So many people forget about this minor hit, because their big hit so overshadowed it. You'll definitely want to react to it. It's called "One Fine Morning". You'll be blown away.
This was a Toronto horn band put together around the same time as Blood Sweat and Tears, and Chicago. The alto sax player was Howard Shore, who moved to New York to work with another Torontonian, Lorne Michaels, who hired him as the musical director of Saturday Night Live for 5 years. Then he became a big movie soundtrack guy responsible for many movies including The Lord of the Rings, and The Hobbit movies.
@@ChasBeauregarde I think Paul was a prominent member of the band when Shore was musical director. Looking it up, they were both there from 1975-1980. There were skits with Howard Shore and his All Nurse Band, and his All Bee Band, and he came up with the name Blues Brothers. You can see Paul playing as part of the original Blues Brothers skit on SNL. Before moving to N.Y., Shaffer was musical director of the Toronto production of Godspell, which included Gilda Radner, Martin Short, Eugene Levy, Andrea Martin, Victor Garber, and Howard Shore.
Lighthouse was a Canadian band in the early 70ies, Jazz-Rock sound like Chicago or Blood, Sweat and Tears. Their biggest hit, even in the US Billboard charts was "One fine morning" in 1972.
Hah, I was thinking about Lighthouse earlier to day. Now it was their song "One fine morning" but still. Close enough. It's beach music (or at least for sitting in the backyard wishing you were at the beach).
Hi JP. DP from UK. My Life Is Good when you play music like this. Lighthouse are completely unknown in the UK, but I've delved thanks to recommendations on another channel. As a Chicago and Blood Sweat & Tears fan, I love this stuff. Also, this track has a Randy Newman vibe to it (hence my song ref My Life Is Good).
One of my many recommendations for J over the last few years and as I listened to this in the bath I thought Doh this is way too sweet! it needs some Randy Newman under and overtone to redress the vibe. I'd love Christmas in Cape Town or Real Emotional Girl too, to offer the channel a trio of tunes that reflect his styles. It'll never happen. Sail Away LP? Possibly! Have a good weekend London friend. City are playing Watford... Would love to hop on a train to see it. Guess what tho - it'll never happen either!
That sounded familiar, perhaps it played on WLS Chicago radio maybe. I do remember it being name dropped on Chicago and Blood Sweat and Tears reactions. Good to hear it and semi remember it. A summer song in the winter, fine by me.
Howard Shore rang a bell with me. I remembered “Howard Shore and his all nurse band” in the early days of SNL. I guess it was the same guy. He turned into a big soundtrack writer later on. Naked Lunch and Ed Wood were among his credits but he did a few blockbusters too, like Silence of the Lambs and Philadelphia.
Members of Canadian Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, Cdn Song Writers Hall of Fame and star on Canada Walk of Fame. They are still playing. Not all original members as some half passed on.
I remember actually sitting on a beach towel with my radio, soaking up the rays in our backyard, when this song came on... So of course it became my favorite tune of the summer! ;-]
THIS is one of these tunes that are spoofy, funny, light and energetic. No heavy stuff, deep and thoughtful lyrics... just plain ol' fun stuff that brings a bit of light on your gloomy day. I like to listen to that when I'm passing my vacuum throughout the house. 😁 On another level, it would be great if you reacted to "Evie" by Stevie Wright, which is quite "heavy stuff with deep and thoughtful lyrics". 😉 And, sadly, it does not seem that well known on this side of the Pacific.
Yeah. One Fine Morning is the one that really warrants a reaction video. Sunny Days is pretty good. Please do One Fine Morning . I bought that album. Be sure it's the album version.
The year of its release, this single was on the radio all the time, every day for what seemed the entire Summer. Elton John was one of the few musicians who could knock this hit off the airwaves. What a fun Summer that was!
A fun summer song. Growing up in Toronto at the time, it was played a lot on the radio and was a hit for them, though not their biggest. As so many have mentioned, definitely check out their smash hit "One Fine Morning".
Hey JP….thanks for the Canadian content. A great band from the late 60’s-early 70’s. Many great tunes. Fun fact, the drummer from this band (Skipp) was the uncle of the drummer from my old band. Thanks for the nostalgia.😎🎶🎸🇨🇦
Thanks for this bit of sunshine. Yes ... One Fine Morning is their "hit" and well worth the listen. Others are 1849 for the story and Hats Off To The Stranger for its power.
quite loved this song in the day. also 'One fine morning' was a great little tune. Hey Justin, when are you going to do a full Lennon album? Like starting with 'POB' and then reacting to, as Lennon called 'Imagine', POB with sugar. You've done Macca, time for Johnny, no?
This one is forgettable - is more like something you would hear on Dick Clark's American Bandstand at the time. Their other title song "One Fine Morning" is more iconic, my local FM rock station used to play the opening for their daily news segment.
Lighweight, bluesy number, but far too cheesy for me. We seem to have a glut of unheard of canadian bands at the mo. And listening to this, and the previous others, it seems obvious why they're largly unknown. That or, as we'll likely hear, they're legends in their own town, ha. * Now, for another sun related ditty, I'd give 'Everyday Sunshine' a play, by Fishbone. Hi energy, rock, funk metal, great stuff. ES, is off their album, The Reality of My Surroundings. Deffo one for the playlist.

One of my favourite songs of all time. One Fine Morning is one of the happiest, most uplifting songs out there. And the arrangement...brilliant!
Grew up in Toronto so I had the good fortune of seeing Lighthouse perform many times. They were always amazing!
Suggestion: "One Fine Morning"

I didn't know any of that. Great tune from the 70s esp on a nicer summer day.
Thx for that, Lord, you have a hobbit of spewing out great info.
I did not know that Howard Shore is one of us! His movie scores are everywhere. Thanks for the tidbit!
Pretty impressive credentials. Was his SNL director after Paul Schaefer? I seem to remember Paul as musical director from early on.

Anything can happen, and I think Justin would really like some Randy Newman. @@HippoYnYGlaw

Cool, Lighthouse is a Canadian band and had a few hits at least in Canada. "One Fine Morning" is a must, JP! Thank You.

Lighthouse was essentially Canada's Chicago. Check out One Fine Morning, their greatest hit.
Heard this a lot on the Big 8, CKLW, Detroit/Windsor, from my hometown of Lorain, Ohio. CKLW was a 50,000 watt AM station.
Love it! Yes - love this band and this song. Thanks for doing them, Cheers!

Anytime MrPolley!
I suppose it borrows a lot, but why not? And so what? Who doesn't? Yes, nice cheerful song to be in a good mood to if one's willing.
Skip Prokop actually sang lead. Ralph is lead guitar .
And for those who are interested...
Rush? April Wine? Mahogany Rush? Max Webster? Oh, and Joni, Gordon & Neil for us really old folks.

Never heard of them, and now i know why!
😀👍
As$whipe Obviously you have limited music knowledge.
What a Pleasant turn of phrase. 3 thousand cd's would suggest otherwise methinks! 🍋

I don't remember the group. I remember this kind of sound. Hit like.
Hmm... sunny days..., don't you think that part of this song is very similar to the Beatles 2:50-3:08?

I believe they were huge in Winnipeg!
@@Owlstretchingtime78Winnipeg eh 🙂 Cheers.
Not really. Supertramp was huge in Winnipeg before they became famous but Lighthouse was just an easy listening band.@@Owlstretchingtime78
