That woman in 1976 was wearing a bulletproof jacket under her dress because the song was about the freedom of cyprus and Turkey was mad about it and threatened her but Eurovision wouldnt provide any kind of protection. Gladly nothing happened that night

@@bigkevreacts There were clear threats that if she actually decides to perform that would be the last of her, as a hitman will be waiting to shoot her... EBU the organizer advised her not to sing but she not performing simply was not an option..
The song is a miroloi ( a mourning of lost lives) song, about the events of 1974 when Turkey invaded Cyprus.

The singer with the greatest voice, who took part in Eurovision representing Greece, was Marinella. The first one in 1974. The song didn't help her vocal abilities to be shown.
Other great voices and highly accomplished singers were:
Anna Vissi, Mariza Koch, Sophia Vossou, Kaiti Garbi, Helena Paparizou and Sakis Rouvas.
    Probably in that order too.
I forgot to mention Elpida and maybe Tania Tsanaklidou as well. Also one could propose Pascalis and Yianna Terzi.
Yiannis Dimitras also had a huge voice and at the same time a very sentimental one.
But he is not well known in Greece.
He collaborated with Manos Hatzidakis in an album. Hatzidakis is arguably the most important composer in Greece. The composer of the song of the film "Never on Sunday". Hatzidakis won an Oscar for that song in 1961. He didn't show to receive his trophy, and later renounced it !
He is, at least, one of the three more important composers. The others being Mikis Theodorakis (Zorba composer) and Vasilis Tsitsanis.
Here is Hatzidakis not showing to receive his Oscar trophy:

I really like a lot of the Greek songs in the 90s. It took me a while to get into them but they are just so unique with beautiful ethnic instruments. Most people would say the 2000s is Greece’s best period but I personally don’t really like the generic English pop songs that they sent in that era compared to the 90s.

Yeah I liked a lot of their lower ranked songs more than some of the top ones.

@2:53 You probably didnt notice 1980 and 2006 are the same woman (Anna Vissi) she is a really big star in Greece and neighbouring countries. @14:06 I am reading another singer covered this song and it charted No 3 in the US Billboard Hot Dance Radio Airplay. I think you might heard it in that way as an American. @20:05 Victor is only 16 years old (minimal age to enter eurovision) and wrote and produced the song himself. Too bad for him he didnt qualify, I think he was still a bit too young for a big stage like this.

Yeah thanks for pointing those out. I didn't notice it was the same artist. 26 years is a big gap 😀

In 2011 the song was 3rd in the Televoters.
And yes almost everybody thought that the Rap part (Stereo Mike) shouldn't be there at all.

the ''Die for you'' singer is Helena Paparizoy and she is the same as the 2005 song ''My number one'' that went 1st.

The 1993 entry has actually a record for the contest. For almost a whole minute, the camera focused entirely on Garbí without moving an inch from her face, something that was never done before or since.

2023 is considered as one of the most "unlucky" choices of all time for Greece.
The only thing that could make you "forgive" the song and the performer, it is that he was only 16 and he wrote the song when he was 14 !
There was even some short of a scandal about this entrance. There were 3 songs to be chosen from. One of them being "Liar" sung by Melissa Mantzoukis. The song wasn't chosen. It will represent Cyprus in this year (2024) sung by 17 year old Silia Kapsis.
The scandal wasn't so much about this song (What they Say) was chosen over "Liar". The thing is that the young guy (Victor Vernicos) is related to the Vernicos ship owners family. Victor stated that his connection with this, very rich family, is his aunt with whom he rarely speaks over the telephone. He might be true, but the "shadow" still remains ...

The greatest, vocally, song ever sent in Eurovision was "Anixi" (Meaning Spring, as in the Season). It was sung by Sophia Vossou. The Saxophone player was TERRIBLE though. The original Saxophone player got sick and stayed in Greece. They found one in Italy to replace him, but he didn't manage to do it. I don't remember why now. Finally there was THIS Saxophone player who seems doesn't know ANYTHING. The performance in Eurovision was the following: th-cam.com/video/5z7aB-YHv-E/w-d-xo.htmlsi=x4z_E0hb-UFQK1ZT

In 2006 it was not a male singer. It was Anna Vissi, one of the greatest mega stars in Greece. She was alone on stage too. So you messed it a little bit there. The song, though, was not much, and she was sick in that performance. She even had 2 injections of Cortisone in order for her to sing.
She was also the 1980 representative. She didn't do well. The song was not there and ... well.

2022 didn't fail to qualify as you said. It was 8th. I'd probably agree with what you said about it, though.

You skipped 2018. Yianna Terzi. "Oniro mou". Didn't qualify for the Final. Everybody in Greece thought this was a very good (quality) song. Something went wrong with the staging of it. Somehow the Organizers (Lisbon, Portugal) didn't do what there was supposed to be done. There was even an idea for the song to be repeated one more time, but it didn't went through. I don't know why.

Twofold. Greece skipped a few years at one point and a few of the songs kept my video completely blocked worldwide so I had to trim them out in order for anyone to see it.
