RB has had immense understeer for a while now, and probably part of Max's really late breaking is to extend the weight transfer to the front of the car as much as possible to help with that.
That was my first thought as well. But you can't really compare low fuel with brand new softs prepared on an outlap vs a full tank of petrol and a standing start on mediums.
The McLaren looks scary quick out of the corners compared to the RB, but I think it's less to do with power and traction difference and more to do with the loss of revs in the corners due to understeer from the RB. It'd be cool to see the differences with gears and engine speed throughout as well.
in terms of lando beating max to pole I'd say the car definitely helped , look at the onboards and their steering input max was struggling alot to make the car turn

But then at the exit the front car will be on the gas earlier than the second car so the distance will increase again. Also, even with a constant time difference the difference in distance will be higher at higher speeds. Even if you take identical virtual laps, but the second lap starts a few tenths later, the time difference will stay the same but the distance between the cars will change depending on speed and acceleration/deceleration.

I.E. the weight of the car will shift upwards. Look at movies where an SUV flips upside down. But not so extreme. More weight will shift off the inside tyres and induce a slide. Edit. You want maximum grip on exit so you can bury the accelerator 😊
Nah I think Lando had the perfect window where there was not much wind. Also on the replay I saw max had to avoid a car on a downlap which caused him to brake early. Lando had a clear track. Watching this animation though; there is not much difference between line. Amazing. Lando was lit and there's not much skill gap between drivers.
