As a young kid in the late 70s I was heavily into Bob James and just about anyone who ever played with him. I thought I'd heard them all until one day I went to see my Jamaican friend Carl Reid and his new stereo. Carl was a postman living with his mum and dad. Every penny he earned went on his music and his stereo. At the time, the best stereo I'd ever heard. Literally worth thousands, even back then. Listening to Heads, BJ3, Tequila Mockingbird by Ramsey Lewis. Ginseng Woman, Eric Gale. Earl Klugh 'Finger Paintings'. The day went on and on. Just his hand selected seperates stereo, a single sofa, two enormous Kef speakers and nothing else in the room. Hearing percussion touches and instruments I'd never even picked up on before. God bless you Carl. One of the coolest dudes I ever knew.
I have been a Bob James admirer for a very long long time and this excellent output is no exception to the many gems that Mr. James has unleashed. Matter of fact, I own a lot of his trendsetting musical recordings and what I truly appreciated about him is the great like-minded musical compatriots who participated in his final releases. Timeless masterpieces indeed.
Another popular spin from the heady Funk Alldayers at the Ritz, Manchester, England. Great music, great people, cool dancers and sharp clothes! 1977 - what a year that was for music.
good hidden trait of good jazz. we, those that appreciate it love the MUSIC. we don't so much get all into their personal (social) lives, we let em be and simply enjoy their gifts...
Everybody in Norway who was concious in the early eighties would have heard a snippet of this tune, as it was used during the closing title of KLM's "Fjærsynet" on NRK (The Norwegian equivalent to the BBC). It's what brought me here, 'cause I've allways been qurious where that closing title soundtrack came from. Now I know, and I'm thankfull. Thanks, Internett!
Heads, my 1st BJ cassette. January 1978 flew to Japan for my first Navy duty station. 747 audio track had "We're All Alone" which blew my 19 year old mind. A huge fan ever since. Thanks for the awesome music.
This album was my first exposure to Bob James, too. I was in college , and a good friend who was still in HS told me about him in the late ‘70s. Thanks JMF now of Halifax, NS.
Married to my first wife, late 1977 or early, early 78, we slept at night with the stereo on WNOK-FM. They played great music back then. This song would occasionally come on as "bumper music" right before a network national news feed. They only played about the first thirty seconds or so of it. They never told the name of the song or the artist, as so many dj's back then did. In Feb of 78, we moved 50 miles away and were out of range of WNOK as they had a very weak signal then. For forty-seven years, I have wondered what this song was. I searched various instrumentalist artists like Alan Parsons Project and many others, hoping to one day find this song before I pass on. Tonight, playing around once again, I recall that "Angela", the theme from the TV show "Taxi" was also used as bumper music by the late night dj's at WNOK in late 77 and early 78. I noted that some of Bob James' music had a resemblance to the mystery song I recalled so started going through his songs, one-by-one, until I found "Heads". It is good to have finally learned the name and artist connected to this song!
Thanks Mr.James.Bring back your kind of jazz music to this generation to bring back the needed diversity to the current music. Now i remember i have to order 2 Album from Amazon your Double Vision Album with Mr.Sanborn and One to One album with Earl Klugh.2 of your Albums which earned your Grammys.i will hold on these albums because they are collectibles. Are you the only jazz musician who earned THE GRAMMY ?

I must have missed this one when I was giving Bob a listen a few months back. Guess I need to dive back in to the catalog. Top track!
This song is such a sophisticated funky jam to the highest level. Thanks you for the music, Mr. James.
Real talk
This song made me and My band members call me super foot. Because I connected I was on point completely. My. Shit. Never bragged it's just me
I've listened to this tune a thousand times and it still gives me goosebumps.
I'm feeling you on that. Me too....
Still relevant.
Love bob James.
Son of Harry James.
Like a old friend.
From what I could find, Harry James is not Bob James' dad.
An often overlooked album by Bob. 2024 and it still sounds as fresh as the day it was released!
Bob... been with you since the beginning. This is a favorite, thanks for this!!
