Hi Jordan. No not prehistoric at the time. We just lost reporter Judy Womack in late February. We stayed friends over the years. Saludos from my new retirement home in Barcelona.
@@earthweek I almost mentioned that when I wrote. I remember you as friends. I was friends for years (after I moved to NYC and CBS-TV) with Chris Murphy but lost touch. So great to be in Barcelona. Been considering Portugal myself. Thanks for responding.
They've been NC9 since '93. I liked their Eyewitness news set, which was a table. The newsroom was the backdrop, with a detailed wall. I like their current set just as much. This is a dedicated set, and therefor much more flexible (it even has a kitchen!)
Now Channel 9 has WSTMs old calls, WSYR. Their newscasts were known as Eyewitness News for years after this clip aired, but it has been known as NewsChannel 9 since about the early 90s.
It's interesting to see the similarities in stations owned by the same group. A video from WCMH-TV from about the same time uses the same font and a similar news desk. Both stations were owned by Outlet. Check out the video at youtube /watch?v=YtZVmDQni1k
Thx for posting. Really fun!
I worked there as an account executive in sales. Remember when Solon came aboard as anchor.. Lower level of Shopping town mall.
To think this is when Channel 9 was in Shoppingtown Mall in DeWitt. They moved about 13-15 years later.
I toured the Channel 9 studios when they were at Shoppingtown Mall. It was a class trip and all of up were on OPEN LINE with Karen Franklin.
And I worked with you as cameraman back in those days under the Shoppingtown mall. It didn't seem so prehistoric at the time.

Solon is now retired with his lovely wife Fran in Coral Gables, Florida.
My sister was Solon Gray's babysitter in Syracuse!
Stay classy, Syracuse
He was at KIRO until 1982 when he jumped to the short-lived Satellite News Channel. After that he was at WCIX in Miami.
Love the magnetic numbers...
Steve Newman also worked at WLS-TV ABC 7 Chicago as the weekend meteorologist for a brief time back in 1973.
No, Steve briefly went back to WXLT in Sarasota to lick his wounds from a failed attempt at the 3rd largest TV market.
Must've been after Mr. Gray's stint co-anchoring with Doug Ramsey at WPIX in New York (which he did from 1971-c.'73)

He was at WXYZ in Detroit after his stint in Sacramento.
this has to be the worlds most depressing news intro...suprisingly

Funny how Sicily isn't even on the map.
The weatherman reminds me of Fred Willard for some reason.
What happened to Solon?
