@@ZackeroniAndCheese I expect Tarmogoyf to be a staple in this format, have no doubts about it. 100% agree that the WAR planeswalkers were all heinous designs, hence why WAR is not a legal set.
This format could thrive if the original modern border was the restriction. Mirrodon to Journey to Nyx is still a massive carpool with some of the best decks the format ever saw.
I really enjoy formats that dont like always change, and with such a cool and massive cardpool. Especially since magic in general it feels like has sped up alot during fire and even if the pushed-ness has chilled it still is way faster. @@guitarwithjacob No, that format was simply Modern without supplemental sets (meaning new standard sets were included) and it was using the regular Modern ban list as opposed to an independent one, which is why it failed.
DRS is banned, but I am assuming that Bloodbraid and Punishing Fire will mean that there will be a strong Jund deck available. All the details are in the document linked, if you are interested.
Honestly, the banned list should be empty to start, then iterated on monthly for the first year. Many of the cards on the initial banned liat weren't banned pre-FIRE design, SSG, DRS, SSR, KCI come to mind. I would love to play Ad Nauseum or Eggs in PreF Modern, but that's not possible with the current banned list
SSG is NOT currently banned, but on the watch list, so Ad Nauseam is very playable. Regarding the other cards we already know what Eggs or KCI would do to the format, and it's not a play experience than the vast majority of folks would necessarily consider "fun", so the cards that would make those tier 1 decks are preemptively banned. If you wanted to play Eggs you could still do so, with Faith's Reward and Open The Vaults, but Second Sunrise, which would make it much more challenging for the deck to end up so high up in the tier list.
Hahaha, that is guaranteed to not happen. We will ban Deceiver Exarch and Pestermite before banning Twin, so that you can only combo with Bounding Krasis lol
I thought of this format too, and the non-legal ongoing starts from kld in my build. Bc the shit really hits the fan w fatal push imo. Also some bans are actually required for a healthy format, bc 4 misstep 4crome mox is boring af
Yeah, you can take it other places. Personally I think Fatal Push is great for a format like this cause it makes it easier to answer Exarch to help bring Twin down a notch, as well as having good removal for Tarmogoyf and other potentially problematic dudes.
@@fpawluszmtg Imo twin is very polarising player experience. Winning w it feels undeserved like 1 out of 5 games, and losing to it feel like cheese. On the other hand twin is just an instant speed removal check, which is actually unfun.
Good question! "FIRE" was a design philosophy that WotC started using while designing new Magic sets. It effectively meant they wanted to push the power level of cards quickly and consistently, to the point where they'd render previous staples of the format obsolete.
