I love the sound performance of my red REL TX9i but hate rear controls and the power switch being so low down on the unit. I wish all subs had controls on a hidden front panel or on top rear so we don't have to drastically maneuver our bodies to make adjustments.
REL actually had front controls on subs a long time ago, it certainly can be more convenient but you shouldn't need to make any adjustments once it's setup well unless you're moving stuff around constantly or changing gear up.
The older version of REL HT 1508 15" (far left) sounds amazing and shakes my whole apartment and chest with ease, it's fast and easy to listen to. Haven't heard that many expensive subs but this blew me away. I wanna say it sounds transparent in music but it's the wrong word, kinda invisible, it's just the air moving and you don't "hear" where it comes from, I have it at 40hz, speakers handle 30. In movies the 3 seat sofa shakes in the low-low's, kinda adds to the effect like explosions, engines... The new version is even stronger and can take more beating. Worth every penny!
I first got a T7/i for music only. A then decided to get another one, but thought I would buy the cheaper 1003 MKII. And that was a mistake! There is really no comparison for me to be honest. I regret it a lot. I could have saved up a bit more and get another music sub too. The flexibility of the driver in T7/i... its qucikness is miles away from 1003.
I have not heard the old 7i but I'm surprised you dislike the 1003 MK2 so much, in my room I was able to blend a T7X and 1003 MK2 in L&R stereo perfectly!
I found why are my t5x slow and bloated, I opened them and found that driver and power supply are connected with fast connectors that you can easly move with the finger (poor connection more resistance)...I know I lost my warranty but I removed them and soldered wire directly..man that sub is now very very responsive and tight...maybe thats the production problem there but I dont care...2x t5x for my stereo in 20m2 room are realy good enough...one other thing is that if you dont have carpet underneath, I recommend to use small silicon hemisphere pads...the sub will lift a little bit but the bass is gonna be even more precise
@@NemoPropaganda The 1003 is hooked up with RCA only and the 7i is hooked up by both RCA to the LFE and Hi Level, like REL recommends. I own a Yamaha RN800A. I was just told it's a mistake, that Yamaha doesn't have a real LFE, that it's just low input. So I'm confused how to connect the 7i. Hi input only?
I should jump on the red t9 like a week ago. But I keep thinking after a while I will want the perfection. It is driving me crazy because I could save $3000 and settle for almost as good. And I am building a brand new stereo system, the best I ever had. It is a very serious decision because I can't waot too long on the red. Great video
yeah I hear ya, it's a tough decision. I'm guessing you're torn between the T9X or a 1003 MK2? Best advice I can give you is this, if you have the money and it's not gonna break the bank go for the T9X, but if the cost is going to cause stress or any financial strain don't do it. Buying stuff is supposed to be fun so if the price causes financial strain then it won't be fun and only cause stress. Hope that helps.
that is a very strange comparison to request and would not make any sense. The 1723 1V weighs 106lbs and substantially larger than all of these. It would be like comparing a deisel truck to a sports car.
Awesome comparisson as always! I have recently made a switch form the HT1003MKII to a KEF KF92, and I must say, I am very impressed with this system. Have just added a second one and it's performance is something else. I was curious to what your personal opinion is, comparing the KF92 to lets say the S510. How does it stack up in terms of digging deep, fast articulate response and overal soundquality?
The KF92 is special in its ability to deliver crazy extension out of a compact enclosure, if you love extension and its output is sufficient for your needs there is no better option. The S510 is a different beast offerring up tremendously better note to note distinction, much more definition in leading edges, and superior transient response. So yes the S510 sounds much better but what you personally value and enjoy is the most important thing. If one values extension above all else they may prefer the KF92 despite the S510 having better bass fidelity overall. My favorite speaker is the Buchardt S400 MK2, it's certainly not the most detailed speaker in the world however so there is no accounting for personal taste, that will ultimately determine what is good to each individual.
Hey Nemo, I just subscribed to your channel. I’ve been researching sub woofers and wanted to let you know, out of all the reviews I’ve watched, yours have been by far the most useful and informative. I’ve been able to narrow down my choice to a few models. I’m still not sure but I’m a lot closer. Thank you for all the work you put into your reviews. You rock!

I like both a lot but the room is very important, the S510 works better in medium and up size rooms while the T9X works in small and up size rooms. What are your rooms dimensions and specifically what is the depth of the main wall to the rear wall in the direction you sit and watch the TV?
@@ericchung6788 that room is right in the middle, you can go either way :). If you want dual subs now the T9X is cheaper to get into though the S510 is on sale. Listened to the T5, T7, and T9. I was very impressed. More than I was prepared for. Price/performance is really great. However, I'm still undecided to go with a pair of T9s or the JL E12 pair. They sounded great too

If you like shorter more anaylitcal listening sessions you may prefer the JL, if you enjoy longer 1.5+ hour sessions you may prefer the REL. Hope that helps, maybe try to in home demo one of them.
Very clear, love your way of doing things! I know there are a lot of brands, but word has come to me that Sonus Faber has some engineers that came from REL to design their subwoofers. I would really like to know how their Gravis I and Gravis II sound like coming from your stand of view. They also look stunning and offer wooden finishes on their subs. Any chance you might reach out to them and review them?
I know it's not something you would normally review, but is there any chance you could attempt to get an integrated/power amplifier from Sparkler Audio? They're low-watt amplifiers, but I'd love to see you review their products.
Exactly what I was looking for, concise and to the point. 10/10 video! I actually emailed REL and asked what sub to use with the Bowers & Wilkins 606 S3 (€1K) for my room that's 22m² (72ft²) and they said the T/5x or a pair of them. I then asked what if I had the KEF R3 Meta (€2.2Κ)? And they said because the KEF R series is in a completely different league than the B&W, the s/510 would suit them better for sure.
I'd say the R3 Meta can go either way depending on the room and what its connected to, in an ideal setup with higher end amps and a bigger room S510 for sure! If you got a little room like most R3 Meta customers, figure something like 10x12 I think a T9X makes more sense.
@@Hatebackgroundnoise I ended up with nothing, because I got drafted in the military lol. I plan on saving up and getting the S/812 when I finish my service next year. But then again the S series is getting old now so I might as well wait a bit more till it gets refreshed. For the speakers I'm also looking at the new Monitor Audio Gold 6G series that have massive dynamic range with the 3 way bookshelf that can hit 119dB.
this is a general overview of the 4 models, each one has its own dedicated video, if you're seriously considering one or the other please check out their associated videos. Or even easier you can call REL and tell them what speakers you have and get their 2 cents on the topic.
Big fan of urs from India and my buying decision is greatly influenced by u !!! Have u come across SDSi subwoofers they offer 8 inch to 15 inch sub. Looking at 8 inch one for my living room 120 square feet or just go with rel ht1003? Planning to integrate with Monitor audio silver 250 and silver 100 mainly for TV watching
Also mate I am struck between MA silver 50, 100 and 200? I am inclined towards 100 cos of ur review of bronze 100. Unfortunately I can't listen to all of these.
@@venkibe035 Hi bro, since all 3 speakers are made by the same company have you tried contact MA to see what they say? Sometimes different sized speakers can sound very different like emotiva b1+ and b2+ or triangle BR02 and BR03. First I think you have to decide if you want towers or bookys. If you're having a hard time deciding try to consider your room aesthetics and what look you're going for.
I don't think REL has limited extension. This is a case whre looking at specs does not paint the whole picture, not everyone rates their subs the same way, REL's -6dB is the same as when other brands say +/-3dB, the plus minus & minus only ratings are not the same. REL extends plenty low unless you're talking about the T/X range but those are very small subwoofers. Anyway, REL makes SQ subs, SQ subs will never play the loudest or extend the lowest, that's what SPL subs do, if you want an SPL sub their are many options available that will play extremely loud for not much money.
I enjoy watching your subwoofer comparisions so much. Your 8" subwoofer comparision long ago was what initially got me hooked to your channel. Just love talking about subwoofers, period.
I don't have any experience with vintage gear, due to the age and variance of condition it would be very difficult to make a comparison even if I've heard one at some point in my journye.
@@NemoPropagandaMakes me happy Nemo didn’t say REL right away. Feels like an affirmation that I made a good choice with my Rythmik and that it isn’t an easy question to answer which says a lot. Thanks again, Nemo.
Shawn I own Rythmik because of Nemo’s review but I think as you go up to the s510 you surpass anything Rythmik has to offer including the F12SE from a fidelity perspective. The fvx12 is going to give you a great combo of fidelity and excursion. Just depends on what you want. The rel products look way better but imo the rythmik is the better value
I’ve owned two models from each company. Ended up preferring Rel mostly because of aesthetics TBH. But functionality wise, the Rythmiks dig deeper, are more adjustable (lots of settings on the plate amp) and have better bang for the buck. That said, the rels just seem to work without finicky setup. Just drop them in and go. With either brand you are in great shape.
Oooh haven't heard the HT/10 yet but that could be the perfect upgrade to my office 2.1 system. The HT/12 is awesome, and as you called the T/9x, "sublime".
Hi... stupid question...but here we go...i have r3 meta and atoll in200 which has nice mids and highs but i am missing the bass. I am considering subwoofer but due to the room size/shape I wonder if the woofer should be firing to the sweet spot or i could put the bass to the side of one of the speaker and the woofer could fire to the other speaker. I just dont have a good line of sight between the place i would like to put the subwoofer ....will appreciate your thoughts...
I have recently bought ht1205mkii, but have really problems to implement it to my home theatre. Over 100hz, it has a huge drop off, I also measured directly in front of the subwoofer, there it is better, but still dropping down. But then tried many positions, always the same, Dirac was able to maximum identify 86hz as usable frequency, meaning crossover should actually be 43hz, but this is not possible for my speakers. My svs sb 1000 is doing that way better, 236hz Dirac possible, set to 100hz crossover then. The svs sounds in my room also faster and dryer, but it misses the power and bass Fundament from the rel. Anways I send it back, makes no sense to me. Maybe trying a bigger svs or maybe tx series, what do you mean?
that's an extremely high crossover point, I generally don't recommend people run their crossover too much above 50hz, north of 100hz is not a frequency range for subwoofers.
@@NemoPropaganda really? maybe on the higher side, but not that high like you wrote. usually 80hz is the THX standard crossover. and you always have to see the whole system. If you have lets say B&W 702 floor standing speakers with 46hz at +3db and 28hz at -6db - you can easily choose any crossover point, which perfectly fits with subwoofer and room modes. but many people will have speakers with 50-70hz at +3db, and then it is not as easy anymore. you cannot cut off the subwoofer at 50hz and let the speakers take over from 70hz. you need good transition, and based on my listening experience and also with many Dirac measurements done, for my speakers (62hz at +3db) it sounds best for home theather, when having the crossover at 100hz for the subwoofer, and 80hz for the speakers. it gives me a good transition, you never notice if the sub or the speaker is doing the work, and you have good powerfull punch also at 100hz. if I do the crossover below that, the zone from 80-120hz has too less punch, it sounds like a whole in that transition zone. and usually the "rule" is, cut off at minimum 1 octave below/above the maximum possible measured signal from speaker/sub. meaning if Dirac measured that your speaker is able to play until 40hz (there then it rapidly falls down) you can have crossovr at 80hz. and if the subwoofer is possible till 200hz, you can have 100hz crossover. these both points are relevant for the possible "crossover window" the wider the window, the better you can choose the crossover point, the narrow it is (like in my case with just 86hz) the less options you have, and the more you have to set crossover based on your speaker skills, and not based on usefull accoustic concecpts etc. I only can repeat myself, the whole conecpt sounds far better with SVS because it can easily reach higher frequencies
@@LukasZ92. sounds like you are doing theater, I'm not really into that, my YT channel is for 2ch music, I'm happy you have found a process that works for you, theater is not my area of expertise.
@@NemoPropaganda ah ok therefore the misunderstanding :D yes it is about theater in my case, and actually the REL HT series is specially made for that, and that is why I'm even more wondering why it has that cut off at 100hz. for music of course it is total different, subwoofer is really just an extension to the very low frequencies, but not in home theatre. unfortunately, I will send the REL back to the retailer... is useless for me.. but another thing, which you please could also check: if I set the crossover at the REL iteslf to 30hz, and the speakers in the AVR to 200hz (meaning that there is a big gap) and playing music, there is still lot of bass coming from the REL, but doesnt sound accurate. If i do the same for the SVS, no bass at all (exactly what I expected, because usually music isn't playing that extremly deep) - the SVS must be turned to at least 60-70hz to hear any bass (not because of the sub, becuase of the music) and the wider I turn it up the more bass was there (because like wrote, speakers for testing reasons set to 200hz). at the REL, there was also a difference when turning crossover higher, more punchy more direct etc. but that gap to 200hz never has been closed fully unlike for the SVS
Bought a pair of HT1003 when they were on sale for $599. I figured using two subs was more important than the high level connection of the t9/t7. My tube amp has frequency response limited 23 to 23.000 HZ so, I use rcas to get all the lower detail.
Ho delle proac studio 140 mk1, risposta in frequenza 25hz 30khz, ha senso un subwoofer come il t9x? Non rischio di sovrapporre i bassi visto che i diffusori scendono già in basso? 100% musica stanza d ascolto 18 mq
I'm not sure, I have not heard that speaker, try emailing REL and see what they say. They are very good at helping customers choose the right subwoofer.
that doesn't make sense, even the little 8" T5X extends below 40hz. Of course subs do need to break in so let them do that for about 24 hours, then experiment with phase settings & placement. Try to get 1 sub to sound right first, then add the second one into the mix but for now they need to break-in.
I just have room for one sub in my second system. Can't connect high level since the speakers are active. I already tried the svs mini.. its ok.but I prefer speed and refinement. So.. I was thinking Kef kc62. With only needing one sub.. under the conditions of what I have.. would you choose the rel t9x or kef kc62?
Very different subs, the KC62 doesn't have the speed & refinement of the T9X (very few subs do) but it has tons of extension as long as you keep the volume reasonable. The T9X doesn't have the extension fo the KC62 but has more bass fidelity overall.
Nemo, do you think a regular non-audiophile could hear and enjoy the difference in sound quality between the S510, t9x, and classic? Or are these differences so small that you have to be an enthusiast to consistently notice the difference without trying? Thanks and keep up the great reviews!
yes, I have demo'd subs for non-audiophile friends many times, I say nothing and just ask their opinion, the funny thing is they even use the same discriptors we use. It's a very interesting thing.
I love your subwoofer reviews also. Was wondering if you have ever reviewed the HSU Research subwoofers. Would love to get your opinion! no, I don't think they like my content, I've tried to contact them a few times but never got a reply, I saw the owner at Axpona and gave him my business card, balls 100% in their court at this point.
That's how to do a side by side comp. Well done Nemo!

I'd say the R3 Meta can go either way depending on the room and what its connected to, in an ideal setup with higher end amps and a bigger room S510 for sure! If you got a little room like most R3 Meta customers, figure something like 10x12 I think a T9X makes more sense.
Interesting. Thanks for posting.
What did you end up going with, and what are they going with. Cheers 👍🏻
Can you define “tuneful” over sound quality? I can’t decide if I need the classic or T9x. Thanks
this is a general overview of the 4 models, each one has its own dedicated video, if you're seriously considering one or the other please check out their associated videos.
I have not heard of that brand but If they offerred me a review sample I think I would decline the offer. Def stick with the 1003 idea.
@@NemoPropaganda thanks a ton... Will go with REL 1003
@@NemoPropaganda have written to MA.. i specifically called out ur channel as the influencer !!
Nemo, how do you feel about the limited extension of Rel, even the HT15 is -6db at 20hz compared to many other subs that are -3db at 16hz?
I don't think REL has limited extension. This is a case whre looking at specs does not paint the whole picture, not everyone rates their subs the same way, REL's -6dB is the same as when other brands say +/-3dB, the plus minus & minus only ratings are not the same. REL extends plenty low unless you're talking about the T/X range but those are very small subwoofers. Anyway, REL makes SQ subs, SQ subs will never play the loudest or extend the lowest, that's what SPL subs do, if you want an SPL sub their are many options available that will play extremely loud for not much money.
I am looking for 2 subwoofers for a 150sq fedt room and its for a 2ch system.
Hi, Which is better for music - down firing T5x or front firing T7x? Any difference in sound character between the two? Thanks in advance
The T7x is better for music. Just watch the review on the channel that he has already done on it.
Both are great but between the 2 the T7X for sure.
@@NemoPropaganda Thank you very much
Which one is best for home theatre?
HT 1003 MK2.
I enjoy watching your subwoofer comparisions so much. Your 8" subwoofer comparision long ago was what initially got me hooked to your channel. Just love talking about subwoofers, period.
wow! I remember making that video, it was the asw608, bravus 8d, and SE8!
@@NemoPropaganda hi Nemo. There is new kid in the block. Can you do comparison video of s510, rel classic 99 and rel ht1205 mk2.
@@PremKumar-vt1hq maybe in the future, I've covered a lot of REL this year already, I have to give some attention to other brands also :)
How would these subs compare to a rel storm mk1. Thanks
I don't have any experience with vintage gear, due to the age and variance of condition it would be very difficult to make a comparison even if I've heard one at some point in my journye.
If you had to choose between Rythmik and Rel for a music only system which would you choose?
This is a very overly general question but I own multiple products from both brands.
@@sean_heisler you can't go wrong with either option!
Oooh haven't heard the HT/10 yet but that could be the perfect upgrade to my office 2.1 system. The HT/12 is awesome, and as you called the T/9x, "sublime".
yup! 1003 is great!!!
I'd almost remind you of the T5X but I know your musical taste and for sure you will prefer the 1003 MK2, it conveys the double bass VERY nicely!!
Hi... stupid question...but here we go...i have r3 meta and atoll in200 which has nice mids and highs but i am missing the bass. I am considering subwoofer but due to the room size/shape I wonder if the woofer should be firing to the sweet spot or i could put the bass to the side of one of the speaker and the woofer could fire to the other speaker. I just dont have a good line of sight between the place i would like to put the subwoofer ....will appreciate your thoughts...
hop in the free discord where you can post pics of your room and we'll try and help you the best we can.
Hi, how do you think about svs pb2000 and mbws ms-12?
th-cam.com/video/rEz03XkcslI/w-d-xo.htmlsi=uYfxeklSFHwcJAMA
Got myself a pair of1003s given I listen to rock and roll and don't have that much below 40 hz.
that doesn't make sense, even the little 8" T5X extends below 40hz. Of course subs do need to break in so let them do that for about 24 hours, then experiment with phase settings & placement. Try to get 1 sub to sound right first, then add the second one into the mix but for now they need to break-in.
Love your reviews bro!
@NemoPropaganda rel it is then :)
I do have a rel ht1003 sitting around. it's not the newer version. just wish they came in white.
ITS FINALLY HERE! THANK YOU MY GUY!!!!
Wow ! What a review! Enjoyed listening to it...Thanks !!!
Good one
This may be a good time as they have recently introduced a new flagship model. Dr Hsu, the designer, 😢has a PHD in engineering from MIT. I have owned one of their better subs for years and have been really impressed with their value for the money. Also I will note their customer experience and technical support has been outstanding.
no, I don't think they like my content, I've tried to contact them a few times but never got a reply, I saw the owner at Axpona and gave him my business card, balls 100% in their court at this point.
If you can splurge the cash…go for the s510…I have 2 pairs of both the s510 and the t9i (older model of the t9x)…so I swear by rels
My only wish is that they'd offer the first HT line subs again for a discount, and just make them look like the speedwoofers.
