  • Heathrow airport has asked airlines flying from Terminals 2 and 3 to cancel 10 per cent of their schedules for Monday due to mounting problems with its baggage handling.
An estimated 15,000 passengers on 90 flights will be affected.
The complex baggage system at Terminal 2 failed on Friday, leading to what became known as a “baggage mountain”.
Many arriving long-haul passengers have faced long waits for their baggage, including Chelsea Alison, who had arrived with her family from San Francisco husband, only to wait for hours for their bags.

I've been flying before covid and I don't think I've ever flown somewhere without there being delays, last minute terminal changes and cancellations. I've even had my baggage delayed and delivered a few days later. The airline industry needed overhauling before this and it surely needs it now. Yikes.

We need an airline ombudsman with the power to force airlines that use UK airports to give full cash refunds for outcomes that fall beneath required standards set by the ombudsman.

Wtf is so difficult? Unload baggage, passengers form a line, staff call out names on luggage, passports prove ID and job done. That would solve majority of passengers lost luggage at airport wouldn’t it?

      They should definitely hire you.
Airports are recruiting, have you considered applying for lost luggage coordinator?
      Best of luck 👏

@@dinaworkman306 Schiphol and many other airport are dealing with this as well as Heathrow.
It was a huge spike of passengers sending shockwaves to many airports, due to the reduction of lockdown policies and less people worried about Covid
which led to the huge increase of passengers.

Airports for me are becoming a huge spoiler of holidays, they are insanely disorganised and twatty...its almost like the bastards don't want you going on holiday.

      Explaining in simple terms.
      Covid hits
Airports lose millions for 2 years
      Lots of staff made redundant
Lots of staff on furlough for year and half
Until march 2022 restrictions on travel, which means people didn’t travel much. No passengers = no money = no pay rise or extra staff.
Restrictions lift, but money still low, due low wages recruitment becomes hard
Suddenly streams of passengers and no staff to cope with it.
Is staff in the airports a bit salty? Imagine having to deal with thousands of people whose travel is disrupted and all you take is abuse all day for something out of your control.
We are all trying our best with what we have.
Apart from furlough, airlines industry had no help whatsoever and was one of the transport industries most hit

How do you know these people have never struggled or fallen on hard times before? They’re not all traveling for a holiday and some could very well be traveling for work, moving to a new place, for a family members funeral, etc. Don’t paint everyone with a broad brush because you have no idea what people are going through in their personal lives.
I struggle too but I still have empathy and can sympathize with people who aren’t me. I refuse to let my circumstances turn me into a bitter and hardened person.
