Fully understand the jealously thing. I’m U.K. based so our laws are restrictive AND we pay a premium. A standard CRKT Pilar is around £45 here which is well over $50. It’s painful seeing all the beautiful, interesting pieces that we can’t have.
I agree about the A-Team not holding up, and Magnum P.I. still checks out. I think my favorites were The Dukes of Hazard, The Fall Guy, and Simon & Simon. I’m too afraid to look back and see how they hold up to reality. So many jumps, I fear for the worst! Lol
Glad to see you are having fun modding. Sometimes changes don't work and it's mostly impractical, but soo fun. Used to custom build bmx bikes decades ago and remember how satisfying that was.
I love the Manix xl, carry it every day. In the process of making my own wood scales for it, maple one side, Ipe on the other. Modifying your knife makes it your own. Great video
Great video! I love the fact you are able to speak openly about your growth and evolving tastes. That says a lot about you. I see some of myself in your early opinions... I thought a Spyderco didn’t look like a “real” knife. Now I’m carrying a Tenacious all the time (first one). I also like plain black handles but am venturing out. Thanks for a cool look into the Bryan psyche.
Enjoyable video S/D. Living in the southern Finger Lakes. Been carrying a Benchmade Large Emissary 3.5 Axis Knife (3.45" Satin) 477 I picked up back in Dec 2016 before I found your channel Use to carry it only when I went hunting or fishing. Many people don't understand auto and assisted knives because they don't actually do real work. Hope the law is overturned at least for areas outside NYC
I get the auto thing. I carried one for about 10 years or so. The axis lock and compression lock manuals and the ball bearing flippers ruined me on carrying autos. I just really came to love and appreciate the beauty of high end manual actions. It became that I just find manual actions to be more fun and satisfying. I’ll always own, buy, and collect autos in my collection, but generally all that makes it in my pocket anymore are spyderco, Benchmade, or ZT manuals.
Andrew Kimmons In my experience, most decent modern manual actions easily hold their own against autos, especially a good flipper, but the same can easily apply to a good thumbstud setup. It’s actually gotten to the point that I’m annoyed that Autos and Balisongs are still generally restricted. Sure, it made some sense to be a bit scared of fast deploying knives when the most popular knives were slipjoints and backlocks, but now manual knives are honestly no slower to deploy than an auto, so why are they still restricted.
Good vid, thank you. I started in the opposite direction..large honkin blades, but now I find myself drifting to the smaller 3" and under blades for EDC. Who know's where it will go from there. Great and fun hobby with soooo many paths to go. :))
I heat anodized the thumb studs on my mini grip to a bronze color. And the pivot screw on my Ruike P801. It’s super easy you should try it! I literally just use an electric stove top.
Oh man, I am perfectly aligned with you and your views, past and present on Cold Steel! I now love larger knives to have in my collection, so Cold Steel definitely scratches that itch!
I like what you did to your smock (as well as other mods you mention). Really makes it a whole different knife. Did the same thing with micarta scales & a mirror edge for my bugout and it moved from being a very nice lightweight knife to something I just love to carry.
The A-Team doesn't hold up.....Classic. Cracked me up. My changes have been to carry more expensive knives then did say 5 years ago. I also carry bigger knives too. Nothing smaller then a 3 in blade and carry usually knives that cost $100-$300.
Unfortunately Rick loves frame locks and I'm left handed. I might end up with a Slippy but I really wish more companies would offer left handed frame locks even if it takes months to get one like CRK.
Dude, I’m all for dying scales, I have done a lot myself. I almost cried seeing the mini bugout, only because there are so few knives with white scales (plus the chances of me getting on is slim) but to each their own. I have modified some knives I wish I could undo.😢😂
When mentioning sprint/flash runs, surprised that you didn't mention the Boos Blades Mini Smoke, still got it? Love mine. And I agree ZT0562Ti has the one of the best sounds of any knife I own. Oh and another time you were wrong, this video, "I'm not universally loved" ...that can't be right... haha.
I don't know how you could be wrong about anything given that with them thiccc ass glasses, you should be able to see the future. hahaha J/k love your videos buddy
If a new knife comes out and you want to compare a tried and true standard against it, i think most of us can understand stock version without the ever evolving Bryan spec mods being a distraction.
Brian, is the Earth flat? Because you can obviously see over the horizon past the Kuiper belt with those mobile observatory styled glashes. Can't wait till these quarantines/martial law lite orders are lifted. One of my favorite knife content providers looks like an Antique Road Show onlooker trying to look like he doesn't know he's on camera.
Hey slicey you look kinda like Tom Segura. Ps your videos are probably my favorite out of every other knife guy/gal on TH-cam. Your badass man. Keep it up 👍
I will never buy a Cold Steel knife because of the San Mai bs that they did to the knife making industry in '16. I don't care what knife they come out with.
What about blade steels? Any notable changes there? It's funny our views of Cold Steel are so opposite. I loved the ads, but hated the product. I do have a couple of CS oddities - like the Chinese Waxwood whippin' stick, The Spike... and I used to have that 3-pound steel spike that was pointed on each end, but I think I left it in the sand and grasses of New Mexico when I (sadly) moved back east.
Slicey Dicey I learned most of what I know about that from a very informative iPhone app. There are deeper resources therein that I haven’t felt the urge to delve into. I’m a lot more verbally-oriented than I am technically-oriented, but I’ve been surprised at what I can learn when I stray outside my known strengths...
I still have that dirty secret that I just don't care for or like the look of Damascus steel. Sure, I can appreciate the effort that goes into it, but the look, meh.
Whoa, Whoa, Whoa The A-Team definitely holds up today. You're moving in the wrong direction FOOL if you think The A-Team is not standing the test of time. I pity the fool that don't repect B.A. Barackus
Fwiw no one cares about your glasses more than you do. So own it and say as little or as much as you want about them in the future. Is there a glasses frame review scene?
Unfortunately they have a bit of a point. Many people are much more scared of modern pocket knives than have any reason to be (I’ve seen tradesmen and labourers recoil from a flipper being deployed), but if you want to exponentially increase their irrational fear, deploy an OTF. So if you’re worried about terrifying sheeple, or you’re surrounded by/work with knife shy people, it would probably be prudent to avoid Auto/OTFs. This is also partly why I prefer thumbstuds over flippers, as it’s harder to “soft deploy” a flipper in a knife unfriendly environment.
William Burke I know! Unfortunately, the general public has never recovered from what could only be described as a systematic propaganda campaign in the ‘50-60s to demonise switchblades, which started in the press (calling them a “toy as dangerous as a revolver”), then making them the weapon of choice for gangsters, murderers and thugs in damn near every movie of the era. The end result; most people find anything other than an old slipjoint terrifying, and automatic knives of all types being banned or restricted almost everywhere.
So sad you felt you needed to ask for a like at the end, wouldn't people just like your videos anyway ? and don't worry about your kitchen. I'd give this video three likes if they allowed it.
There is only one way to never make a mistake/never do anything wrong, and that is to never do anything! We live, we learn, hopefully we grow.

I love it too! Definitely a pimp knife. And that's sick with scales idea, I wanna get my hands on some flytanium titanium scales for it
That's a beast of a knife.

42 minutes of guys welding shit onto a fan and bad jokes and even worse shots.

GPKnives has the FRN version of the Rex45 Native the last time I looked. And Black Wolf Suppliers has the G10 version less than 48 hours ago.
love that spyderco smock sweet knife
The SBR is great. I got to handle one at a local knife shop, but I fell in love with the Protech/Strider PT. In the end I went with the PT.
We all evolve, nothing wrong with that.
I wasn’t really a fan of Hinderer, until I saw the Vintage Series XM-18. The 3” spear point is one of my grail knives.

Hmm on second thought, perhaps the mini smoke isn't a flash run or whatever... nevermind.
Oh yeah! Forgot that one lol. Still have it.
“Brian-spec” is a cool term. Wait til they eventually come out with “Brian-mascus” - then you’ve really arrived!
*Bryan ;)
‘Doh! 🤦♂️ (sorry) 😁
Great video. Ever looking to part with that Manix 2 XL, let me know lol.
It’s not mine yet and he wants to move it. Shoot me an email.

Hahaha. Only two minutes.
If a new knife comes out and you want to compare a tried and true standard against it, i think most of us can understand stock version without the ever evolving Bryan spec mods being a distraction.
Ooh. Think they will ever make a Mini Manix?
Or rather, a Native with the bb lock😁
Mmmh...how do you go from contacts to glasses? I have a stigmatism when I take off my lenses.
Doesn’t seem to bother me. I can see better up close with my glasses and a bit better far away with the contacts.

11:11 anniversary ? LMAO
What is our future outcome of all this Brian since your glasses can see into the future? 😉👍🍻 Stay safe, man. Cheers.
When they're that thick you call'em glashes. Because they touch his eye lashes.
Im looking to get my first Manix. Is it worth it??
Yes
You need to do a full Lynn Thompson edc carry some time
Hmm... I have enough now. Already missed his birthday for a tribute though.
@@SliceyDicey You can never have enough knives to do a Lynn Thompson EDC😕 Plus you'd also have to include a gun or two😖
You don't have to lie bro. We know you dont got any pants on😂 we dont care, I dont either

🤭 Watching knife reviews with no pants on? 🤫🙄😆
I will never buy a Cold Steel knife because of the San Mai bs that they did to the knife making industry in '16. I don't care what knife they come out with.
Again! Knife rights will take donations and help lift some silly knife laws 👍🏽❤️
No they won't. No more than the NRA helps gun owners
