As a physical science teacher I have never been without a job and have even been able to negotiate where and when I would like to work. Started at age 21. Retire this year after 40 years. It has been both rewarding and a privilege.
It is interesting that the WC government is talking about the impact of budget cuts yet the departments buy top of the range vehicles and even high end vehicles.
Interesting that in the intro it is reported that the country lost R124 billion over the last 5 years due to fruitless, wasteful and irregular expenditure by government but then the program indicates the cause of budget cuts as being as a result of salary increases approved last year.
Everyone seems to intentional forgot that the public servants had a year of the multi term agreement with no salary increments when the employer reneged on 3 yr agreement that led to public servants not to get salary increments for a year thus resulted in their indebtness and they haven't recovered.
Easy to blame the wage increase for government employees. Go and have a look at how many managers and consultants have been appointed at inflated salaries. You will easily make up your deficit, just by cutting half of the managers.
Respectfully said, paying public workers their increases, isn't the problem. Incompetence and corruption is . Some media outlets love to portray an askwewed narrative that workers and unions fighting for decent increase, which still haven't kept up with the high cost of living and crazy inflation, are the source or root of the issues citizens are facing, which isn't. It's not that SA is poor, this is one, if not THE country with the most diverse amount of natural resources- there's gold, platinum, diamonds, you name it, agriculture contributes as substantial percentage to global market's. Where does the monies go? Blame this Incompetent and corrupted government. How do you cut beyond the bone? The source and not the symptoms of why we are here, children are suffering yet ministers and MP's get paid monies unduly in relation to what they actually do or contribute. It's a shame and utter disgrace. The wrong people are in potions of power, period. We all must cut, cut, cut, but the corruption continues unabated.
Imagine if South Africa was as well run as first world nations. Could you imagine if there was a Norwegian Carte Blanche? This story would’ve been about how Henie Jorgenssen lost his cat…. Instead it’s about how schools can’t afford lunch anymore and that there is not a single doctor left to treat patients with eye cancer
Noo, dear MEC of Health, you clearly didn't hear how the shortage of nursing staff, impacted on both the quantity and quality, nevermind the basic ability for doctors to do their jobs....low-key gaslighting 💁🏾

Seeing that Elon Musk, South-African born Citizen, now a U.S Citizen is helping the U.S Gov, in cutting their spending, why not approach him, ask him to cut S.A Gov spending 🙂
SA not "Africa" but South Africa was not built for all the people...if a country was built to accommodate 42 000 000 people in whatever year you can't expect her "SA" to carry the 65 000 000 + in the country.
