Series creator/executive producer Andrew W. Marlowe says that season three has been about secrets. Cast member Nathan Fillion (Richard Castle) says that his "Firefly" co-star Adam Baldwin will guest star as Detective Slaughter later this season.

Actually despite being aired out of order and beginning its life in the airing slot of death firefly did surprisingly well for a show in its first season, better in fact than many shows that were continued by fox. That's one of the reasons its cancellation was such a crime.

Someone at Fox really wanted firefly to fail, I don't understand it actually, The greatest crime though is Fox holding the rights of the show hostage for 15 years and counting. Making sure no other network could've carried it.
Not true Joss went to them and got the rights to try to take it to a different network. It's the reason they were finally able to make a movie out of it to end the show. The fan base got big enough and joss pushed hard enough for it. Just saying.

Genuinely curious--if he got the rights to take it to a different network, was it the case then that no other network wanted it? Because as far as I know, for several years after the cancellation, most or all of the cast were game for it.

Haha! I loved firefly! Check out the Halloween episode where he has party at the end. In the beginning he dresses up as his old character with the Firefly theme song! It is so funny!
Maybe he got in a fight on stage with Robert Duvall.
For those who are confused, Robert Duvall has a scene in Second Hand Lions where he beats up 4 ruffians. Travis Willingham plays one of those ruffians, and Robert Duvall accidentally really hit Travis not once, but twice in the scene.
I always wonder why they never mention Gina Torres as having a spot on Castle for one episode. I hope we get a few more Firefly vets having a fun time on Castle too. Love both shows.
