Dallas called Lakers directly bc they wanted AD. The money that was going to be owed to Luka via the super max Dallas didn't want to pay. Adding AD to their backcourt allows him to play power forward while Gafford and young bull run center. Then you still have Kyrie and Klay. Dallas just assembled a championship caliber team, saving themselves a couple hundred million dollars. Smart. And Lakers got to do what they always do, bring in a star player to represent their franchise for the foreseeable future.

So the Lakers trade away all of their young players Ball, Hart, and Ingram and two first round draft picks for AD just to trade him for a scorer that plays no defense, doesn’t take care of his body and stays hurt. I think it's a great deal because both players get a change of scenery. The Lakers get a building block for the future.
And the Mavericks get a defensive player that they need right now. It's a win-win situation for both teams. My grades: Lakers A the Mavericks B.
