- Many of us recognize "Bayan Ko" as a powerful patriotic anthem, but its origins trace back to a 1902 sarswela, "Walang Sugat" (Woundless) by Severino Reyes whose pen name was Lola Basyang. Kundiman in form and originally written in Spanish, it was translated into the Tagalog version we know today by Jose Corazon de Jesus, also known as Huseng Batute, in 1929.
Stay tuned after the song for my interview with Mang Felipe, as he reminisces about his days performing in sarswelas and shares his thoughts on why this art form is no longer performed.

Priceless Musical treasure. I just love listening to it.
I’m a FilAm born in US but grew up listening to my Lolo and Lola singing these songs. I saw a TikTok of you and Mang Tino which led me to binge watch all your videos and watch your documentary (which was amazingly filmed!). I want to learn this Harana/Kundiman style of playing to carry it down generations like you. Any advice on where to start for a self taught guitarist? Thank you for persevering our culture for people like me to learn and enjoy!
Thank you for watching! I use the classical guitar technique. My advice is to study classical guitar from a local teacher. Not only will you support them but it is the best way to learn the technique. With the classical backround, you'll be able to play not just my harana arrangements but other classical pieces, amd more. Good luck!
Thank u so much.mr florante at binuhay mo muli ung manga song na. para bang binaon na sa limot.❤️❤️ Ng pnahon ..
Thanks for watching! ❤️❤️
Thank you Florante!
Wla na sarsuela.dati meron pa noon biglang nawala sa piyestahan
May I ask if you have the lyrics or the music sheet for this masterpiece? Since I never heard this one ilocano version of the song before.
Same here! Would love to see the Ilocano lyrics transcribed so that they can be remembered for generations to come.
