Hi, im a busker... iv looked at all the videos and all dont show how to set up budking tip payments... you all just say its easy! Its only giving me an option to create a product and wont scan, its only doing manual typing... its not straight ford that i cn see
Hello! Sorry for my slow reply and sorry to hear you're not finding it easy to set up! Things have changed a bit since I made this video so I'm not sure if its as easy as it once was! I think now you need contact iZettle's customer service and ask for them to set up Repeat Pay for you. If you ask them for Repeat Pay they'll know what you mean and it will be automatically set up onto your account. Hope this helps! xxx
There will always be some that prefer to have cash on them and give it to a busker but we are going towards contactless, more and more these days, trains, underground, shops, restaurants, take aways. Its just seems like contactless is growing as we go through the years.
Fantastic video as always Charlotte. Have just purchased an iZettle 2 so am slowly getting my equipment list sorted out. I've never busked before but I did do some live gigs outside my house during the lockdown period and it was a huge hit with my neighbours in the street. It's given me the oomph to wanna go and try it out on da street!
Great video Charlotte! Interesting to hear how it’s evolved with the contactless readers and great that you gave feedback to help improve it! Gonna order myself an iZettle reader!
You absolutely should! Ohh wait I'll send you an Amazon affiliate link because I've been thinking I should make one in case this video inspires purchases of the iZettle! I'll dm you
Thanks a lot...this has been an eye opener - and wondering it this is going to be viable?! Of course it is! I remember in my first days busking in Manchester central there was this guy coming very close to the sax case to "drop" a few coins - it did it 2 - 3 times daily - obviously he enjoyed my music did he?...then I finally realized behind that broad smile he was nicking my hard earned cash!!
That was interesting Charlotte and I can see the obvious issues for you and your fellow buskers at least in the short term. I'll go away and have a think about this before I come up with any daft questions x
Thanks Gordon, any questions welcome, I'm sure there are lots of things that seem obvious to me that are a big mystery to any non buskers (muggles are we call them...haha kidding we don't!!) so no questions are silly questions! x
@@ccampbellmusic Nice to see so much reaction to this. It does looks like being a bit of a problem but as usual you're ahead of the game here. I've no idea how many Patreon followers you have, maybe you could look at pushing that and encouraging more people to get involved. If even 10% of all your fb followers gave a couple of pounds each month then I guess that would make a huge difference. Good luck x
@@gordonstanners7208 Yes that's true, I've got about 98 Patrons at the moment! And I think I'll be relying on them plus livestreams for a while now. Realistically the footfall for busking for the foreseeable future will be quite low; less tourists and less people going out to places that are potentially "busy" which is really what's needed for busking. But I'm feeling so lucky to have built such a loyal and enthusiastic audience online who are so positive about things like the card reader, Patreon, livestreams etc. I'm very fortunate and grateful!
@@ccampbellmusic That's a good number Charlotte, don't be shy to push for more though and maybe get all your current Patrons to try and spread the word. I'm sure like me they will all be happy to do their bit to help, all the very best.
Speaking for myself I wouldn't hesitate to tip a Busker using a contactless payment, since the Corona Virus crisis I have used Apple Pay for everything with no problems whatsoever. Also I think the ability to tip via PayPal is an easy way to show my appreciation for your online live streams, not for everyone maybe but it suits me👍
Thanks a lot John, very promising that so many people seem to be happy to use these new digital ways to support live music and performances! PayPal has been a great thing for me during the pandemic and I think I’ll make a sign with my PayPal link for future busking in case people would like to use that in person too! ☺️
Sorry I’m late to this but have a question, did I hear you say they tap to pay and then that you then tap and it resets? I thought you would then have to stop paying…. I’m confused
That’s what I’m saying at the beginning because that’s how it worked originally. But I go on to explain that Zettle have developed a new feature to avoid this issue called Repeat Pay.
Yeah it’s a shame it’s not an automatic function on the izettle app or even available as downloadable update, but if you contact izettle directly they send you a private update link. Sorry I meant to include this in the description - info in the description of this video now and a video update coming next week ☺️
Hi , I have a new i Zettle payment machine, also the app on my iPhone, however I can’t seem to see the see the repeat payment option. Also busking, please can you advise me? Peter
Hi Peter! I’m so sorry for my late reply only just saw this! So the Repeat Pay feature is available but annoyingly you have to contact izettle directly to install it. Very easy once you know to contact them but it’s like a busker secret! If you go onto their website and fill the contact form asking to install Repeat Pay they’ll be able to do it for you within 24 hours! Sorry again for my late reply! Good luck! X
@@ccampbellmusic Thanks for getting back to me. I've just come across libertypay and tipjar so I've emailed them to see if they do repeat payments for android. No reply yet but will let you know if I get a positive response. Keep going with fab videos amd music!
Hi, I’m keen to start busking and been looking at getting the Zettle. Can you tell me do I have to be a registered business to acquire a Zettle Device. Thank you
Hey Steve! Best of luck on your busking journey! No you don’t need to be a registered business but if you start receiving in via the izettle I recommend registering as a sole trader/self employed xxx
Hi Charlotte, This is really interesting reading the different comments from viewers. I myself carry just a very small amount of change to tip any buskers whose music I enjoy. I wouldn't be happy using my card for someone who I didn't feel I knew, whose address I didn't know, and I know a lot of your income does come from tourists. From your point of view I imagine it would be a relief not to have so much loose change to deal with everyday if you use a card reader, but I'm doubtful if the general public will fully embrace it. I'm heartened by your positive attitude in such difficult times. I've said it before, however I think you're every bit as engaging as some of the very successful You Tubers when you talk about different topics, and express your views, I really think you should grow your channel in that direction alongside your singing.
Yes I think a lot of people feel the same as you John about using their card with a stranger which I do understand. I suppose we will have to see how things progress and hopefully cash isn’t becoming extinct any time soon! Thanks for all your support John ☺️
i have one of these now at least it will stop bad people trying to make off with your money WHAT I WANT TO KNOW IS CAN WE START AND WHERE CAN WE BUSK THIS IS MY ONLY MEANS OF INCOME PLEASE ANSWER THIS QUESTION
This is a question I need answering too 😅 I’m still not busking regularly and it’s making me really sad. I hope you’re able to get back out there soon and make a full time living 💜🙏 good luck!
As much as I don't like it i think we are moving into a cashless Society. It makes me wonder though if this is the government's of the world controlling us abit more (a way of keeping an eye on what we have, how much we spend, When and where we spend it etc. I think it's going to affect a buskers income drastically if the world goes completely cashless. I know a lot of the older generation still rely on cash and are sceptical about using cards etc. Would people be wary about tipping buskers via contactless payments (would there be a security risk). What about that nice feeling when someone throws cash into your case or into your pot and you give a and a nod and a smile. I would miss that feeling at the end of the day counting up the cash and wondering how much iv'e made.
Yeah I do wonder about this too Ricky, without sounding too much like a conspiracy theorist!!! I agree totally that there is much more of a romanticism about tipping a busker with cash and older people certainly will be wary of the card reader for buskers, and even younger people might suspect a scam of some sort. It would be a real shame if it brought busking to an end. Who knows! Hopefully we are able to adapt and grow!
I really hope that the world does not go cashless as this will make busking for an income very minimal and all income will be subject to the corrupt government tax man skimming off the top of the already reduced earnings. So depressing and criminal IMO :( Take care.
Hi Chris, some people are doing well with card readers. Maybe in the mean time there'll be a low point in tips, as cards take a while to catch up with cash, but I know people who are making a liveable income from card swipes (before the lockdown!). As for the tax thing... it's difficult to empathise. If you busk in areas the council pays to keep clean, with publicly funded streets, parks, plazas or transport systems, that public funding comes from taxes. I 100% agree that taxes and government spending badly need an overhaul, but paying nothing in taxes shouldn't be an option for people who make a living in publicly funded spaces.
Totally agree with this Nick! I’ve always been happy to declare all my busking tips including the cash ones as I’d like to be a contributing member of society and in times like this when I’ve not been able to busk due to the pandemic I was able to use my previous tax returns to make. a self employment claim which has saved my skin!! But I can understand that even more gets taken off the top with card payments due to transaction fees etc and that’ll reduce the income of buskers in the long run. Card payments introduces a middle man that never existed with cash. But hey, maybe it creates more jobs which stimulates the economy and leaves people with more disposable income to tip buskers etc. What goes around comes around ☺️
