnium, an O'day 272, moved onto Freebie, an Endeavour 32, and now are focusing on sailboat tours and working full time as teachers while we save up for our next boat.

I've sailed on one of those and believe me you will not be loving it anymore in rough weather. Very impracticable design. What looks good to the eyes is often not seaworthy.

I simply love sailboats and how well they encapsulate the leisure lifestyle. All this give me hope for the future. Thirty six feet looks perfect.
The Bimini would make this craft possible for me as a multi melanoma survivor. So much room! As a backpacker this boat is enormous. I have a cousin I love to death who has Parkinson’s. He and his sister live near the water on the eastern seaboard. He lived on a 36 footer before he settled in Annapolis and his girlfriend took him in. I’ve always envied his ability to live on a sailor though he wound up there by divorce. This is perfect for an old man who lives alone. Thanks for the tour

All that wood looks like a lot of work, but honestly, I love this design. Very innovative! The open space might not be so good if your on big seas getting thrown from one side of the cabin to the other, but I reckon this would make a great coastal cruiser / weekend / holiday get away boat.

I used to agree but after oiling for more than 2 years and just switching to varnish I would definitely say for on deck use varnish is better. I have switched to oil for all brightwork under the dodger and varnish for everything exposed to the elements. It seems to be working well

To Hell with varnish. Only ignorant sailors still use varnish. Use a 50/50 mix is linseed oil and whatever functions as a turpentine these days. Varnish is for used-car salesmen who are trying to sell boats. Linseed oil and turpentine should be used on boats. Use varnish in your goddamn house.

Looking at the forepeak, it looks like an area you soul use for a lounge with small wet bar during the day and close it up for the owner's cabin in the evening. Seeing a lot of comment on the condition of the teak. Considering that good teak takes forever to rot, I don't see anything around the portlights that indicates massive leaking and didn't see anything indicating leakage on the ceiling. This is not everyone's ideal boat, but it will make a good boat for a couple that want to cruise and are not afraid to clean her up while they sail.

Nice design but really needs some TLC. It makes me wonder as to the current owners care of this boat. It is easier to keep a boat in ship-shape then letting it go to a point where it takes a lot of work to bring it back to what it should be.
What else did they not keep up on???
    I can't help but wonder.

This boat would be great if you're cruising where you can run for a day and put in, and at anchor it's truly spacious. That nifty forward cabin, though, is usable only as a sail locker in a seaway. The L-shaped galley isn't safe in rough weather or offshore, even if the cook is tied in. The galley port looks like it's leaking badly and would need to be dug out and reinstalled. Interior teak finish has reached the end of its useful life, and refinishing will be expensive. Same for the cabin sole. Possible water damage to the teak in the head. Exterior teak is weathered and wants refinishing. At a sale price of something like $80K, it might be worth considering. At $135, it's just too much.

  • @georgeburns7251

The interior and exterior layout is really impressive! You never see many boats in this size range offering the type of privacy and number of conversions. The fore cabin is the best example.
I think the owner might be seeing "vintage" over condition. That might swing with a boat from 1967...not so much for one from 1987...with the amount of wood work needed. And that's just what we saw on the tour.
If I could, with a pass on a surgery, I'd begin at $80k and see where it ends up.
    Just my thoughts.

Those boats were built in Canada. Nice boats that were pretty well made (if I remember correctly the molds went through three different owners). The owner of the marina in Charlevoix, Mi. where we moored our Casey cutter, had a franchise for the first iteration, Mariner Boats built in Bayfield, Ont. They were roomy, sea kindly, but slow as molasses in January.

well most of that was over 10 years ago, so those "new sails" back then are now almost ready to be replaced. Looks like they had teak restored, then did zero maintenance to it. why a bladder water tank? seems that the water tanks then need to be replaced and the bladder is just a temporary kludge to get buy for a while. Tilework in the head? Why it looks awful. the woodwork down below is all shot. looks like portlights leaked, likely still do. Boat presents itself as poorly maintained and bad shape with old updates done to it. Even the hull and deck look to need to be refinished. Seems in good shape they might bring 150,000 but as is I can't see this selling for more than 60 to 70,000. I could smell the below decks through the screen, and it was very unpleasant!

There are a lot of things I am not seeing for a boat at this listing. Lithium batteries, electronic updates, separate shower stall and what's up with that interior? The woodwork looks like she's been rode hard and put away wet and my question is why? The v berth sink is a total waste of space but like many of you I like the general layout. For the price the presentation has to be better to move it. I would suggest investing in the woodwork and some electronics.

Where is the main berth? It's must be the area you called the living room. Come on man!

The biggest? In terms of usable space? LWL is significantly shorter than LOA, so I'd like to register doubt...

It's 135k over priced unless your looking for a giant paper weight

Poor example of this boat and very inappropriately priced. There's one in the Great Lakes in bristol condition with a ton of upgrades listed for $175K. There's a Bayfield version of this boat in Florida in similar condition listed for $59K. Layout is innovative, but that's about all that can be said for this specific boat.

Overpriced, especially when you can buy a 1996 44' Gozzard, listed at S&J Yachts, for $164,900 that is in way better shape.

If the owners have let general maintenance go south like the exterior teak railings etc. I wouldn't touch that boat. for half the price. Pig in a poke comes to mind!

The teak condition is why you think the price is too high? LOL the price is too high because even in perfect condition this wouldn't be more than a $60,000 yacht.

pretty neglected vessel... it takes a lot of TLC and $ to get this refitted.....
considering the condition in todays saturated market i would offer around $30k.

Way too expensive !In comparison the gorgeous Tayana 48 is only $40.000 more.
, you can tell maintenance was slack, cheap anchors on a few feet of chain on one roller, lines are frayed ,not much instrumentation, no radar, no solar anything, to me it is a 69grand boat max.... if very sound.

Who ever takes this on, needs deep pockets. I have done a lot of painting, and varnishing over the years. To sort this out is going to take a very well equipped workshop, and lots of willing slaves.

Love the boat tours, so much better without your old girlfriend. She was a bit of a drag and you were totally carrying her, and I get a much better feel for the vessel shown. These are nice boats you exhibit, and deserve the attention to detail YOU give. Thumbs up bro
