As a hindi film lover from Pakistan, it seems that most big bollywood films don't care if we watch their films or not at this point (even though we grew up watching the same things you all did). Even if the hate mongering isn't as obvious as it is in Fighter, theres always a veil of mistrust, anger and hate towards Pakistan and its really just become the norm. Its a far cry from the time where films like Veer-Zara were made and I suspect that if something like that was even attempted now it might be branded as anti-nationalist.
It's your bad luck ,your nation is ruled by few rouge army men and land lords,ex PM Imran Khan admited Pakistan army trained Taliban and Pakistan has 50 terrorist organisations in his interview during US visit. And everyone hates such rogue nation.
Yeah why should Bollywood care if u watch/like our movies or not? For heaven sake u have ur own god damn "movie industry" (atleast I suppose u guys have)...make the movies that u wanna watch n admire....we never complain abt any of your movies as no one really knows what kinda crap u guys make there 😂😂 so STFU!!
Because these movies will be the main money spinners in Bollywood for the next 5 years at least. Last year cemented that audiences don’t want anything more than mindless adrenaline fuels action movies, and Bollywood will oblige. For critics like Sucharita, you can’t give in but you can’t give up either.
@@ItsMe_Sam i exactly don't know what will they show when a movie is based on pulwamaa attack and balakot Air strike....if this was top gun...we would have witnessed a diff reaction from you all...bt sadly this is an Indian movie...and mindless action??? Why is Deepika doing these senseless flicks at this stage of her career? She has done some meaningful roles and should be moving gracefully towards memorable cinema. Frankly, I'm sick of seeing (though i haven't watched any) Deepika and Anil kapoor in anything and everything.
Why can't Bollywood get Pakistani muslims right? We are not made from the Lucknow cloth. Don't wear kaajal, say janaab or wear stupid topis. Research in Bollywood is zero.
@@rezasaid9622 they live in their own bollywood bubble. According to them research is for documentaries. Anyway, anyone with even half a mind is going to avoid such nonsensical cinema.
The same goes for Lollywood as well I have seen quite a lot of pak movies and all of them show Indians like we wear dhoti and are always applying tikka on forehead and many absurd dialogues also the anti india story in parvaaz e Junnon was shit in every way possible 😅
Watching Deepika regress in terms of acting choices right in front of my eyes is so fascinating. Like I get the occasional Pathaan because its SRK. But then there is Jawan, now this. And Singham 3 later. This is the trajectory she is going on after having proved thst she can act well but just chooses these projects.
Jawaan was Deepika's film?? Jawaan wasn't Deepika's film she just did a cameo ( for free ). Just like Salman has done in Pathaan. Deepika's role in Pathaan was praised by audiences and as well as critics. And I think you haven't watched Fighter yet. Her role is equally important as Hrithik's role. And I think you don't know that Kareena Kapoor is playing a lead role in Singham 3 and Deepika Padukone is doing a cameo like Ranveer and Akshay. Actually Rohit Shetty is going to announce his next project ( female cop film ) with Deepika just like he announced Sooryavanshi in Simba.
I don't know what to tell you, but these movies are not about her, she might get the odd nomination. But the movies, be it Fighter, Pathaan are essentially not about her. They will give her a 'badass scene' like the Endgame Female Superhero Sequence, but that doesn't mean shit, if her character is not central to the story, she exists as a prop (be sexy, and alluring, but strong) to the main guy. Look at the work Alia is choosing, she does the occasional Brahmastra too, but it is clear that she is choosing projects which highlight her and allows her to at least acting skill. @@Nodles-z1t

A phenomenally written review as always. At a time where box office numbers are shoved in our faces, I really appreciate someone who is willing to have a nuanced take on why a film like this (despite great production value and stars) can be so exhausting. Because gurll, I've been feeling the same. I'm sick of Bollywood making these "billboard movies". It feels more like an ad for a good film rather than being an actual good film.
Miss Meghana, I dont know your age but I think you definitely seem to be Gen Z kid, who didnt at all see the rich patriotic movies like Tiranga, Karma, Border, Pukar, The Legend of Bhagath Singh, Shershaah , Fighter..............and the list is endless.........the common thread linking all of these movies is the emotion which is LOVE FOR THE NATION, which happens to be the core and the strength of such movies which need to be portrayed in a dramatized way, replete with punch dialogues and lot of emotions pour in, only then it makes a spectacle to the eyes and resonating with your patriotic feeling.................if you tone down even a bit on this in this particular genre of movie just to be realistic, you wont really get that "LOVE FOR MY COUNTRY" FEELING.............anyways why am I arguing with your generation..............talk to us who have seen such gems.
Who's to blame for the lack of unique movies-filmmakers or viewers? It's like a dance of disappointment. Filmmakers make great movies, but they flop because they're judged by the coin they collect, not the tales they tell. And then, us viewers, reluctant to take risks, opt for the sure thing. So, maybe it's mostly on us viewers, the champions of safe choices. Yet, this movie isn't bad-packed with emotions, sweet VFX, and a medley of everything. We just need to break free from the sequel shackles!
Sucharita going overboard with alliterations 😂❤ “formless film field filled with frightening number of fan favourite movie stars fawning over each other…” absolute poetry 😂🤌🏽🤌🏽
As a Pakistani and a avid lover of Hindi cinema, i have grown up watching their films and dancing on Bollywood songs on weddings. But then such movies ruin the entire experience. I really was looking forward to watch this film when the initial promotional material was launched but later when the entire trailer released with hateful dialogues i gave up the idea🥺. I am actually glad they banned the release in UAE. The problem is that such injection of anti Pakistan narratives in Bollywood on such frequent basis specially in times of peace isn’t doing any service to the fans or the cinema itself. If topgun can give you great action sequences and a thrilling storyline without naming the enemy, why can’t bollywood pull off the same! Truly disappointed
Also.. I believe you have created a new genre of critically analysing movies or mayber there already was one I am just not aware.. I love how you treat cinema as a way of reflecting on the globar affairs, our collective experiences as a race (human race) at a particular juncture in time (now), and how you go beyond the technical aspects to uncover the narrative and how it is being shaped or is shaping in some way the socio-political economic and cultural landscape.. Good Job Sucharita! Your reviews remind me of the critical essays I wrote back in college on classical and contemporary pieces of literature. This again reiterates that how the most powerful tool of reflecting and forming our conscience is story telling and cinema is indeed the most powerful medium of storytelling of our times. Kudos
It's just heartbreaking to see that humanity in this world is already on a nose dive yet there are some people who just want to encash the hatred between two neighbouring countries who are exactly like each other. We can do so much good for the world if we just unite so much potential yet we are so divided. Sad really. Good review @sucharita!
I say this as an avid movie goer, Sucharita, that your reviews never dwell into the aspect of filmmaking itself. You don't mention anywhere the technical brilliance of Fighter but just contains the movie in a box of your political/personal viewpoint. For every Fighter, there is a Haider. For every Kerela Story, there is a Firaaq. Cinema is about telling stories from different viewpoints, but analyzing them from a fixed mindset seldom does the job if you are being a critic.
I'm not sure you saw the same review that I did. She talks about the lack of structure, coherence, story arcs within the first 30 seconds of the review. The VFX isn't anything to write home about tbh. The trailer shots themeselves looked inferior, to say the least. Moreover, when it comes to movies like Fighter or Animal etc, any kind of filmmaking achievement has to take a backseat to the overtly jingoistic/ misogynistic message that they convey. Movies are a form of art and they influence and are influenced by the society as a whole. That conversation needs to be had prominently. I say this as an avid movie goer, her review is absolutely spot on.
@@yashsrivastava7518 with all due respect, her job as a critic is to study the movie based on its storytelling and technical aspect. That's all my point. We have seen Middle East bashing by some of the most prominent filmmakers in the West. Martin Scorsese was judged in his early days for glorifying violence. What I understand from his and your opinion, my brother, is that you are asking a storyteller to not tell a story, because it does not tick your preferred boxes of storytelling. There will always be all kinds of stories - whether one hates them or loves them. But a film critic should rise above his/her personal politics. I really don't see a difference between Sucharita bashing Fighter for its supposed jingoism and Pahlaj Nihlani's futile attempts to censor the F out of Udta Punjab. Its time these critics leave the movies alone. It just feels like they are addicted to their echo chambers.
Thank you for this unfiltered review! I thought was it just me feeling helpless in the overall state of this world and we do not need more hate to be pumped in
Watched it in the movie theatre and I enjoyed it a lot. Indian VFX has come a long way and I appreciate such movies. More movies like these need to be produced. Looking forward to Operation Valentine and Skyforce, hoping we get to see more aerial scenes. 🔥🔥
I feel like your review was way too critical over every detail, but I still applaud you for avoiding the pointless Top Gun comparisons that many like Anupama Chopra fell into.
"way too critical over every detail???" she is a film critic who is critiquing a film where there is ample room for critiquing. And the Top Gun comparison isn't pointless. Every Air Force movie is inspired by TG. Fighter itself has so many scenes and storylines literally lifted from TG. Sucharita didn't have to state the obvious.
Yeah agreed. She didn't have to state the obvious TG comparison which is why i was impressed lol. Most critics are going overboard with TG comparisons to the point that trying to do anything different becomes a sin. And about the critical over minor details part, well they are minor. So while she has the right to focus on them, I think it detracts from a wider view of what the film was like.
Then why you don't go to watch Merry Christmas? Why 12th fail can't do 100 Cr... These are the movies that work at the box office.. At least they're trying something new and not serving anything without any efforts like gutter 2 😂
@@pranaypriya5354 I doubt you heard the reviewer speak before jumping to conclusions. This is exactly how an average Indian views a movie... Applaud for 6 pack hero, applaud when villian dies and bigger applause for the crores only producer is going to count.
👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 Sucharita kudos for the honesty with which you review films! You are not alone to think the way you do about this movie. The commercialism and the propaganda for war and hatred displayed in this film is so apparent. Very disappointed in the makers of this movie as well as some of our favorite stars like Deepika, Hrithik and Anil. We need to promote peace and love/friendship and NOT war and hatred.
I'm so with you Sucharita wrt to the repetitive & magnanimous amounts of nationalism, patriotism displayed in our movies(not against either but not in agreement with the amount we are injected with through every other film). Given the current scenario, it seems everyone is trying extremely hard to appease said scenario and the audience who expects the same. Lately, imagination in Bollywood mainstream cinema seems to have run away to a distant land from which its return looks highly unlikely(especially for the foreseeable future).
Don’t understand why showing pakistan in bad light hurts sentiments of these so called pseudo liberals ? it has been proved multiple times that pakistani establishment is behind major terror attacks in india, but still people like you want pakistani establishment in movies to be shown in good light, what do you expect? pakistan to win and india to lose? The movie is a through and through entertainer and honestly proud to see a slick movie that’s very well presented. Let’s maybe not try to be too critical all the time? ❤
So true, you spoke my mind, I just rejected these thoughts as fighter was "so called entertainer" but even sub plots don't work, ashutosh rana working in airline industry and not allowing his daughter to become an air force pilot is the dumbest writing ever
As a Pakistani I have to applaud you for this review!!! This was a complete piece of propaganda probably one of the worst ones to come out of Bollywood. Hritikh has definitely lost a lot of fans on this side of the border with this utterly distasteful excuse of a film.
"the formless film field is filled with the frightening number of fan favorites movie stars fawning all over each other pretending to bring you big entertainment but eventually only interested in the cartoonish money symbols flying around on the viewer's head" Damn !!!!! ❤
No Sucharita.. It's not just you. It's me too. It's our entire generation. The only difference is none of us are bothered to produce something like the Wasteland out of the dispair we feel over the state of the affairs of our times.. instead we're busy producing such angry and enraging content echoing what is being thrown at us from all corners.. also capitalism.. Paisa toh banana hi hai
you should have known this while going all praises for Pathaan, which had no story and just a collection of fan-service moments. And then you had a problem with 12th fail too which had no background chimes to amplify emotions, no overacting, no superhero figures. But you liked a completely caricaturish portrayal of cultures in Rocky rani ki prem kahaani, which atleast not a single Bengali I know could relate to (not sure about new-money Delhi-ites they tried to portray through rocky)
It is a good movie! I do not agree with this review but anyways you have your opinion. Movies are supposed to be entertaining and this one definitely enetertains throughout.
I'll never understand making a Top Gun movie with fake CGI planes and bad physics given that real ariel photography and stunts was the big draw of Maverick.
Indian film makers don't have budgets nor technical skills to produce a scene let alone most movie with practical effects and stunts. Most general audiences seem to like this movie. 😅
Top Gun Mavrick was made at the budget of nearly 1200+ Crores while Fighter is less than 1/4 of Top Gun Mavrick's Budget. secondly the writer of Top Gun trained about Fighter Jets and took 15 months just for that training + Tom Cruise is a certified Pilot. First things first where is the budget?
@@sudevsen just because we don't have budget we should not make it. We should make it with what we have? If we do that, when we get the budget we will be ready to make a perfect one. Look at China. They only did it when they got the budget. But even after getting the budget their movies are shit (some are above average though). Even the CGI of a 200 million dollar budgetted Chinese movie is either worse or equal to a 20 million dollar budgetted Indian movie.
Hi Sucharita, it's very refreshing to see such reviews where you get unbiased opinion! These days it's a rarity to see the least. I am very glad that I found you on TH-cam. May be coz ur opinion reflects mine as well. It is very sad that when on one hand people blame Bollywood for not producing good movies, they do not actually give the good movies the love they deserve and I guess that is why competent actors like Hrithik and Deepika have to resort to such mindless capers! Anyway kudos to you girl and wish you all the success ❤❤❤
I watched a lot of mAlE reviewers how Fighter portrayed a woman officer's journey. How the movie is not all jingoism but rationally written coherent piece only with "bits" of commercial tropes that should be excused. It's almost they were desperate marketing interns trying to sell us the movie somehow. Thanks to you, I wont be second guessing shit!
Bhardawaj Ranjan and many other reviewers on youtube have liked the film as well. And the public at large have definitely loved it. I suggest you give it a shot. It's not a perfect movie but it's not so bad.
All good points. All valid. Somehow you missed the following: 1. Huge improvements in vfx quality specially in an Indian movie. 2. Hrithik’s acting. Gotta hand him creds for couple of emotional scenes. 3. An attempt at all at showcasing Indian Air Force. 4. Fabulous acting by minni’s mom n dad and also Sanjeeda. Wish I cuddled say the same for Karan Grover 😬 I agree to all of your points, it’s jingoistic for no reason. Cheers
Alliterations aside, what a effin awesome review! So so impressed, the formless form field fff is so relevant and it’s unfortunately infiltrated into OTT as well.
So much respect for you and your beliefs! It's been heartbreaking seeing so many indian people I previously followed gradually succumb to/ endorse fascist and nationalist ideologies.
Now go re-watch her Pathaan review (same director, shittier movie), and marvel at the hypocrisy. PS Watch out for all the commenters from Pakistan who obviously agree with the review.
"Formless film field is filled with frightening number of fan favourites movie stars fawning all over each other. " Having too much fun with alliteration, aren't you!
Completely disagree Sucharita. Seems like u went in with a particular mood and hence ur review. When u saw the trailer had nationalistic jingoism, why would u complain abt it in ur review?? And tbh the nationalistic jingoism moments don't last beyond a few seconds in the movie each time (no way comparable to gadar). The movie gets on with the story right from scene 1 and is completely focussed on it throught out. Not one unnecessary scene. The story flows with its nice little twists and turns while being genuinely invested in every character's (except sukhi's and the villain) arc. The villain is one tone no doubt and that's a fault. There should have been a back story to him. But this doesn't hurt the movie because the aerial combat sequences are so good to watch. They had the vision to not look like TG and choreographed it in a unique way, even if unreal but yet done with conviction. The film is pretty well rooted emotionally too. Hrithik's eyes doing all the acting (the jet he is in becomes irrelevant) during the interval block scene is such a 💔 Movies made for masses often look dishonest, Fighter is not one of them. Genuine attempt to bring together a story, an engaging screenplay with characters u care for and a mega scale audio-visual experience.
Well, anil kapoor in one dialogue clearly mentions that the war us against terrorism. Well also, the pak army, isi and terrorism go hand in hand, cant deny that😊

Hrithik looks old in the movie, an airforce pilot are selected very young, by 22 years. Top cruise played in top gun when he was very young and looked dashing, in marverick they are not showing him as a young guy. Hrithik looks like a 45 years old , and flying a plane at that age. Same with Deepika, she looks old too be airforce captain or pilot.
Hi Sucharita, I have been following your channel for a while now. I do enjoy your reviews and some of your recommendations have definitely helped me enjoy movies that I would not have noticed. However, I would like to point out that your mention of Gunjan Saxena based on events that were true is not entirely accurate. In interviews and articles she has said that there was no discrimination at organizational level against her. Although, officers were sceptic if she was capable enough to function as an airforce pilot just because they were unsure. The movie, very disappointingly made the theme of gender discrimination as the main issue. I would ask you please to not refer the "reality" of movies especially those made by Dharma.
Nah...just stop being "cool" & pretentious. This was a movie done with conviction. It gets everything right. It touches you at the right moments in the right measure without being jingoistic or preachy & it entertains while being technically spectacular. Characters are likeable and has a journey of their own. A must watch experience at theatres. I repeat, its must watch for the visuals alone. And I can see most of the people in the comment section hasn't even watched the movie yet & you are gonna regret about your prejudices by missing this movie.
the movie is not bad , infact its like below than average .like pathan and jawan .(yes the real terrorist attacked on pathankot was concotted by Pakistani based terrorist groups, so even if thats your mistake , it is not wrong to call out their sins , thats not jingoism but common sense and geopilitical awareness ) ..its clear they are selling patrotism ..but patrotism does not sell if story is bad like that of Akshay Kumar and John Abraham's movies ...however fighter does not feel anything .its like that bunch of medicore movies ..I dont like Pathan as well .let me correct you , they are not hyper nationnalistic movies , they are hyper hero centric movies ..most of time people grew bore of patriortic and nationalistic movies ...however they are stil made so that hero can justify his violent action ..nationalism in backdrop provides justification to hyper hero centric stories
Trust Miss Tyagi to call a spade a freaking spade. Thank you for this review. And it is truly disappointing how someone like Hrithik Roshan, an actor who has gotten so much love from Pakistan, has made a movie that is so anti-Pakistan without even being subtle and say shit like Indian Occupied Pakistan. And shame on the director. It is movies like these that further add fuel to the already existing tension between the two countries.
Strings together a semblance of sustained screenplay that says something is a lesson in alliteration if there ever was one. Followed by the Formless Film Field is filled with a frigthening number of filmstars fawning over....
Spot on. Those post rationalising dialogues feel almost bunged in post trailer release reactions. Taran Adarsh had the audacity to say ".... it steers away from blatant jingoism, yet makes a solid statement as the drama unfolds" - I can't even.
The moment the Muslim guy in Hrithik’s squad said,”Bhai naye dost ke haath se drink nahi piyoge?”,or something along those lines, I went,”They’re gonna kill this mf, aren’t they?”
When films like fighter animal pathan are the biggest films for the year you know Bollywood has become about buisness and box office not cinema and art
Sucharita toh phir Sucharita hai! Well articulated. Been a huge Deepika fan since the beginning and SO disappointed. How could she be part of such a hate mongering movie.
I watched the film today and this review does not really do justice to the good aspects of the film. Yes, the song, dance, product placement and portrayal of some Pakistani characters are cringy but overall it is enjoyable and engaging. Do not go by this review, go and watch it in a theater.
The main tagline of your video may be appropriate but beg to differ with you at many points. Had more expectations from you Sucharita and sad but you failed to highlight some very crucial positive aspects of the movie like acting of the main characters, attention given to the details related to Air Force, and the quality of the vfx at some points.
Kindly refrain from reviewing films and review the drugs you're on instead. Will be much more informative and better use of time for those who are interested.
You are a good reviewer and I enjoy your reviews.. but please don't take away from the good work of actors like HR, DP and AK.. I found it better than Pathaan
The review of Pathan and Fighter are contradictory and terribly inconsistent. Both of which are similar type of movies. An obvious sign of ethical dishonesty and favouritism hidden behind carefully constructed linguistic pattern overridden with heavy use of unconventional vocabularies. Please,be Smarter than this. Just because a particular witty khan is popular among a certain political fraction of self proclaimed movie critics, doesn’t mean that every garbage he makes has to be protected with sugarcoating & manipulative linguistic skill.
Usually I find sucharitas reviews amazing.. especially when it is vanga films.. but recently I feel she is biased towards shahrukh khan... She raved about pathan and jawan a lot. However, the films were horrible to say the least .. She bashed tiger 3 which was a very good entertainer I feel.. not one of the best films when it comes to craft.. but way better than pathan and jawan.. And fighter is amazing.. genuinely amazing!!!

Its a far cry from the time where films like Veer-Zara were made and I suspect that if something like that was even attempted now it might be branded as anti-nationalist.
I'm sorry but it's a result of 2008 attack whether you feel Pakistan has a hand in it or not. Every Indian does believe that Pakistan did.
It's your bad luck ,your nation is ruled by few rouge army men and land lords,ex PM Imran Khan admited Pakistan army trained Taliban and Pakistan has 50 terrorist organisations in his interview during US visit. And everyone hates such rogue nation.

Quote of the Day: “Even when they’re making wrong decisions, somehow it’s still Pakistan’s fault.”

Being Indian I agree
Kudos
thank you Maliha :)
Muslim will never support hindu
Clearly you haven't watched the movie
I say this as an avid movie goer, Sucharita, that your reviews never dwell into the aspect of filmmaking itself. You don't mention anywhere the technical brilliance of Fighter but just contains the movie in a box of your political/personal viewpoint.
For every Fighter, there is a Haider. For every Kerela Story, there is a Firaaq. Cinema is about telling stories from different viewpoints, but analyzing them from a fixed mindset seldom does the job if you are being a critic.
It's a mid movie on the technical aspect as well.
Well said
I'm not sure you saw the same review that I did.

She's not a good reviewer. She's biased and a man hater.she uses feminism to hate on men and earn brownie points
I don't understand why is she so salty. Aj tak isko koi movie pasand nahi aai.
Why so much sympathy for Pakistan , hoping you would have the same sympathy for the lives lost in Pulwama attack
its called being a human 🤗
@@BlackSheep101-t1s This is not humanity brother, this is peak narcissism
We don't care about Pakistan fans not watching the Bollywood movies
Its a good movie and I feel u r too critical and biased in ur review
Usually I find sucharitas reviews amazing.. especially when it is vanga films.. but recently I feel she is biased towards shahrukh khan...
She raved about pathan and jawan a lot. However, the films were horrible to say the least ..
She bashed tiger 3 which was a very good entertainer I feel.. not one of the best films when it comes to craft.. but way better than pathan and jawan..
And fighter is amazing.. genuinely amazing!!!
Totally agreed with you she is biased
