Hi Toby!...I have the Exact Same plant which I have had for many years now...and actually today I just did exactly what you did with my plant...the soil was really bad and the canes were way too long to stand up anymore....I took the plant out and got most of the old soil from the roots and put fresh new soil in the pot and put the plant back in...then I cut the long canes quite low...I have many leaves that I will use to make new plants and I will add some of the leaves to the big pot to fill it more as you said...my poor plant was struggling but I know it will be very good now...and I will give some of the new plants from cuttings to my friends when they start growing...I love the flowers of these plants cannot wait to have more of them again...This is a great video to show how to prune this particular plant. So happy you made this video : )

Do not let any sunlight shine on it. If you put it in a place that has shade all day long the leaves will turn nice dark green and it will flower.

Yes, I do keep this plant in a shaded area, and it grows quite nicely, it flowers for me every season.

I love your videos! Please tell me, how are you able to get it to grow buds so quickly? I've had mine for 5 years now and I've never had a bud :( A few months ago I cut the whole plant all the way back so I'm hoping this year to finally have a bud!

Let your plant grow out and see what happens. Are you watering the plant properly? I usually water around twice a week during summer and only around once a month in winter so that the plant has time to rest. How did you get this plant? Was it from a cutting?

@@TobyJin Thanks for your response! I was given 3 leaves which I planted directly in soil. It grows well, but has never bloomed. I water as you do, and in the summer I keep it outside in a mostly shady spot underneath some trees. I bring it inside when the temperature falls below 50F/10C. I just found your channel but I’ll keep watching. Perhaps I will discover something I didn’t know before and will get a bloom!

@@christinecharaudeau8592 It doesn't look like you're doing anything wrong, try and not water it as much in winter and give it a good winters rest. There could also be the chance that the cuttings that were given to you were from a plant that hasn't matured yet.

@@TobyJin Oh! I didn't know about that. Thanks so much! If I get a bloom I'll be sure to let you know :)

@@christinecharaudeau8592 Typically though around 5 years should definitely be enough for a cutting to flower. I have managed to get one of my cuttings to bloom in 2 years after I planted it. If you need more info on growing Epiphyllum from cuttings, you can check out my latest video on this topic.
