    Hello ASL Heroes!!!
    Hey, I could really use your help.
    If you’ve enjoyed having access to an expert in ASL you can help me continue my work for you.
    A small monthly donation from you would instantly make a big difference here at the studio because teachers don’t earn much and I could use some help paying for server and domain hosting for Lifeprint.com.
    Right now you can help out a humble (not to mention kind, caring, generous, compassionate, helpful, friendly, fair, and hard-working) ASL teacher -- just go here and a few clicks later you too will be a true “ASL Hero!”

    Thanks!

    p.s. Want to have your very own USB drive with four semesters worth of ASL instruction (that’s the equivalent of two years of colleges classes) for just $79.95? See "SuperUSB" in the ASLUniversity bookstore at:

    Take care and love to you all.

    Hi dr Bill! Thank you for making these. I force myself to talk sometimes because some days I just don’t want to speak at all. So far these have helped a lot when I don’t want to talk. I’ve actually gone up to lesson 12 but I got confused and decided I needed to review! Do you have any tips for learning asl or for reading it better?

      That playlist has quite a few repeated lessons. You could use them for review and skip the ones you have mastered.

    I've noticed I've started to make over exaggerated facial expressions when forming sentences in asl, I think I subconsciously picked it up from you lol.

      @sign-language  4 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Tsk, tsk, if you picked up your facial expressions from "me" that means they are "excellent expressions" or "wonderfully expressive" expressions -- perhaps even "engagingly animated" expressions -- but certainly not "over exaggerated."

    Hi Dr. Bill! Just wondering, what is the difference between "that" and "stay"? They both seem to use the same sign. Is it just context? Thanks for any help!

    • @sign-language
      @sign-language  4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      STAY and THAT use a different movement.
      THAT uses a downward slap for the generic version.
      THAT-one uses a directional (toward the referent) thrust and wrist movement (wherein the hand moves from flexed up and back moving to forward and down) for the "that one" version. ( th-cam.com/video/tNas8PN6pIQ/w-d-xo.html )
      STAY uses an angled (forward and down) thrust (like the hand of an analog clock pointing toward 7:30 or 4:30).
      In addition to the version of STAY that moves both hands (forward/down) at an angle at the same time there are other versions including:
      STAY version: th-cam.com/video/QmbOr-8K_Kw/w-d-xo.html (two hands -- one hand moves)
      STAY version: th-cam.com/video/k2VFMUf9mo8/w-d-xo.html (one handed)
      Try this search link: th-cam.com/users/Lifeprint-signssearch?query=stay
      Try this search link: th-cam.com/users/Lifeprint-signssearch?query=that

    • @michele2609
      @michele2609 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@sign-language Ahh I see. From what I can tell, "stay" does not show the underneath side of the fingers or palm, the fist is consistently held downward/outward. Whereas "that" uses more of the slap (as you said) and exposes the fingers/palm. Thanks a ton for all the links and clarification! :-)

    I am addicted to learning ASL! I’ve watched only lessons 1-6 but numerous times to really get it down before moving on.
    I had my volume on tonight instead of silent because they’re always signing and I can read along. Tonight
    It was funny to hear the “clap clap” for school from the other students. I had no idea this is done in front of a classroom. Duh. Lol
    So awesome. 💕

    Is the sign “have to” same as “must”? Growing up I learned English signings and changed to ASL when I was in high school. English signing to help deaf and hearing impaired the understand grammar correctly. Very few signings I still do in English signs and need to correct them.

    • @sign-language

      "have to" is the same as "must."
      "have" and "have to" are different concepts.
