  • RIde along with Composite FX Team Pilot Dave Storey during portions of a demonstration flight at Oshkosh AirVenture 2021. I was so busy at Oshkosh between demo flights and working in the Composite FX booth that charging and setting up the video camera’s became a back priority. Fortunately I found some footage in one of my cameras. Just for those that are interested in seeing what it’s like flying at Oshkosh during the experimental helicopter demo period. Thanks for watching!

      Flying RC helicopters is where I started as well. If you notice, a lot of my style of playing around is RC helicopter based whenever I get aggressive. LOL! Thanks for watching!

    Excellent- thank you 👍 Why would anyone think a fixed wing is more fun than a rotor wing.

    Oh, sure, you picked up the cone through the large opening.😎 The ride-along was fun... you make it look too easy.

      LOL! Well I do have a smaller cone that I practice with before I go to an event. After playing with the smaller cone and I admit, sometimes getting frustrated, then the larger standard cones seem more fun!
      Who would have thought that something as fun as playing with safety cones would help with your precision in flying/hovering a helicopter…
      These Mosquito helicopters really are great little helicopter and one of the most fun to fly. Thanks for watching!

    I love your videos! It's hard to tell from your video, but when you're doing the really fast low flying, it looks like you're so close to the ground, as in inches (which I'm sure you're not.) How high off the ground are you doing the low fast stuff?

    • @dstoreyaviation
      @dstoreyaviation  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That’s a good question. I’m usually anywhere between 1’-3’ altitude when I’m at the cone playing or doing something. I’m around 3’-5’ altitude when playing with general hovering maneuvers. When I get moving fast near the ground during demonstration flights like this, I’m at least 5’-10’ so I have enough altitude to flair for a quick stop if something should happen like an engine out or something.
      The camera is on a wide angle view setting so it’s a little skewed on depth perception.
      Thanks for watching!

    Jealous, what a neat experience. Are you allowed to fly at night with experimentals?

    • @dstoreyaviation
      @dstoreyaviation  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, one of my highlights in aviation life to fly demonstration flights at Oshkosh.
      Night flight? Yes if the aircraft is outfitted with the requirements for night flight from the FAA. My XET is registered for VFR Day/Night operations. It usually spelled out in the Airworthiness Certificate.

  • @ironyim92
    @ironyim92 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hey Dave, have you ever flown the XET through rain?

    • @dstoreyaviation
      @dstoreyaviation  ปีที่แล้ว

      I have only flown in mist or very light rain. Most experimental helicopter kits are not designed for all weather flight, mainly just for VFR.

    • @dstoreyaviation
      @dstoreyaviation  ปีที่แล้ว

      One part at a time…
      Only takes approximately 450 man hours to build which is not much for any helicopter. It’s actually a great kit to build and fly.
