    Fastest martial artist I ever saw (Alfie). I once saw him referee freestyle at an open karate tournament day where they were not using mats on a hard sports hall floor (a few people I know pulled out because of that dangerous fact). It was semi-contact but in one bout he refereed one guy caught the other in the head with a full on roundhouse kick. The victim immediately plummeted senseless toward the hard floor at some speed only to have his head caught safely just about three inches above the floor by an incredibly quick and switched on Alfie Lewis putting many top goalkeepers to shame. I was very impressed in several ways by that and it stuck in my mind ever since.

    I sparred with Alfie a few times back in the day, I used to sometimes, very occasionally land a very solid punch, it was like hittng a wall, he used to smile and never hit back !! he was the real thing,

      Absolutely, was on the tournament scene back in those good old days, he was an absolute joy to watch, the complete points fighter. I think he would have made a good full contact fighter as well.

    Super fast Alfie as always, however you don't often see Alfie retreating and a couple of times in that fight he just backed off slightly and circled around and there was a little look of relief it was over at the end. Pele was a big, powerful fighter even for Alfie at his best, but well beaten on points though.

    Don’t think I very saw a man Alfie’s size and build who moved so fast and was so flexible

    Alfie lewis was the real deal and could fight and adapt to any rules should he have chosen

      @@ronpeploe Right... I think I may have been there. It was the first of a new tournament with a £1000 prize. It was a knockout competition with Lewis fighting a few times. He won the competition but I and many others felt that Reid should have won. I remember not being that impressed with the fighting. They did though in between the fights have displays with weapons and acrobatics which was something I had not seen before. Young girls with obvious gymnastic skills demonstrating synchronised fighting which made the event worth while for me.

    If Pele Reid didn't piss about doing pointfighting then maybe he'd have got somewhere in K-1

    • @HAVOCJKD
      @HAVOCJKD 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      K1 wasn't around then, and Pele went on to boxing anyway. Either one of these "point fighters" would starch your scrawny ass in a second. The fact is you sucked at it and are now trying to come up with excuses as to why you suck by blaming the arts and the formats...try a mirror instead. Or try actually getting a clue instead of shitposting on MAP

      HAVOC JKD point fighting provides bad habits. Raymond Daniels got starched in MMA and against Joseph Valltelini and Nieky Holzken too

    • @HAVOCJKD
      @HAVOCJKD 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      You are neither good enough nor experienced enough to say what habits it causes - face it, you are pissy because you sucked at it and kept shitting your pants against opponents. Rather than address your own inability to cope under fire you blamed the system

      HAVOC JKD All of these MAI guys call UFC 'KFC' because they're jealous. I've yet to see it in UFC. If it was so good then why don't the world champion fighters in full contact do pointfighting. Why don't you educate yourself:

    Kickboxing in this particular tournament... probably not the most accurate descriptor.

    Wouldn't stand a chance in today's scene especially full contact. Outdated but a legend of his time.

      Lewis fought some full contact bouts. Reid became a pro boxer.

      Sorry I had an instructer who fought full contact and trained under Alfie. Alfie was a hard person and they fought full contact at times as well as on the street.
