    Cart is feeling confident because he knows MSU doesn’t have to go to Mackey. If MSU were playing Purdue at Mackey he’d be a lot more scared.

    I believe they have picked up the slack on the defensive end of the floor which has helped them tremendously in my opinion

    Cart, you're wrong. Sorry my guy, Purdue's scheme has changed and the way they are playing is totally different. Cart doesn't know what he's watching. Greg is right. Cart's gonna do the "they don't have a rim protector" thing probably, but the reality is the design is that they are forcing drives into traffic, 3 or 4 guys, and forcing you to make cross court passes to open shooters. Some teams will be able to do it more than others... but it's not quite "pack line" but it's awfully close. They've totally flipped how they play defensively post-holidays, not just the players on the court (though Cox and Furst are both plus-defenders), and Smith is your roving destroyer getting steals off the ball.

    • @dancurran6779
      @dancurran6779 14 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Braden was not even thinking about guarding TJ Mamba like go ahead bro shoot that 3 lol. Same defense MSU is gonna see. Go ahead any player on MSU, try and make a three.

    • @rocketmultisport4116
      @rocketmultisport4116 14 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@dancurran6779 Exactly. It's the same lazy analysis that lead all of Twitter to decide that Edey wasn't a good rim protector because he didn't block a lot of shots... even though he was specifically asked not to try so he'd stay out of foul trouble. "Purdue gives up open looks." Yeah. To your crappy shooters. On purpose.

      I can’t tell if you’re trolling. Braden is very good defensive IQ off ball and puts himself in great positions to get steals but can get exposed 1 on 1 often

      @@stevesmith1811 I wouldn’t go as far as to say he should be on the all defense team, but I honestly think the narrative of him getting exposed defensively extremely exaggerated. There are a select few 6’6 guards that could give him issues just based on size and the ability to shoot over him. As a tiny guard you’re going to get that at times, but there really aren’t that many of those guards in this conference outside of Kasparas and Dylan Harper.

  • @JeffSmithbureau13
    @JeffSmithbureau13 15 วันที่ผ่านมา +7

    With regard to CJ Cox and his offensive output, I feel you guys are not being consistent. It's not like he missed a bunch of shots. You previously said Purdue shouldn't "run any action" for him, because you'd rather Braden or Fletch take those shots. That's what's happening! When the defense is such that he's left open he's taking and generally making shots. But he's not the focus of the offense, so I don't know how you can say it's dumb to run plays for him because you want Smith and Loyer taking the shots, and then when that happens you complain that he's not scoring. Not sure what you want him to do.

  • @BurnerBall
    @BurnerBall 15 วันที่ผ่านมา +9

    Purdue’s defensive efficiency has gotten so much better the last month. I get that the competition hasn’t been elite, but they also looked bad defensively against less than elite competition early in the season.

  • @loyerenjoyer
    @loyerenjoyer 15 วันที่ผ่านมา +7

    Bittle had TKR’s number defensively but if he can keep making free throws I’m ok with a less than efficient performance from the field.
    In conference play Purdue is #1 at forcing turnovers and 2nd on the defensive glass. Braden is leading the conference in steals. They’ve changed their identity and it’s working.

      I did. TKR played like trash, when he had his back to the basket except one time. All the other times something bad happened and he was shooting very close to the basket. It was so bad that when he caught the ball with his back to the basket, I would scream a the TV. Now to his credit, he did pass the ball a couple of times. I will also say that it was clear that the key players for Purdue were tired and played tired.

  • @Matt-fb5xe

    TKR is 59% FG and 42.9% 3pt this year. I get the frustration with his lack of rim protection, TO's at times, and very average FT shooting, but getting worked up over 1 game where his FG was down is a bit much.

    This is fast food basketball commentary. I know you understand the game in general but these are comments from guys examining box scores. You cannot watch Purdue play 6 weeks ago and then watch them today and not give them credit for improving.
    They’ve bought in. They’re playing aggressively. They’re hitting their assignments and most importantly they’re not letting more athletic players bully them.
    I don’t expect you to break down film of every game but lately your assessment of Purdue has been super academic. Entertaining but not very quality. Fast food.

    • @rocketmultisport4116
      @rocketmultisport4116 14 วันที่ผ่านมา

      There are some stylistic similarities between Carsen and Cox, and I think people get carried away with that. I don't expect Cox to ever be as good as Carsen was as a scorer consistently, but he's a far better defender and rebounder. The rest kind of remains to be seen. For now, Cox is giving them what they need - a strong perimeter defender on the ball.

    • @BurnerBall
      @BurnerBall 14 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @ I think that’s exactly the comp people are making. Just acknowledging the stylistic similarities. Not saying he will ever be the volume scorer Carsen was. It’s a unique situation where you’re even given the green light as a player to shoot as much as Carsen did to average 24ppg. Imo it’s purely a stylistic comp.

  • @Jack-lo7tb
    @Jack-lo7tb 15 วันที่ผ่านมา +7

    I hear you on CJ Cox- but from a score and team offensive efficiency standpoint, can you not have a good game shooting 0/0? 0/4 is a bad game, 1/8 is a horrible game. The shots CJ isnt taking are going to someone else. I'd rather see some middle ground, have to at least be a threat... but I don't hate 0/0 entirely, this isnt a Gabe Cupps thing.

  • @nathanmurphy5736

    As for CJ vs CE, they are night and day:
    CJ is a defender first with a take what they give you shot...
    CE was/is a shooter first middle and last. He had to be hidden on defense.
    They are clearly different players and should be viewed as such.

    Good description by Greg of Mick Cronin at 25:15 as the leader of UCLA's "Band of Misfits". Can we get the graphics department at Sleepers Media to prepare a cartoon version of Cronin as the "Pirate Captain" (with his well-known red mustache and beard) to go with Cronin's bald head? Yeah, that graphic for upcoming UCLA preview and recap videos would complete this metaphor.

    For sure Purdue has to be able to win at Michigan State to win the conference this year due to the schedule. Purdue's schedule is much tougher than Michigan State's schedule and in this era where you only play most teams once, schedule matters. The Purdue at Michigan State game will likely determine the conference champion and I believe will be a very close game that comes down to the last minute.

    The game I watched. Purdue looked like crap. They looked like a team that has played to many games and was on the road; yes good players but tired and working hard on defense. Now Oregon? They just looked like they were sick or something. Dudes missing shots that were wide open and a step slower than normal. As a Purdue fan, I feel like Purdue dodged a bullet here, in that they ran into a team that was flat on their home court. I wonder if some of the Oregon players had the flew or were out a bit too late the night before. What I was super disappointed in was TKR throwing up all the garbage he did and the rest of the team that doesn't play that much not stepping up. TKR tried like mad for sure and I do appreciate that. Braydon and Fletch looked like guards who were just exhausted. Oh and that freaking dunk that Colvin had that he was pushed from behind 100% should have been an intentional foul.
