PHIWOS DUTY

The South African government has criminalised poverty, including sterilising poor women
and taking their children to be raised as wards of the state. Phiwo is a young nurse who
wants to prove her worth. She is committed to her job and wants to be the perfect citizen
in appearance and in action. However, after meeting a poor and pregnant Miriam, she
questions her role and commitment to the state.
