there was not a way to do that without provoking something. If linus was white, stealing tampons he would be called cis White male, if he was black, he would have been criticized for "wow making the black guy steal something" if he was trans, he would have been somehow judged, most likely for clickbaiting or apropriating/defaming trans.

Louis has great content. Very educational, and I agree with many of his viewpoints. But he self-admittedly can be an asshole. And not just a little bit. Self-righteous internet idiots absorb that kind of stuff, even in small amounts, and find a way to make it all about them. And now it's personal. And now they think they need to send words to try and scare someone into not offending them, or harass someone, because they need that illusion that they are getting revenge, or somehow doing justice. All in order to make themselves feel better about the fact that they can't develop their own opinion, and have to rely on the masses to do it for them.

I want to emphasize the last point you made. I agree with everything you said, but there's a huge difference of attacking and educating.
If someone makes a mistake somewhere, by all means, point it out, RESPECTFULLY. Never attribute malice to what is probably ignorance. I've had great success in being respectful and educational when I point stuff out on the Internet. If someone is wrong, and you start attacking the person because of it, the only thing that will happen is that the person you're responding to will get defensive, and possibly respond in the same tone. Neither of you will learn anything, you'll not get your point across, they will think you're an idiot and everyone will be worse off.
I just felt like most of the video came out as "if someone made a mistake, don't call them out on it". It's not what you advocated, I know, but the general tone sort of implied it until I got to the last minute or so. I would have liked a bigger focus on what to do instead of being an asshole, rather than just the "don't do this" which the majority of the video was.

The DailyFail (DailyMail), here in the UK, also didn't report this correctly which probably explains the mentality of the individuals who attacked him on the Amazon Go thing. As far as I'm concerned, he didn't steal it. He just authorised a refund for the item AFTER he walked out the store, and AFTER he was charged for it! The issue is there was no way to return the item (which he explained!). The Amazon Go store has been specifically designed to make it almost impossible for any items to be stolen, so if you do manage that, that's on Amazon's head, not yours. They are taking the risk. They believe and trust in this technology so well, that they do not see it as an issue (which he also explained!).
The morons attacking him need to grow a brain. This isn't about the tampons, but they make it so. He should have stayed clear of feminine sanitary products for his example - that is how the world seems to be these days, and I personally have very little time, and tolerance, for people like this, that get so easily offended, about total ... utter ... shite.

    • @ArtisChronicles
      @ArtisChronicles 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

I haven't watch Linus's video yet -- will soon, maybe some of the hate is a bit deserved for clickbate title and thumbnail? Pretty sure very few of those who are directing hate at him actually watched the video, or know anything about Linus -- that he is in fact married and has (2?) kids...but I think we can all agree that twitter is where humanity goes to die. I have a son and a daughter -- when we had our daughter, the nurse at the hospital took us both aside and showed how to properly clean a girl's parts -- yet, my wife probably knew, but I certainly didn't -- I don't have those parts, and never participated in any girls bathroom rituals -- not sure -- I guess it's not exactly a sexy thing to get your man involved in...my daughter is daddy's little girl, but rest assured when in 8-10 years when she does get her period, I'm sure I'll know less about it than my wife. I give our daughter baths, and get her dressed in the morning -- she is 4, hope not to get attacked by some weirdo perverts, and I put both of our kids to bed -- as a way to have some time with them after work, and give my wife a break as she is a stay at home mom. I also had to teach my wife proper cleaning of our son's private area -- somehow none of her past boyfriend's nor me for that matter felt the need to educate her on proper male hygiene. So schools are supposed to educate our kids on gender specific hygiene products/practices -- goodness....I give up.

I always giggled when these people pop their heads up and call me a virgin. It happens a lot on the net. I'm fairly sure Linus did as well. The stupidity and ideological cult narrative drips off them like a bible thumper on a street corner in the Texas midsummer heat. And I find them the biggest joke on themselves. Ideologies religions and cults always make you talk like and idiot.

+tenshi7angel when parents and teacher's at my daughter's nursery school find out that I do her hair in the morning, they're shocked -- she has the best hair styles, how can a hetero father possibly do girl's hair? I'm not sure how to deal with bath situation, if I tell her, don't tell your teachers daddy gives you baths -- it sounds weird, or tell your teachers daddy gives you baths sounds weird. She was going to tell her teachers that daddy was blow-drying her hair, she got a huge kick out of it, the first time I got the blow dryer out because I didn't want her going to bed with a wet head of hair....my political views are liberal/progressive, but often times the 0-60 of the left self-righteousness makes me wonder what the hell is going on.

Yeah, his video is just a review of the Seattle Amazon Store. You saw right. And I do agree with you: in Québec, Canada, sex ed classes are restarting because the rate of young people infected with sexually transmissible diseases is going up. As much as some things seem taboo, it is very important to educate people about them. And btw this has nothing to do with Linus' video (which the title could've been "I stole orange juice from the Amazon Store!", would've been less controversial)

This is one point I couldn't agree more. Coincidentally, just listened to this today and before that I had such an encounter, I wonder what are the odds.
One thing I notice is that those who are genuinely like that, it is sadly a psychological overreaction with zero moderation (sadly, a quite human/normal reaction, it just manifests in many different ways, same issue though). They're trying to feel better by kicking someone down (i.e. they're not telling someone else they're bad, they're reinforcing to their subconscious that they're good). Specially if said someone can be placed into a convenient category such as an "oppressor" - then, to their eyes, their behavior _is_ different and justified, because they just subconsciously (i.e. the conscious has the benefit of ignorance) dehumanized the individual in question, because it is different to treat a now non-human being non-humanly. Ironic, really, that they complain about themselves or other groups being treated inhumanly but they cannot police themselves to not dehumanize others without realizing (or being able to accept) that they do such. That is when you get shit like a wealthy black boy who lives a luxurious life telling you that a homeless white man will always be less oppressed than he is, and the people who buy that crap. /rant

Excellent breakdown a whole lot of truth in this people adopt group dynamics which are essentially small cults. A large reason is that they simply want to fit in and just agree. While I'm not giving you a ticket to be disagreeable about everything just to be a knob, I have to agree it is true everything you said here is with pinpoint accuracy! Solution is self-aware listen to the voice of reason the voice of reason is beyond your self-critical voice of fear and worry the constant state you remain in while in the hive mentality. There will be things you just do NOT agree with at your core but you continue down the path you even become what you are not just to identify as one of the hives. All the while it is keeping you from being you which is what is truly great your difference or indifference is what makes you. You must understand this while difficult it does not mean that we cannot work together still and have good relationships it simply means that we can be honest and not agree and be adults. Part of the problem is I find we as people often spend 90% of our energy on the 10% of things we do not agree on while you could have used all of that energy to get something accomplished instead and maybe in the process come up with a mutual solution often we would rather waste time trying to prove ourselves as correct. Who are we really proving ourselves to? It may seem lonely at times not to be a part of "The group mentality" but the truth is you never were there is always usually a focal point that builds their status and then uses that to exercise control. The truth is you are a free person free to feel free to interpret and free to think how you wish.
A shout out to Linus who has come a long way from basic stuff too much more interesting tech tips. Just remember you have a choice as well being free of mind you can choose to be happy no matter the circumstance. I am sure you are already aware of this by Louis's explanation of your meet up. But just a reminder keep being you as Louis describes you seem to be down to earth genuine. Many people will envy this trait and try to change that stay true to what you are the fact is people wish they would have your success your resolve and so on. There is nothing more powerful than someone who is self-aware from that point of awareness you will understand who you are where you want to go in life and just do it. This is really the roadmap for success in anything it doesn't mean you need be self-centered or overly critical either just aware of who you are and realize that what you are is what you are what people think you are cannot be changed either don't get caught in that hampster wheel of proof to the world as it is a self-destructive path ripe with identity crisis. Accept who you are and accept what others think you are there are a trillion different ways of looking at something it doesn't mean one is wrong or one is right just be happy to be you.
This is, in a nutshell, being the best version of yourself you cannot be the best version of yourself without first knowing yourself and second being yourself and last accepting whatever that is. Critical thinking will come natural you will find your own faults and the static of what others want you to be will subside.

I don't always say things in the most nuanced way and I can rub people the wrong way.
A part of it is 325,000 subscribers. Let's say 0.001% of the population are seriously deranged, have unresolved anger issues, are stalkers/serial killers etc. If you have 30-50 coworkers/friends, that comes out to 0. With 325,000 subscribers, that means that 325 people who watch are seriously deranged... that's a lot of people. But it "feels like" everyone if you aren't experienced, because you have no way of "feeling" or knowing that the other 324675 that aren't nuts are there.

Saying things in a nuanced way doesnt help if they don't like what you are saying. even less if they want to get offended. you have a opinion. so some people have another one and cant deal with the fact that someone thinks something different. they are unable to see your point of view. some idiot will always get angry, doesn't matter what you say. even if you don't say anything, someone will tell you that it was your job to say something.

Good video. You cannot win against toxic groups.
I was once in a conversation about sexual harassment at gaming conventions and made the "offensive" statement that victims should try their best to muster the courage to report it. Otherwise, nothing is going to change if people don't know about it. The group barraged me with insults, calling me an insensitive jerk because they assumed I'm a white man that had never been a victim and could never understand. And that I should just know my place and do nothing but pity victims and hate my fellow man.
I then informed them that I was a victim of sexual harassment and bullying throughout my childhood in schools that tolerated it, and neither the school nor the police took any action when a bully attacked me with a weapon. I thought revealing this would prompt the group to lighten up. Instead, they called me a sympathy-mongering jerk and accused me of using my negative life experiences to gain sway in a conversation.

When he was there they only had pads, but he sticked to the term tampons because, well it's a more well defined key word. Cheers from Europe
