Expat living in Curridibat here. Great interview, the Orosi valley is beautiful and one of my favorite places to ride bikes. He's dead on the cost of a home is much higher here in the central valley. If you enjoy fresh fruits and vegetables you'll spend substantially less for your meals than eating out too often. Pura Vida.
Thanks for the video .. I am your neighbor for 16 years from New Mexico .. Retired builder living in La Castilla looking down on lake Cachi .. everything you said checked all the boxes for me as well … Take care neighbor 😊
Thanks a lot for this most important video every wannabe-expat should watch. Loved to listen to Don Juan😅and for the very first time, after having watched so many "useful and important" videos produced by "experts" this one was GREAT! This was perfect. Pura Vida and keep up the good work.
ROGER, this was a great interview. And how timely it was for me and my wife. We will be spending three days in the Orosi Valley next month. After listening to this interview, I am thinking I should have set aside a little more time there. Perhaps we will have to plan a second visit.
Hi Richard. Thank you for your feedback about the interview much appreciated. The three days should give you a good first overall feeling for the area. I hope you enjoy it and thank you for watching the video and your comments.
@@CostaRicaLaw talk about coincidences. The host of the Airbnb my wife and I are staying at in Orosi is the magician John mentioned was at one of his parties. In fact, John was his doctor in Texas and the person who convinced him to move to Orosi. Coincidence or Providence? I guess we will see.
They say Costa Rica is a "small country" in more ways then one. Yes what a coincidence. Well you will certainly be an expert in the area during your stay with all those experts around.
This is hands down one of the best videos I've seen it was so enjoyable I felt like I was there with you enjoying the sounds of the river and the lush green surroundings if I was in the area I would definitely want to be your friend and hang out with you guys you are a plethora of information and I loved your vibe and your outlook on life in general and in Costa Rica thank you for all the amazing information sharing your life and your home and all the important information for anyone who might be thinking about possibly making a move to Costa Rica! I subscribed on definitely look forward to any other videos you make and put out there for us to enjoy! I could listen to you all day! It was a pleasure🐵✌️🦜🙌🐢Pura Vida🙌
Fantastic interview Roger. Thank You. Anyone thinking of moving here should listen to Don Juan's advice and adopt the same open attitude and respect for the local culture.
Hi Franz thanks for watching the video. Absolutely great point that you make no matter what part of Costa Rica you will live in. I appreciate your feedback
Cachi looks very cool. I live in Orotina and had a difficult time choosing between here and Orosi because that part of the country has such gorgeous landscapes. I hope to visit the area one day and am happy to get a sneak peak in your video! Many thanks!
Seems every area has it's distinct beauty...that is some of the magic we are blessed with. I live in San Pablo de Turrubares ...that is just 20 km. from you Martha...the point between the best beaches and the capital.
I'm DEFINITELY moving there! Next spring baby.! Great video guys..super informative 👍. I can't wait to get down there..coming from Sacramento CA..it's going to be a SHOCK..in a good way. Thanks again guys.
Thank you so much for your kind words! We're thrilled to hear you enjoyed the video. Moving from Sacramento to Costa Rica will definitely be an exciting change, and we're sure you'll enjoy the new adventure.
We spent 3months in Cachi when we first came to Costa Rica, and it is beautiful there. We almost bought property there. We ended up in the Southern Zone of Costa Rica, which is even cheaper, but I do sometimes miss Cachi.
Hi Mike and Ginger. Yes the Southern Zone is a beautiful area of Costa Rica as well with access to the ocean for those that prefer to be near to the coast.
We visited the Orosi Valley area several times on our many trips to Costa Rica, and found it BEAUTIFUL ! It is much nicer than many of your "tourist destinations" - a truer example of CR than those overpriced zones.
This was a great video. Thank you for the insight. I travel to Sri Lanka and live there for 5.5 months of the year every year. I have a condo in Sri Lanka. Born and raised in Canada on the West Coast. Living in a tropical part of the world is the best and so different than living in the west.
This was a very well done interview...and the info. was accurate compared to most others. As an xpat also settled in Costa & have been here continually for 36 yrs. The very best !
My family is from Cartago, and I went to visit CR last year. We drove to Orosi and then Cachi one weekend, very nice area. I don't live in CR, I miss being there though; I live in the Midwest
Hello. Thank you for watching and commenting and yes that drive around Orosi and Cachi is very scenic and relatively close trip from San Jose for those that want to explore the area.
Thank you so much for your amazing feedback! We're thrilled to hear you enjoyed the video. We'll definitely work on creating more content like this. Pura Vida!
Great video... we've been here three years and are finding our groove here in Peréz Zeledón. One bone to pick, though. The bureacracy in Costa Rica is epic. Comical, if you have a sense of humour and all the time in the world. Not so funny if you really need something done today or even this week.
Hi thank you for sharing that information. The best is to avoid traveling during the peak hours which is 7 to 10 AM and then in the afternoon after 4 PM since that is when many commuters travel from San Jose and Cartago to work and back.
Great video Roger, and I have send away for the documents for my citizenship application and once the paper work is all here and ready I will email you.
I in fact paid double the amount on monthly health insurance in the public system in Europe than I pay on treatments in a year in Costa Rica and service is waaaay better.
well, he has the money to buy properties in Costa Ria, a very expensive country, the 3rd most expensive country in LATM. If you have money, everything is beutifull in Costa Rica.
Costa Rica is not a cheap retirement destination and as John pointed out it really depends on which part of the country you are living in. Properties in the Central Valley tend to be less expensive than in the coastal areas and the same applies for rentals. Thank you for watching and commenting.
Saw this video while working on itinerary for trip to Costa Rica. I was intrigued and had the flexibility to add a couple of days at John’s Airbnb to the trip. What a great decision that was. John’s place is a work of art and the room is 5 star. Two bedrooms and a kitchenette. It overlooks the brook and gardens. The grounds are 3 1/2 acres of magic. I think it is impossible to capture it in photos. But if you want a get away to relax and decompress I cannot recommend enough. John invited us into his home and shared all kinds of insights about the culture of Costa Rica and how to travel symbiotically with the country. He elaborated on what it is like living in Costa Rica . He shared many stories about his trials and tribulations experiences while creating this special get-away. It was much like a continuation of the video except in person. Check out the link in the video description to learn more about this special Airbnb
Thank you for opening up this sensitive subject for conversation. I hope the day never comes when Costa Rica wants to build a wall. But I wouldn't balame them if they did. Indeed there is no quick fix or solution to how people move across the land and how they impact it. We should all tread lightly and respectfully. Native and local people EVERYWHERE have these same mixed feelings. It seems like the excessive first class American, German and Canadian Gringos are dominating and throwing money at the booming Eco-Tourism industry. So their intention is an attept to allign with the Pura Vida vibe. Sorry again for our little barking dog 😅
Hi. Thank you for watching the video and commenting. Yes, you are correct in your observation about the movement of people across different countries and their impact. As long as the local population sees it as a benefit then there is harmony and when they don't then bitterness sinks in. It generally happens when they don't see the financial benefit of the influx.
0:20 31 miles? Later on - 4000 ft, temps in the 60's to mid 70''s. Why do you USAmericans have such a difficult time with metric? It's a metric country. Adapt. Just use it, don't convert to what you know best. I know USAmericans down here for 20 years, that still use Fahrenheit for temperature, and can't grasp Celsius at all. It's sad.
John is a great example of what life should be like.

In the Philippines for a zirconium 4 tooth bridge it’s about 1,500. US should have moved to Costa Rica.
You don't know what you're missing!
If you live like a Tico, you can live as well as or better for the same money compare to the Philippines.
