Great video honestly, this is the first video of yours that I've seen and I will definitely check out some of the others (also I've subbed for future videos). I will say that listening to a 41 minute monologue was a little difficult in places, maybe you could add some background music and break up the talking into more distinct sections (hope you don't mind some constructive criticism😅). I'd suggest Sebastian Lague's latest video for an example of a 10/10 longform tutorial vid IMHO...
Hey, thanks for checking out the video. This is my first try at making a longer form video. Definitely learned a lot from doing it and will try to break up future videos with more clear sections. I think taking a breather in the middle and cutting out some of the extra details and spending more time on displaying results would have helped a lot. I’m a fan of Sebastian Lague so I’ll make sure to take some notes from his content next time I make a long form video :)
The struggle to check if my name appears for a single frame in the game hehe I did see my comment tho :3 Really love the walkthrough of all this. One of the hardest things for me is designing systems. I can optimize code pretty well, but knowing what structures or design techniques to use, that's difficult
Thanks! I made the list of subscribers and comments last week so if your comment was really recent you might not be in the list :( but I’ll be sure to update the list and use it in future projects!
Congratulations! Having subscribed due to the stairs video too, I have to say thanks for talking about more 'macro' topics of game design. That and congratulations for the 4K subs!
I appreciate you going through the logic of the design and the tradeoffs of approaches. Got a request though, your audio appears to clip at the end of each vocal segment, it is unlikely to cause damage but it also makes a pop sound I hear very clearly with studio monitors. Otherwise the voicework is clean, good distance from mic and clear talking, no pops from that at all.
Thanks for the thoughtful comment! This is my first attempt at making a longer form video and definitely learned a lot. thanks for the advice on the audio editing, I’m still a bit new to this stuff and only know the basics so any feedback is appreciated! I’m using audacity to try and cleanup the audio but I think it would probably work better if I did less noise cancellation and used longer transitions or background music between sections to hide where I start a different section/cut. I think I squished them a bit too close together.
@@NickMaltbie I've used audacity for a long time and it really is made for the basics, but it does those basics well. For a longer form video, that's pretty good pacing and it at least unfolded the idea you started with and didn't just milk it. I usually find that devlogs and the like are geared towards a less technical audience, which is fine, but there's a tendency to leave out the people that want to hear a clear breakdown, the way you would expect some game postmortem to show what they learned. On top of that, there's a lot of devlogs out there that feel kinda like if they discussed the problem with anyone that really gets OOP, async logic, algorithms, etc... that they could have saved a lot of time not trying the wrong approaches first. All that to say, you were interesting and technical and your response to my polite plea has a lot to do with me going ahead and subscribing (as opposed to just waiting for the 'aLgoRIthM' to tell me whenever you put out something else popular on the platform)
Oh, and note that noise cancellation is basically stripping spectral content (frequency regions) for whatever you tell it represents noise. And that usually has a window, for its responsiveness when non-noise signal starts and ends. Big thing is be careful to cleanly fade in and out on any sample of audio, effectively that is a brick wall for all frequencies present to suddenly stop.
@@Cerafem Interesting note about the noise cancellation, I'll be sure to keep that fading in and out in mind, I think I can just fade the audio clip smoothly between clips or join them together in the audio editor. I'll keep these notes in mind when working on the next video. I make these videos just as a hobby, I like working with and exploring unity, 3d modeling, and coding in my free time for non-work related projects! I started making these videos as a way to show what I learned to my friends who are also interested in these technical topics. I find the dev log style of discussing what went wrong and how they addressed it to be interesting, but also generally can't cover a topic in as much detail since they have to build up from a starting point. I've been trying to make more of these explainer videos where I just go through the final project in a logical order and not discuss all the mistakes along the way as it can get confusion. The only reason this video was so long becuase I kind of rushed it trying to get it done before 1K subscribers, but I missed that by a lot. Thanks for subscribing to the channel, I always love talking about these unity and technical topics. I try to watch the comments sections as long as I'm not overwhelmed. I also have all my projects open sourced on GitHub if you're interested in seeing how they work. I always watch the issues section so if you have any questions about the project or suggestions feel free to create an issue :)
Hehe, was scary to see one big zombie towering over the rest in a crowd. I'll make sure to include comments and subscribers in my next project as well!

Congrats! I haven't checked out the channel in a while and I was blown away to see how much the stairs video blew up! Awesome stuff!
Congratulations!

Keep doing good work and I'm sure you"ll reach tens of thousands of subs son. Your videos are great.
This was great, can't wait for more videos super interesting.
I’m working on more videos now, thank you!

* clip as in a sudden clipped edge, where audio goes suddenly to zero without transition.

Noble effort with chatGPT! Maybe GPT5 will get the coding right!
Chat GPT was only a couple of flags off :)
I was wondering why the zombies were like 9 feet tall 😂
